In my opinion on the internet has good and bad things to it. We just need to see how we use it and what we do with it. If I were to chose a side I would most definitely say it's not a good thing for us. ¨Many spend hours online, e-mailing, instant messaging, downloading music, and updating Facebook pages, with some visiting game sites, and shopping, online. All of this access can be dangerous; those who abuse the internet can become trapped in a cyber riptide of sorts, pulled in further and further as their time online increases, their school performance declines, and their family and peer relationships begin to suffer” (Source 1). I admit I can spend a lot of my time on the internet and social media but a large amount of the time I spend hours doing my homework. But most of us get way to into the internet that it starts affecting us. There are many teens that do get bullied on social media. The pressure isn't all on the teen it mostly has a lot to do with their parents and how they let their kids …show more content…
A particularly thorny issue is how best to get involved when kids use digital devices and social networking sites to torment their peers” (Source 3). Not only do kids and teens use the internet in a bad way. What they post and what they do can get them into extremely big problems. That's when the bullying comes in and when they start going through it they regret what they do or post and once something's posted online even after you delete it someone else could still have a picture or something related to what you've posted meaning there's no going back. Also not only will it happen online but also with their peers at school. Which will make the victim's life difficult. It can put them into a depression and make them feel worthless or like they don't belong where they are and it can make them overthink beyond a point, risking them to take their own

Pros And Cons Of The Internet

...recognised to entail three primary norms: a. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must operate in a transparent manner; b. ISPs cannot block access to any content; c. ISPs cannot discriminate against any internet traffic in any manner. Critics fear that powerful service providers could choose to control Internet traffic by funnelling data into fast and slow lanes; this thereby would allow the richest companies to pay extra fees to ensure that their online content is accessible through the fast lanes, creating an additional barrier of entry for new online start-ups who could not afford access to such fast lanes. One of the alleged drawbacks of the...

Pros and Cons of Internet and Social Media

...Today, the internet and social media are important in society, reflect the need for the human expression and recognition; these tools have become a key factor in the process of socialization. People need to be updated and present socially, and in the social media people share common interests such as music, reviews and personal preferences. The Internet has become an indispensable tool for me in my professional, social and personal live but the use of new media such as social networking has some pros and cons: Pros Through the internet and social media, we can have access to information in a matter of seconds. Thanks to the search engines, social networks, video conferencing, chats or specialized portals we can access discussions, reviews, opinions, photos and videos of other people and have asynchronous communication. The use of the internet and social media eliminate the barriers of time and space; the internet allows us to have better communication with people from all over the world. Cons Private information can be misused to discredit a person, to act for criminal purposes and can also be used for phishing. Although there are many reliable sources such as publications of universities and prestigious portals, also there are websites like blogs and wikis that don't provide correct information. People miss the interaction with their social environment and his family. Social media and the internet are tools that give us many opportunities but......

The Pros And Cons Of Internet Banking

...1. More and more people are seeing internet banking as an easier option, yet safety measures also have to be considered when choosing the best option. If big amounts of money want to be extracted by the client, the client should be required to physically come into the bank to enable the transaction to take place. Banks should also encourage their clients to keep their online banking passwords private and to change it as often as possible. In order to prevent illegal extraction of money and hacking the bank should put firewalls in place on all systems that are accessed through the internet. As hacking and the illegal extraction of money can take place from within the bank, access of the workers to the accounts of clients should be limited. In 2013 over $300 million (R 3792 million) was stolen from 100 banks...

The Pros and Cons of the Use of Internet for Educational Purposes

...The pros and cons of the use of the internet for educational purposes Starting out in 1996 as a research project, Google (a huge searching engine) grew into most users’ favorite site for searching the internet. Last year, Google made 29 billion dollars. That is approximately 929 dollars per second. Google is a good example for the age we are living in: we live in an age where we have access to more information and at a faster rate than any generation before us. There are both positive and negative side effects that come along with the use of internet for educational purposes. Keeping both the positive and the negative side effects in mind can help educators to evaluate whether or not their students should have access to the internet and, of course, to what extent. Due to sites such as Google, students can do research way easier and faster that it has ever been. I myself, for example, had not done any research in books before I started writing my final paper. This can be considered either as a positive side as as a negative side of the use of internet for educational purposes. Students have access to a lot more information by means of the internet than before. But this can be problematic if students are not able to differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources of information. Some sites do provide valuable good resources for students while others have lots of inexactitudes on them. Internet also allows contacting people. Students can now easily have contact with......

Whether it be a recipe for red velvet cupcakes, the likelihood of rain on the weekend or the date the Americans signed the declaration of independence, there is a plethora of information only a mouse click or fingertip away. As technology advances so does our requirement for knowledge and information. We want to know more and we want to know it yesterday. This is where internet search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask Jeeves, Webopedia and Mahalo come into play. These incredible sights help us find the information we want and they do it at lightning fast speed, often returning hundreds if not thousands of results in a matter of seconds. These results can be filtered with a simple quotation mark to help lessen the amount of results that come back and specify search results. Information on any topic you require is right there on the screen of you computer, tablet or smart phone. It is after this super speed search that the problems begin. Yes, it is amazing to have 5,000 results come back for a search on “Conspiracy theories of The Shinning” however within this large amount of search results there will also be a large amount of very useless information that may not even be related to the actual search you were after. ... 1. What are the pros and cons of five sources of job candidates? 1) Hiring or Promoting from Within Pros – One of the biggest pros for this option is cost savings with internal postings and recruitment often costing next to nothing. As well, by looking internally to find someone who has the skills and qualifications to complete the job, you will have a much greater insight into what the person is capable of. Finally, promotion from within helps in the retention and attraction of employees. Cons – The biggest downside to hiring from within is that you will still have a vacant position to fill so you will need to start the entire process over again and now you have two positions to train for. 2) Referrals Pros – It is relatively inexpensive (some companies offer referral bonuses) and will encourage the loyalty of current employees who are making the referrals. Cons – If things do not work out with this referred employee, you could end up with a conflict. What are the potential consequences if I have to let the newly referred employee go? Will I lose the current employee who referred the person for the position? 3) Newspaper Advertising Pros – The biggest advantage to advertising in the newspaper is the wide distribution within your required location. For many newspapers these days, this can include display on the newspaper’s website for additional distribution. Cons – The biggest......

Are You Aware of What Your Child Is Doing Online?

...everything we do day to day in a matter of seconds. We can also post pictures, tell who are with us, and inform people of our location. These are all excellent things if they are used in the positive light of social networking, but how often are they not? Teenagers are now using these sites to harass and bully peers online. They also leave doors open for adult predators and identity theft. There has been research on the effects of social networking in teens that closely link them to low grades, psychological and social problems, and not being as active which leads them to being overweight. Statistics show that about 75% of teenagers have cell phones, which raises the question “Are we aware of what our teens are posting online”? There are many pros to our children using social media but we as parents have a duty to protect them. We must be good role models and be aware of privacy issues and concerns. There are advancement’s in today’s technology that make it easy for our children to network and stay in touch with their peers. Children who are not likely to socialize the traditional way because of shyness and social anxiety can use their PC’s to communicate with others. Children that have disabilities that prevent them from going out are still able to keep in contact with the outside world. Kids join groups with kids that have similar lifestyles and interest. They can converse with others that share the same religious beliefs, culture, hobbies, and many other things that they......

Pros and Cons of Could Based Computing

...Pros and Cons of Cloud Computing in Businesses Cloud computing has been a controversy in Information Systems since Salesforce.com, the first of its kind, was released in 1999. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, “cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction” (Mell). In other words, the cloud uses the Internet to store, access, and process data. Before cloud computing, the only other way to store and process data was through in-house servers, which are simply a server located within the company. The invention of all new technology brings controversy because the amount of issues that could come from it must be compared to the amount of benefits. There are three different types of cloud computing, all of which can be incredibly beneficial for both personal and business use: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) (Turim-Nygren). Although they all function similarly, they take on their own roles and process information differently. The most commonly known is cloud storage such as Dropbox and Google Drive, which are categorized as SaaS. The pros and cons of cloud computing have been debated over the past decade, and......

The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains

...A Summary with Pros & Cons of “The Shallows: What the Internet is doing to Our Brains” Written By Nicholas Carr Summarized By Sarah Clark Information Systems for Management Summer 2013 At first glance of this book, “The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains,” I started to get the overall impression that the author, Nicholas Carr, was totally opposed to idea of technology. As a lover of technology myself, I dreaded reading this book because I thought that it was going to be a negative interpretation of technology. And while this book doesn’t exactly shed the most positive light on that subject, I’ve started to understand the overall views of Mr. Carr and identify with them as well. The book, not necessarily a discouragement of technology, but rather an explanation of how our brain operates with the constant technological noise that we are surrounded in day in and day out, comes from the authors own personal experiences. He states in the beginning of the book how he started noticing that he was having concentration problems and constantly felt the urge to check his phone, email, or blogs to stay abreast on the most current information. He started to wonder why? Why wasn’t he able to pay attention for longer than 5 or ten minutes? Why wasn’t he able to develop deep focus? Eventually he determined that it was because of the patterns with in our mind and how they have adapted with the constant flow of technology around us every day. The book......

Are Social Networking Sites Beneficial to the Society or Not?

...Are Social Networking Sites Beneficial to the Society or Not? Social networking sites are great for our society, due to its promotion increased interactions and connection between millions of people throughout the world. I personally am in favor of social networking sites because it allows people to create new relations and reconnect with their friends and family members. In addition, the reputation of social networking sites such as FaceBook, Twitter, and Linkedln, more than doubled from year 2005 to year 2009. These sites allowed all users to develop their online profiles of their background and interests as well as share thoughts, photos, links, music, and more (are social sites…for our society?). However, many argue that social networking sites attract people to spend more time online and less time with face-to-face interactions. Also, opponents say that the social networking sites provide many time wasting activities which replace the productive activities. According to the article, Are Social Networking Sites Good or Bad for Our Society? Teens spend an average of nine hours per week on social networking sites. The opposition states that teens growing up with these social networking sites may not be aware that all the information and photos posted on these networking sites can be regained even after deletion. The opponents also states that the consequences of over-sharing personal information and photos can lead to vulnerability to sexual and financial predators. It......
