The Patriot The Patriot takes place in South Carolina, 1776. A man by the name of Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) regrets his past experience in the French-Indian war, even though he was a war hero. When the revolutionary war against the British starts, he wanted nothing to do with it, avoiding the memories of his dark past. Fathering seven children, his oldest son decides to join the colonial army despite his father's wishes. When the oldest son, Gabriel, gets captured by the British, his father had no choice but to get him out. In the process of that, his second oldest son was shot by a British General. This event reignited his revenge-like attitude, starting up his hatred for the "red-coats". Benjamin ends up starting a militia group with …show more content…
This battle took place in South Carolina on August 16th, 1780. This battle in the movie is from the perspective of Gabrielle, Benjamin's son. Just before the scene, Gabrielle speaks of how he wishes to join the war again after being injured. There are factual inaccuracies and accuracies of this scene. But overall, I did find this scene to be accurate. The result in the movie is that the British simply trounced the continental army in this battle. The Americans were defeated easily in this scene. Horatio Gates, the Continental Army General during the battle, was forced to retreat. This was depicted clearly in the movie. A primary source explains the defeat that took place that day: a letter from Francis Marion to Peter Horry on August 27th, 1780. The letter …show more content…
The main character, Benjamin Martin, is openly based on the well-known militiaman Francis Marion (a.k.a. Swamp Fox). Considering that, Benjamin Martin is not all that historically accurate compared to Francis Marion. They do accurate depictions of him such as the fact he fought in the Indian war as well as him being a militiaman. But they have some important differences that should be discussed. In the movie, Benjamin Marion is presented as a nice slave owner who is more of a family man, wanting nothing to do with the war but ends up in it anyway. In real life, Francis Marion was someone who dedicated his life to militias and war. He also was a ruthless killer to Cherokee Indians. Francis Marion is still considered an important, good role in the revolutionary war, but he's just not exactly what the movie made him out to be. In a source from a document written by Henry Clinton last edited in 1954, Henry Clinton briefly explains the role Francis Marion played in the war. Explaining how Marion and his militia single handedly would take out groups of British travelers. As I already stated; Francis Marion was depicted slightly differently from what historical trueness would

The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate Analysis

...Did you know that The Patriot movie is not really historically accurate. In fact The Patriot movie did not even have accurate characters. The movie has historical facts and events that has happened in the Revolutionary War, but it is only somewhat accurate. I say this because Benjamin Martin was not an actual a person in history. Benjamin Martin is a character who was supposed to represent Francis Marion. In the movie the Battle of Cowpens did not result in Colonel Tavingtons death. Lastly General Cornwallis had surrendered in the movie like historical facts. First, Benjamin Martin was not a historical character. Benjamin Martin is a colonist in the movie who was going against the taxes like everyone else. But at this time his son was going into the war with the Patriots. But soon as they got back from a battle, there were plenty of injured soldiers and Benjamin allowed them to stay at his home. But Tavington came with a British fleet and said his son was caught spying and they were...

Riding Alone Is Riding with Bin Laden by Bill Maher

...Bill Maher’s book, “When you ride alone you ride with Bin Laden”, is written to inform American citizens of the things they can do to help win the war on terrorism. In this book Maher criticizes our government for their failure to do so. Maher questions why we are not using methods that have been used in past wars to enlighten our citizenry. Things like posters to conserve our natural resources, providing the media with information for Americans to rally around, turning off lights that are not being used and the need for car-pooling or creating a more energy efficient form of public transportation. Some where I read that it takes eleven gallons of oil to burn a 75 watt light bulb for a year, now that is food for thought! Maher thinks the token support that Americans are engaged in is of little value; displaying flags, wearing support badges and hats, and the “shop until you drop” theme have little value. Maybe we should be doing more, but this is a totally new kind of war, not one where we are fighting another nation, but an ideology, that is supported by radical Islamists. What should our posters say “ Don’t Trust Muslims?”. Should our media televise pictures of Muslims in their Mosques preaching “kill all infidels”? I concur with Maher that we are not doing enough and that our government could do much more, but we must acknowledge the good with the bad or we are just arm chair quarterbacks that want to point fingers. Give our government credit that we haven’t had...

Every day, she wears high-heels to work, and even runs a fashion chain under her name. For many, she was the influential icon of American culture in the late 20th century. Until now, I dare say that her image is still very potent worldwide. Who is she? Never before has she ever starred in a Hollywood movie or performed at a famous fashion show. Surprisingly, she never exists in real life and she is literally a toy. Yes, it can hardly be any other toy but Barbie. Nowadays, girls can be seen wearing Barbie clothing, using Barbie perfume, carrying Barbie backpacks, and sleeping in Barbie pajamas, not to mention cosmetics, sneakers etc. (Morgenson 1991, 66). Mattel, Inc., the mother company of Barbie, should feel proud of her. Because on average, an American girl has ten Barbie dolls, a British or Italian girl may own seven, while five is the number of Barbie that a German or French girl has. A distinction has to be made between true leaders and quack leaders. True leaders know that they are born for a purpose. Society is their laboratory. During this time, attendance averaged around 7,000 fans per game and provided an economical and fun night out for adults and kids alike. After a brief hiatus of two years, San Jose moved their affiliate to the city however the results were not like past years. As ticket prices rose and the product on the ice declined with several non-playoff seasons, attendance averages dropped to just over 4,000 (figure 1) and the cost of sending players across the country weighed heavily on the parent club. Although there have been bumps and struggles, Worcester remains a strong market for a professional hockey team, especially one with ties to a local NHL club such as the Boston Bruins. There are five stages of conversation process Opening Feedback Feed forward Opening Closing 3. The opening. The first step is to open the conversation, usually with some kind of greeting. Greetings can be verbal or nonverbal and are usually both. Verbal greetings include, for example, verbal salutes ("Hi," "Hello"), initiation of the topic (The reason I called ") making reference to the other ("Hey, Joe, what's up?"), and personal inquiries ("What’s new?" " How are you doing?") Openings are also generally consistent in tone with the main part of the conversation, a cheery "How ya doing today, big guy?" is not normally followed by news of a family death. In opening a conversation, consider two general guidelines. Fist, be positive. Lead off with something positive rather than something negative. Postmodernism in Arrested Development

...An exploration of postmodernism through textual analysis of Arrested Development. This essay will consider the postmodernism within the television programme Arrested Development through postmodern theories, postmodernist techiniques and textual analysis. Through historical context, genre conventions, intertextuality and continuity; the essay will investigate the use of pastiche in modern satire. As popular situation comedies fulfil the generic conventions of using multiple cameras, linear narratives, stand alone catchphrases and aspirational ideologies, the essay will deliberate whether post modernism is legitimate in television comedy. "As Hollywood agents worry about the demise of the town's lowing cash cow, the multi-camera, staged sitcom, here to save the day is Arrested Development, a farce of such blazing wit and originality, that it must surely usher in a new era in comedy." —Alison Powell, The Guardian (UK), March 12, 2005 Television situation comedy has always appealed to mass market audiences. From ‘The Brady Bunch’(1969 – 1974), which centred on a blended family, perhaps the best-known domestic comedy in US television history to ‘Cheers’(1982 – 1993), the show set in a bar in Boston. Sitcoms usually consist of recurring characters in a common environment such as a home or workplace. Sitcoms provide the audience with iconic moments in television history. The longitivity of this genre of programming allows the audiences to build up relationships with the characters...

It would be fair to say this. Her behavior, her writing, her court testimony, has left a significant number of people with the impression that she is a man hater.
