Three Individuals Who Had a Significant Impact on U.S. History

...Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. The reason for my decision on these three individuals is because they all played crucial roles in the formation of our great country and without their key insight and the driving force that they brought it could have turned out much differently. Each holds a very important place during this time in history which will be more fully understood and unveiled in the coming pages. To better understand these roles, and these men as a whole I believe it best to look at each individually to see what brought them to be such important figures in history and how it was that their fates intertwined. John Adams was born on October 30, 1735 in the Massachusetts Bay Colony of Braintree which is now known as Quincy (Bio, 2013). John was a direct descendent of Puritan colonists whose father was John Adams Sr. His father wore many hats which included being a farmer, a Congregationalist deacon, and a town councilman. Malunggay

...climate change, a new discovery by a Filipino biotechnology company based in the U.S. has tapped a wonder plant in the country as a source of biofuel. Malunggay, scientifically known as Moringa Oleifera, which is widely grown in the Philippines and is considered one the world's most useful plants, is found as a good source of Moringa oil. This oil is believed to be a biofuel source. SECURA International announced that malunggay oil is being tapped by the North American Biofuels Inc. (NABI) since January as possible raw material for biodiesel production. As a result, the former is currently growing malunggay in 500,000-hectare farmland to meet the demands of NABI.Since malunggay can easily be grown in the country, SECURA International president Danny Manayaga encouraged the Filipino farmers to take advantage of the situation in meeting the demands of the world for the Moringa oil supply to be used as biodiesel. Manayaga said this business is sustainable since the market is very accessible. Currently, there are 165 marketing companies in the U.S. for biodiesel using soybean oil as raw material. It is expected that in the next 50 years, Japan and Korea will be the biggest markets of Moringa oil for their automobiles that will use biodiesel. Earlier, the Philippine government is endorsing jatropha as a source of biofuel. However, Manayaga said Moringa oil is more useful that jatropha. What makes malunggay better than the jatropha is that malunggay is 100 percent usable;...

An Analysis of Brazil

...boasted a positive trade balance of $20 billion, nothing to scoff at in today's economy. Agriculture has boosted some of Brazil's economy, although the total agriculture exportation is not very high at 6% of the total GDP, the expansion of their agricultural boom has negated the need for vast imports of most of their agricultural needs. This has showed a significant reduction in their total imports of food, from 22% in 1970 to a paltry 8% today. Brazil began blazing a trail of economic prosperity way back in 1985, when the country was delivered from a dictatorship governed by the military, to a democracy. The past 15 years Brazil has been consistently electing presidents into office that cared deeply about moving their country ahead and brand it as a serious contender in the world economy. The most current president, Dilma Vana Rousseff a female, made a landslide election with over 60% of the popular vote. She is a staunch supporter of a world economy, and is a powerful leader for Brazil. What I found to be interesting was the serious decline in unemployment over the last four years. In 2007 unemployment was at a relatively high number and posted rate of 9.2%. In 2010 the rate made a giant decline to an almost even 7%. While the United States and the rest of the world is trying to keep their heads above water, Brazil looks to be weathering the storm quite nicely. The biggest and most...

From Manifest Destiny: Thomas Jefferson's Journey To The West

...America was new, ambitious and democratic, when President Thomas Jefferson was elected. He had long envisioned America as “Empire of Liberty.” His vision was fueled by the idea of Manifest Destiny as it spread like fire throughout the country. With Manifest Destiny came the unquenchable hunger and need for more land. In addition, Thomas Jefferson believed the “Empire of Liberty” would only be achievable through the control of the Mississippi River. With John O'Sullivan's “Manifest Destiny,” America began its journey towards the west. ("A Bio. of America: Westward Expansion ") Thomas Jefferson took the first step towards the west, when he bought Louisiana from Napoleon for only $15 million. However, even with the purchase of Louisiana, Americans remained near the coast, with nearly no settlement to west of Appalachian Mountains. Louisiana was an unknown territory with, therefore Jefferson arranged the Lewis and Clark expedition. The goal of the expedition was to discover the land west of Appalachian Mountain, which they did. Louis and Clark were able to collect several specimen of animals and plants and make scientific observations....
