The Punch
The most important thing to remember about leaving the past behind is to never look back, no matter how tempting it might be. That means leaving the physical and mental pain with the past. They never explained how much your fist hurts after that swing. The fact that the cheekbone of boy your age is as firm as the cement floors just a few metres away. This is the easy pain though. The pain which hurts most is when your throbbing fist becomes still and the adrenaline you felt is all but a memory.
I tried to argue to the ref that he was being a grub all game, that I was provoked, that he threw the first punch and that some sort of justification would ease my pain. Constant vulgarities being tossed at me, elbows to the face, rubbing my face into my own home turf ground, tasting the bitterness of the mud and feeling the dirt seeping into my pores. There’s a limit to how many times you can tell someone to back off, before the testosterone within you breaks through your self-control barrier and forces you to make sudden decisions which affect your life. So I threw my punch. Then he threw his. Exchanging rapid punches like an eager child opening a birthday present. Constant yelling from the sidelines, in the background; whether it was abusive or positive comments. We didn’t hear the words, not in our current state.
Those punches and jabs were far from swift though. Still half the time they scraped past our slippery shoulders. That didn’t die down the velocity of the ‘fight’. In fact all it did was make us that much more hasty to be the ‘big man’, to give the next hit. That’s right; in all our savagery we thought we were big men. And felt good about it too. When all your mates are behind you, cheering you on as you lose a few brain cells from the right hooks to the skull, what else would you feel like? Well if you’re a bit smarter than us, you would...

Hawiian Punch

...Research elements Hawaiian Punch background In 1934, A. W. Leo, Tom Yates and Ralph Harrison developed Leo’s Hawaiian Punch, a blend of fruits such as pineapple, passion fruit, papaya and guava, to add to their line of ice cream toppings sold under the Pacific Citrus Products Company. In 1946, the company was bought and renamed Pacific Hawaiian Product Company, and introduced quart-sized bottles of concentrate for sale, and later manufactured ready-to-serve red Hawaiian Punch in 46-ounce cans in the 1950s. In 1955, frozen concentrate was distributed to grocery stores and Hawaiian Punch became a national brand. Soon after “Punchy,” the mascot, was introduced, and the companies brand image and advertising identified it a successful product (Kerin, 2007). Over the next 30 years, Hawaiian Punch was bought out by RJ Reynolds (RJR) Company, Del Monte, who expanded distribution channels and introduced new flavors, Proctor and Gamble, who established the gallon bottle as a leading juice drink package and distributed at supermarkets and retail outlets via its bottle network in the carbonated drink aisle and independent food broker and warehouse networks in the juice aisle, and lastly Cadbury Schweppes, PLC (Kerin, 2007). In 2004, three Cadbury Schweppes, PLC business units—Dr Pepper/Seven Up; Snapple Beverage Group; and Mott’s—integrated to form Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages (Kerin, 2007). At the time, the Hawaiian Punch line consisted of 11 flavors and......

Hawaii Punch

...Background of the company chosen: Hawaiian Punch is a well-known brand of fruit punch drinks owned by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Inc. (DPS). The company experienced several ownership handovers and some of the most recent ones include Procter & Gamble sold Hawaiian Punch to Cadbury Schweppes in 1999, and Dr. Pepper Snapple was spun off from Cadbury Schweppes in 2008. The Current Situation of the Company: The main source of our study comes from an intensive case study that illustrates Hawaiian Punch’s “Go-to-Market Strategy” decision option, faced by the company’s Marketing Director Kate Hoedebeck during the time span from year 2004 to 2005. As the number one fruit punch drink sold in the United States, Hawaiian punch enjoyed its continuous success. Its goals are very much aligned with the customers’ needs, in the long-term it aims to maintain its competitiveness through high customer satisfaction, extensive product development, easy accessibility and better profits attainable for retailers to stock and sell. In terms of its strengths, it has already become Cadbury Schweppes’ fourth largest brand by volume. Since the acquisition of Hawaiian Punch by Cadbury Schweppes from Procter & Gamble in 1999, the company had employed two distinct and separate manufacturing, sales and distribution networks to stock and serve identical or similar beverages for the same retail customer. This dual distribution strategy by many has been seen as one of Hawaiian Punch’s strength, leading it......

This fascination led me to explore what occurs to a human head upon impact from a boxer’s punch. It is known that a knockout occurs when blood circulation to the brain is compressed. This compression results from the sudden acceleration and deceleration of the head[1]. Therefore, the primary focus of this experiment explores the relative effort necessary to cause significant movement to a head about a neck. Figure 1 - Picture of modeled head and spine secured to a table ! To achieve this, a simplistic mechanical model of a human head, a socket, and a spine was built. A volleyball was used to simulate a head. A garage door spring with a diameter of 4.0 ± .05cm was used as a spine. Lastly, a small......

The discussion will be on the computers, to printers, to ordering supplies, and even how employees sign in and out for payroll purposes. Business Technology – How has it improved or not improved business needs Computers The technology division at my place of employment is currently looking at ways to replace our current computers with energy efficient computers. In the past employees were asked to shut the computers down completely, however, that didn’t work for numerous reasons. The idea was brought up to replace our existing computers with energy efficient computers but still the computer must perform with high performance as the computers we currently have. As an administrative assistant it is sort of a benefit because assistants are the first line of employees who receive the newest or latest upgrades, however, it can also be a downfall. Many times with the new software it simply does not meet county expectations. When the expectations do not meet the standards it often times holds up the administrative work progress. This is due to the removal of the software that was installed, or the software didn’t work correctly, some computers we...

The Decreasing of Politeness in East Java Deal with Gender and Age

...The Decreasing of Politeness in East Java Deal with Gender and Age Syukur Insani Study Program of English Education and literature Faculty Studies of Culture Universitas Brawijaya As time goes by, people of Java that used to be judged as friendly and kind people, lose their politeness and good attitude slowly but surely. Nowadays fact, not all of them are friendly and kind people, many of them jokes in a very impolite way, they usually insult one's physical. This is the problem of the politeness degradation and this problem is getting worse. It is ironic, so many entertainers become popular or much more popular because they do rude and impolite jokes and the targets of the entertainers are young people that later will become the model of the next young people. Many young people who are still labile or unstable and usually still do not know how to behave but they love to watch television very much become love at joking in this way very much because it has become one of the trends of young people in their daily. Nowadays, there are some television shows that have entertainers or hosts who are often and tend to joke in rude and impolite way. The ways they joke often make someone or a group offended. One of the most controversial cases was when a celebrity couple broke up because of jokes in a television show. ...Nicolas ROLLAND Not reporting on observed unethical behaviour is morally wrong. Not using the company's established whistle-blowing procedure to report on sexist/racist/personalized jokes by managers, non-compliant financial or business activities... is wrong. First of all, we all agreed on the fact that in this kind of situations, it is crucial to proceed with caution. Indeed, if everybody in the company learns about an unethical behaviour, it can weaken the working atmosphere in the company as well as the relationships between all the employees. For that reason, the first reaction to have is to communicate directly to the person accused and not to the other employees, in order to keep positive working conditions in the firm. Moreover, denouncing unethical behaviour can be seen as a sign of distrust towards all the colleagues and may weaken your position in the firm. Here the issue is twofold because two behaviours can explain a bad joke: either the person is light-hearted which can be excused, or it’s a real discriminatory behaviour. In this second case, the person has the duty to report this conduct to the administration and the firm has the duty to impose disciplinary measures on this person. To me, there’s a reason why codes of ethics are being increasingly adopted in companies worldwide, that’s why in many situations, denouncing unethical behaviours is legitimate and imposing disciplinary sanctions is a logical consequence for unethical behaviours. Indeed,...

Primary Secondary Groups

...A primary group is typically a smaller group with very close and personal relationships. While a secondary group far less personal and usually has a function or goal that was in mind while the group was created. Primary groups build on human’s basic need of being social and accepted. This can come from family or even cliques at school. I chose family and military as my primary groups that I have and am a part of that I will analyze my role in these group situations. The secondary groups I chose are the group that was created the first day of this class and an online gaming community. The role I take on within my family can vary depending on each individual and situation. I would say that I have taken on each group task role, group building maintenance role and individual role at least once at some point. I try to stay in a role that is positive such as standard setter. While in a family many roles are filled but while in the military usually there are few roles being filled. The roles I filled within my time in the Army were still many but not as many as family. The usual roles being fulfilled for anyone is as a follower when in your first few years of military. Later one can become an orienter and coordinator. As a secondary group a gaming community is very informal. The people within the community though are there for one reason and that is to play games. My role usually within the gaming community coordinator and standard setter. In the group that was made......

Humor and Dissent

...1.In the Us, and other democracies, it is typical for people to joke about different political issues, disagreements that they may have with another person. They may poke fun at friends and family, or themselves (by using disparagement humor) as well. In the Us, and other democracies, it is typical to use humor as a stress reliever and as an ice breaker to meet new people. In autocratic regimes, like Egypt, citizens tend to joke about political issues also.Egyptian citizens also use jokes as a form of tension relief. However, it does not appear that Egyptian citizens joke about people they like or about themselves. 2 .When citizens in Egypt joked about Mubarak through his regime, they did so to relieve tension. Some Egyptian citizens may have used jokes to show that they were not afraid of Mubarak, and by telling these jokes, they were showing that they (Egyptian citizens), were not afraid to make it known that they did not approve of Mubarak’s regime. 3. Disadvantages of using these types of jokes about Mubarak include the possibility of losing friends. If one Egyptian citizen was against Mubarak's regime, and joked about it to another friend who thought Mubarak was a wonderful person, there could be a problem. Also a second disadvantage could be the fact that they could be killed for what they believe in. 4.Jokes that were told about Mubarak portrayed him to be a violent individual (which he was). Also the jokes told presented Mubarak to......

Comparative Essay - One Punch Issue

...One punch issue – comparative essay The recent focus on ‘one punch incidents’ in response to deaths on the streets of major cities, has prompted new laws controlling the behaviour of young revellers. Some commentators argue that the harsher penalties devised for these kinds of assaults, as well as the new lock out laws – was the only solution to the problem that threatens the reputation of Australian culture. Other more defensive voices suggest that the new lock out laws and police crackdowns are a misguided interpretation of the real issue at hand - and suggests the new system punishes not only the morally corrupt thugs on the streets, but rather the entire community drinking and socialising responsibly. The media has responded to this newly arisen debate with a variety of articles and opinions, some simply blaming the offenders themselves, while others attempt to appeal to the more conservative values bemoaning declining standards in public behaviour. b Mark Knight in his cartoon (Herald Sun, 11/01/2016) argues that the violence on our streets is the fault of an unintelligent and uncivilized few, not the fault of the majority of young people who enjoy a drink while out socializing. Using a mocking tone and appealing to both fear and reason, Knight positions readers to recognize that the response to alcohol fuelled violence must target the perpetrators, not punish the wider community. The cartoon is dominated by the stereotypical image of a drunken thug. He is clearly...

Everyone Has Two Choices

...EVERYONE HAS TWO CHOICES—EVOLVE OR DIE. It’s that simple, and that maxim holds true for every species. Either you can change with the tides or get swept away in their wake. Either you can grow or you can stagnate. Either you can stand out or simply be another face in the crowd. With their third album, American Capitalist [Prospect Park], Five Finger Death Punch—Ivan Moody [Vocals], Zoltan Bathory [Guitar], Jason Hook [Guitar], Jeremy Spencer [Drums], and Chris Kael [Bass]—morph into the melodic heavy metal machine that they’ve been moving towards since their 2007 debut, The Way of the Fist. Not only is their sound bigger; it’s better. Not only has the music become more intricate; it’s become more infectious.  Not only are they more direct; they’re more dangerous.   AMERICAN CAPITALIST Evolution gave birth to American Capitalist. Since their formation in 2006, Five Finger Death Punch continue to progress in the face of all odds and opposition. Darwin himself would be impressed at their list of accolades. The Way of The Fist and 2009′s War is the Answer have both surpassed Gold status. Those two albums have spawned seven consecutive top ten singles at Active Rock Radio with “Bad Company” peaking at #1 and “Far From Home” hitting #2. Other tracks have appeared on the hit game Splatterhouse and NBC’s Criminal Minds, with a brand new track set to appear on Madden 2012.
