Cyrano de Bergerac thought of himself as an other, but people around him did not. His self consciousness makes him an other. For example, Cyrano says, “My friend, I have my bitter days, knowing myself so ugly, so alone” (Pg. 42). In this quote, Cyrano thinks he’s not good enough for Roxanne because of his big nose. Cyrano’s worrying about what he looks like and he’s making himself an outsider by doing this. Before, Le Bret said, “If you lover her, tell her so! You have covered yourself with glory in her eyes this day” (Page 41). Le Bret’s trying to tell Cyrano that he should talk to Roxanne and he’s got nothing to worry about.
