The plot of a story are the action elements that make up an arrangement of events that make up a story. The plot is the foundation that the characters and main idea of the story is structured around. There were many plots that gave this story the twist, turns, and it’s every uncomfortable moments such as servicing tea to your current husband the way your ex husband would like it. and Mrs. Waythron were sitting at the dinner table discussing their day. The narrator tells us that the newlyweds had to cut their honeymoon short because of Lily, Alice's daughter from a previous marriage, whom is very ill. Alice Waythorn who has been divorced two times is discussing with her new husband Mr. Waythorn that her first husband Mr. Haskett wants to come visit Lily. Mr. Waythorn who works on Wall Street, feels as though Mr. Haskett should see Lily but at this house especially when he's not present. This later becomes a problem in the story. Another important plot in the story was, Waythron's first day back to work after his honeymoon he happens to run into Varick, who Alice's second husband. Varick and Mr. Waythorn have no issues between them. Varick begins to explain to Waythorn a situationwith his business partner Mr. Sellers who is sick with gout. Varick offers to work with Waythrons until Sellers come back from being off work. Varick and Waythorn work together, which isn't quite awkward but sort of weird seeing that they both shared a common interest which was Alice. Varick lets Waythron in on a secret about some extra money coming into there job, but since Varick has a history of dishonesty so Mr. Waythron doesn't trust him too
