Screen director, Wayne Blair, has shone light onto historical times to perceive the 1960’s for Indigenous people, to be much more glamorous than in actual fact. But have they missed a note when drawing what life was actually like? Ebony Coxall further explores the truth
The 2010 box office gem “the sapphires” is about 4 Aboriginal girls who, despite the racism and challenges they go through, touring Vietnam during the war to bring light into the lives of the solders.

Surely you’d be too afraid that the white people would hurt you if you said something like this, full aware of what other things they did for less.

The Sapphires Film Analysis

...The Sapphires is based on the real life story of four courageous Indigenous Australian women who, in an era of significant racial discrimination, used their talent overseas to entertain American soldiers during the Vietnam War. The group are discovered by a talent scout (Dave Lovelace) and form a musical performance group called The Sapphires. The movie is set in the 1960s during a time of poverty, discrimination, riots and revolution; taking place mostly during the Vietnam war. The Sapphires is focused on the aftermath of the Stolen Generation, rather than the actual removal of children. The film illustrates the suppression of Indigenous people and women in the 1960s as it follows the journey of growing empowerment of four fiercely determined women, despite unavoidable barriers such as dispossession. The historical context of The Sapphires shows us the progress of racial relations in Australia. One year before the arrival of The Sapphires in Vietnam, the 1967 Referendum ordered for several amendments to be made to the constitution. The referendum was a national vote to ask people whether two references in the Australian Constitution should be removed. These references discriminated against Aboriginal people as they allowed for them not be counted as people in a national census and not to have the same rights as...

The five main characters are Gail (Deborah Mailman), Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), Kay (Shari Sebbens), Julie (Jessica Mauboy) and Dave (Chris O’Dowd). The film and characters are based on a true story about the sisters Laurel Robinson and Lois Peeler and their cousins Beverly Briggs and Naomi Mayers. The Sapphires was directed by Wayne Blair and written by Keith Thompson and Tony Briggs. The film was set in 1968 and set in Cummeragunja; this is why they originally called themselves “The Cummeragunja Songbirds”. Throughout the movie they changed their name to “The Sapphires” because no one could pronounce their original name. The film is an amazing film filled with love, family and strong friendships. Angry Black Women Stereotypes

...nothing more than a stereotype, but it is dragged on for entertainment, which is the main issue at hand. Henceforth, the role of media and advertisements are what causes the persisting of racial and ethnic divisions. Television and media gives us the strong black women but use them in the same roles. Certain African-American women in the acting world are given nothing but these aggressive roles of women who are the epitome of anger and overbearingness. Ashley states, “These authors used a Stereotypical Roles for Black Women Scale (SRBWS) to study how the four common stereotypes of Black women (Jezebel, Sapphire, Mammy, and Superwoman) affect their self-esteem and internalization of stereotypes... The Sapphire syndrome characterizes Black women as brutish, domineering, matriarchal, and castrating and serves to degrade the dignity and inherent value of Black women (Nayman, 1983). Sapphire appears to be a precursor to the angry Black woman and contributes to pervasive denigrating and pejorative stereotypes of Black females.” (Ashley pg. 30) The word pejorative is defined as, expressing contempt or disapproval. These pejorative stereotypes on these women shed light on what they are running away from being but always seem to be plotted as. This stereotype in no way will be broken anytime soon. Why? The answer is simple. As long as consumers demand a product, the product will be supplied. This product is media’s portrayal of an “Angry Black Woman.” This mold is fed into due to being seen...

Nokia

...“Pricing Techniques” Studied in- Mobile Industry Company- Nokia Background of the study: Pricing Techniques: are the methods adopted by a firm to set its selling price. It usually depends on the firm's average costs, and on the customer's perceived value of the product in comparison to his or her perceived value of the competing products. Different pricing methods place varying degree of emphasis on selection, estimation, and evaluation of costs, comparative analysis, and market situation. It takes into view factors such as a firm's overall marketing objectives, consumer demand, product attributes, competitors' pricing, and market and economic trends. The term pricing technique is also called cost plus because it attempts to secure the firm against a loss by imbedding marginal and fixed costs into the price consumers pay. The term plus refers to markup, which may ensure some strictly positive profit. If, the firm sets markup = 0, the firm breaks even because the price equals the average total cost. Objective of the study: The objective of the study is to see the different pricing strategies used by Nokia for its different products. Nokia started by making paper – the original communications technology Nokia was founded in 1865 by Fredrik Idestam in Finland as a paper manufacturing company. In 1920, Finnish Rubber Works became a part of the company, and later on in 1922, Finnish Cable Works joined them. All the three companies were merged in 1967 to form...
