THE RISE OF THE BAND “THE 1975” IN THE UNITED KINGDOM ON 2015

Presented By:
Montefalcon, John Marco C.
AAMT 1st-5

Presented To:
Mr. Mark Erickho Dela Cruz

March 10, 2016 I. INTRODUCTION The Band “The 1975” is a British alternative rock band based on Manchester. The band currently consists of four members, Matthew Healy on guitar and vocals, Adam Hann on guitar, George Daniel on drums, and Ross McDonald on bass. According to SEX, DRUGS, AND MUSIC: AN INTERVIEW WITH THE 1975(2013), they were formed when they started playing in punk bands in their high school age. Since then, they never left their side since 2002 until now. For me, I can see and notice it that their bond as a band is as strong as ever. And as said by the The 1975 from THE 1975’S EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE UNTITLED MAGAZINE(2014), They met at Wilmslow High School, and they said they kind of started out of boredom. The 1975 had a various genre and band names before settling on “The 1975”. Those names are Talkhouse, Drive Like I Do, BIGSLEEP and The Slowdown. But they are not all from Manchester. Healy is from London and Daniel is from Belgium with some roots in Seattle. They played different genres, including punk, pop punk, rock, alternative rock, rock and ballad and many more. The band plays on many live shows, concerts and tours. Their name, apparently, is derived from an entry in a book of Beat poetry which frontman Matt Healy came across. It’s a story he likes to tell with a pout and a profound look in his eyes. Presumably, it’s this experimental, countercultural literary movement which inspired the lyrics for the band’s breakthrough single, Sex: “You’ve got your tongue pieced anyway /You in your high tops any day /You in your skinny jeans anyway /You and your fit friends anyway/ I’d take them all out any day/They’ve all got back combs any way/You all got boyfriends anyway”.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM 1. What is the kind of music does the band play? 2. What characteristics of the band that made them famous? 3. What is the first song did the band made when they were recognized by people? 4. What is the impact of the band to the people that listens to them?

OBJECTIVES * To determine what kind of music the band plays. * To determine the characteristics of the band that made them recognized. * To determine what the band have done to make people recognize them. * To know what things they do about the fame they are getting from their fans.

II. BODY
The 1975 plays different genres. Before, when they were on high school they play punk music. And as time goes by, they play pop music, synth pop, and many more. According to The 1975's Matthew Healy May Be the Prophet of Pop Music(2014), The band “The 1975” is inspired by musicians such as Michael Jackson, Sigur Ros, My Bloody Valentine and Talking Heads, the band portrays different genres, such as classic pop, classic rock, R&B etc, and created its own unique sound. As I noticed, some of their songs were a mix or a blend of My Bloody Valentine and Talking Heads. According to The 1975 Biography by Scott Kerr(2014), the band combined "the dark and youthful themes of sex, love, and fear with ethereal alt-rock music." Healy specifically cites Talking Heads, My Bloody Valentine, and Michael Jackson as musical influences; he states that his greatest influence is the oeuvre of filmmaker John Hughes. For their second album, I Like It When you Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It, Healy cited D'Angelo, Roberta Flack, Boards of Canada and Sigur Rós as inspirations, saying "we're a post-modern pop band that references a million things.” Their "melancholic" black and white visual aesthetic is juxtaposed with major keys and what the band calls "classic pop sensibilities." The sound of their debut album, The 1975, has been described as electropop, funk rock, indie pop, indie rock, pop, pop rock and rock.
As for their characteristics, a lot of people like Healy. They also like the band, The 1975, the band write songs for, and describes as "an autocratic situation". They like them enough to have sent that album to No 1 in the UK in September, an insanely competitive month in which every major label threw every one of their major albums at the charts to see what would stick. The 1975 had a breakthrough that they were nominated for two Radio 1 Teen Awards, and just by that, the fans were amazed because they are competing with the finest musicians/ bands on the UK and in other countries like Bastille and One Direction. And on the contrary, a lot of people also do not like the band’s music. I also like Matty’s character because even with all the bashes and hate they are receiving from their fans, they just did not care and instead they used it as their strength to create even more creative music. And I also liked their devotion to music because they do not crave too much attention to their fans, and they said in an interview that they create music because they wanted too.
The first song that the band was recognized is the song, Chocolate from their self titled debut album according to Live Review – The 1975(2014). In fact, the song was nominated on the Radio 1 Teen Awards held on England. For me, though, the song Chocolate is about Marijuana because of the hidden meanings in the song’s lyrics. The song Chocolate is good and has a catchy tune though.

III. CONCLUSION
With all those hard works the band has done in the past years, I salute them as a fan. The band’s music had a big impact to me because we have few similarities. Like the band’s devotion to music, the band’s attitude and the band’s favorites. I like them as a band because they are, for me, is the face of the new generation of music. You want to know why? Because in these past years, some say that music is dead, Rock n Roll is dead, Hip Hop is dead and some say that artists are easy to replace because there are so many great artists out there. Some also say that artists in the current time are now producing nonsense music, that even babies can make themselves. But for me and the fans, The 1975 is an exception. They are not attention seekers like most of the artists are. They also do not produce nonsense music, because the fans feel “free” as they listen to their music. The fans feel that they’re being nostalgic on the band’s music. The fans feel happy despite their problems. Even though the band has so much fame, they are still humble. They don’t change their attitude. They just make creative music whenever they want to and they don’t care what the fans or people might say.

International sales crossed KRW 100 billion (nearly $100 million) in 2004, after foreign direct investments of comparable magnitude, but continued to be unprofitable. Could AmorePacific fulfill its vision of becoming one of the top-10 cosmetics companies in the world, with $4 billion in sales by 2015,...

Abstract This paper analyses the implications of differing global demographic trends for India’s competitiveness in outsourcing and offshoring. It also briefly notes the implications of differing demographic trends among the Indian states. The paper argues that demographic complementarities with high-income countries provide India with one-time opportunity to sustain its growth rate and occupy all segments of global outsourcing and offshoring activities. India has used the labor cost advantage to gain reasonable market share in these activities. It however faces serious internal and external challenges in sustaining its international competitiveness, particularly with respect to labor cost....
