This is the question that lies at the core of Drew Magary’s novel, The Postmortal. The novel is told through a series of electronic diary entries written by a man named John Farrell. The Postmortal chronicles the near-future where a cure for aging has been discovered and humanity has taken its first tentative steps toward immortality.
Living forever is a great but is it really. The antidote for aging that sparks the world of The Postmortal assurances that they will under no circumstances get any older. Thus, causing them to not feel older, or look any older, and they will not die of natural causes. This may seem like a good thing in conception, but it’s not as pleasing as you might believe. The Postmortal talks about the consequences of eternal life. One of the characters states that retirement is not a choice. The young woman in the story realizes that she is going to always get her period. For example, the doctor that gave John Farrell the cure states, not being able to die a natural death only ensures some other form. These other forms are way such as, starvation, disease, perhaps a knife to the heart in some dark alley.
