This myth starts in Iolcus when Pelias usurped Aeson’s throne. Jason’s mother, feeling the threat, sent his son, Jason, to Centaur Cheiron. Meanwhile, Pelias was feared that someone would steal his power, just like he did. When Pelias could no longer contain his fear, he went to an oracle in Delphi. Oracle asked him to fear a man with one sandal.
20 years later, Hera, queen of the gods and goddesses, decided to revenge Pelias by returning Jason in his rightful spot. When Jason was walking towards Iolcus, across the river, Jason witnessed an old lady who was trying to cross the river. Being a philanthropist, Jason carried the elderly lady across the river. With Athena’s help, Argos made the biggest and strongest ships in Greece. Also, Zeus, the king of Gods, gave Jason a gift, Dodana. Dodana made imaginary lines which helped Jason to navigate.
After Argos was finished, Jason selected fifty strong men to follow his journey. His fifty men were the finest, strongest, and smartest of all men in Greece. They were known as the Argonauts.
With enthusiasm and excitement, the Argonauts arrived their first destination in the island of Lemnos. In this island, there were women who refused to worship Aphrodite, the god of beauty. Because of their willful refusal, Aphrodite cursed them with body odor and ugliness. When their husbands couldn’t bear their smell anyway, they threw them on the island of Lemnos. In Doliones, King Cyzicus welcomed them warmly and gave them food and drinks. One night, Geneness, a monster with six arms attacked the Argonauts. When Hercules, one of the members of the Argonauts saw Geneness, he quickly gathered his members and fought the monster and went back to sea. After Argonauts left Doliones, Argonauts became lost and returned to the same island. This time, however, King Cyzicus couldn’t tell that they were the Argonauts, so King Cyzicus and his soldiers attacked the Argonauts.
