This book is fiction because it follows wolves and dogs and knows what they are thinking. Most of White Fang takes place in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, but toward the end of the story, the setting changes to California. The book is during the Klondike Gold Rush. It is very cold and they have dogs helping them get across a vast land of snow and ice. One man died so their dogs pulled him on a sled. Henry focused more on using his brain to escape the wolves that were hunting them because of a famine. The dogs were taken one by one. Bill had three rounds left in his gun that he was going to use to fend of the wolves against one of his dogs. He was surrounded by the wolves and got eaten. Later Henry was surrounded but used fire to fend them off. Then the wolves got very close, but a company of men come to the rescue looking for the dead man in the coffin. The wolves that were chasing them run until they find plenty of game. The pack splits up and Kiche, the leader of the pack had three suitors that wanted to be her mate. The oldest and wisest killed the other dogs and becomes her mate. Later when Kiche is looking for a place to have her pups and her mate follows along. She has her pups and only one survives through the many famines. While the two are out, they run into an Indian village where Kiche’s old master lives. Kiche is sold and later Gray Beaver becomes an alcoholic. He then sells White Fang so he can afford more alcohol. Beauty Smith, his new owner, is not a nice man.
