The housekeeper, Mrs Medlock took Mary to the house and assigned Martha, who was very kind and gentle, to be Mary’s new servant. Martha introduced the life there to Mary and encouraged Mary to play outside. She also revealed about the old garden which had been locked and forgotten for 10 years after the dead of Mrs.Craven. Mary could not help herself thinking about this secret as she went around others big gardens. She met a robin and his’s friend , the unpleasant gardener there and made friend with them.

Imagery in Hamlet

...Imagery in Hamlet Hamlet is one of the most widely read works of literature. It's an exploration of the multifaceted world of adolescence. This world is full of confusion, thoughtfulness, intimacy, and action. It's a study in how a young person emerging into adulthood attempts to cope. In Hamlet, Shakespeare allows his hero to dream and to think through his dreams (Williams). Hamlet is a revenge tragedy and by the end, almost every character has died in some tragic or gruesome way. In this play, Shakespeare makes use of imagery, allegory, metaphor, and symbolism. In particular, the symbols of the ghost, the garden, and flowers, along with imagery and metaphors for madness are used to convey specific ideas which provide depth and complexity to this story. The ghost is a pivotal symbol and appears throughout Hamlet. Is the ghost Hamlet's father or is it Hamlet himself? Is the ghost real or is it part of Hamlet's imagination? The ghost claims he is Hamlet's father. He says he was murdered by Claudius, Hamlet's Uncle who is now wed to Hamlet's mother and who is also sitting on the throne. He also says his sins must be wiped clean before he can ascend to heaven. His soul is "doomed" to endure "sulph'rous and tormenting flames" until the "foul crimes done in [his] days of nature / Are burnt and purged away" (1.5.6; 17-18). The ghost requires revenge and this is an odd request given the religious context, yet this is what sets the revenge plot in motion. Father's Ghost. My hour...

Scatch and Fats

...Summary: In listening to Louis Armstrong’s “ Satch Plays Fats” album you get a smooth, bourbon street vibe. You get the vibe as if you were in New Orleans at a jazz concert or parade. Armstrong has a very deep voice which is very noticeable in every song. I noticed the instruments played more than he did, which tells me he enjoyed playing his instruments more than singing. He blends his voice very well with his trumpet, the whole album gives off a laid back vibe to relax to. The album “ Satch Plays Fats” was dedicated to “Fats” Waller, and the two artist had many similarities. They both are very entertaining when it comes to there music ,and both are African Americans who sing from there soul. Evaluation: In listening to the smooth, trumpet sounds of Louis Armstrong it made me understand the strong meaning behind his music. Just through his lyrics I could feel the pain and struggle in his music of what he was going through in the song “ Black and Blue”. After listening to his CD, I realized how others could possibly start to like his music, it can touch you in a certain way. Overall I did actually like the album, in the beginning I never would have gave jazz a listen or even thought about actually liking some of the music from it. After taking the time to review and listen to Armstrong’s music I found a new interest. What I would like to know is how did he come up with his powerful lyrics, I would like to know if he was in the moment when he wrote his lyrics. They’re...

...A Summary of Treehouse The comic begins on a rainy night. Suddenly we see a young woman, who sprints through the rain, carrying her baby in her protecting arms. Her face reflects pure terror, and it seems like she is fleeing from something terrible. She reaches her final destination– probably an old friend’s or a family member’s house– and knocks on the door. The young man who opens the door recognizes her as ‘Diana’, and he is seemingly surprised to see her. Diana passes him the baby and mentions, that a mysterious he is chasing her. When she has made the young man promise that he won’t ever tell her son anything and that he will take care of him, Diana runs away without further explanation. She leaves her baby to be raised by the young man, Jerry. We spring forward in time, and now Diana’s baby is a fully grown teenager, presented as the protagonist of the comic. His name is Max, and he is several times referred to as a ‘troublemaker’. He lives with his ‘so-called’ uncle. Whether he is a real uncle or not, is unknown, but considering the short prequel about the mother handing away little baby-Max to Jerry, Jerry might just as well be a friend of the mother, calling himself Max’s uncle as a kind of an alibi. But under all circumstances, Jerry was the one who raised Max, and now they live together like a small family. Max and Jerry move around a lot. They never stay for a long time at one place, and Max is really fed up with that – he would probably rather just stay at one...

...------------------------------------------------- Professor A. Hoffman I. Executive Summary As outside council to Kentucky Fried Chicken, a Yum! Brands company, I was asked to consult on the branding crisis plaguing the popular fast food chains in the United States market. The public identity of Kentucky Fried Chicken has been on shaky ground for the past five years. The inconsistent branding and products have caused market share values and annual revenues to consistently decrease. The primary constituent, the consuming public, has been left to decipher the mixed messages presented by the Kentucky Fried Chicken brand. Through the implementation of a three-phase strategy, Kentucky Fried Chicken will be able to reestablish itself as a profitable leader in the fast food chicken industry. The design of a logo and company name, in conjunction with a healthy menu that properly embodies the meaning of the brand will be the key to a clear identity. The final piece of the equation requires a comprehensive, nationwide advertising plan to re-launch the contemporary and comprehensible identity of the Kentucky Fried Chicken brand. II. The Company The American fast food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) was a family run business, founded in 1930 by Harland Sanders in Corbin, Kentucky. The Sanders Court and Café featured Southern comfort foods, specifically the widely enjoyed fried chicken. Sanders began franchising his secret recipe throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s. Following the sale of Sander’s...

Ode to Autumn

...Stanza 1 Summary Lines 1-2 Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness, Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun; * From the title it's clear that the speaker is talking about autumn. The speaker briefly describes the season and immediately jumps into personification, suggesting that autumn and the sun are old pals. * "Mists" often accompany chilly weather because the moisture in the air condenses into a vapor when it's cold. * "Mellow fruitfulness" sounds like something people would say at a wine tasting, doesn't it? "Mmm...this season has a mellow fruitfulness, with just a hint of cherry and chocolate." The word "mellow," meaning low-key or subdued, is a good fit for autumn, with its neutral colors and cool, yet not cold, weather. And it's also the season when many fruits and other crops are harvested, making autumn fruit-full. * Autumn is a close friend of the sun, who is "maturing" as the year goes on. "Maturing" could be a polite way of saying "getting old." The sun is no longer in its prime. * A "bosom-friend" is like that friend you told all your secrets to in junior high school. Lines 3-4 Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run; * Ah, so now the sun and autumn are "conspiring," eh? Looks like we might have to separate the two of them. What are they whispering about over there? * OK, so not quite as thrilling as we thought. They are planning how to make fruit grow on the vines that curl...

...Summary  of  “The  Importance  of  Being  Earnest”   In Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest,” Jack Worthing, the play’s protagonist, is a young man who shoulders many responsibilities as a respectable citizen of Victorian society. In Hertfordshire, he is appointed the role of guardian to Miss Cecily Cardew, by the deceased Mr. Thomas Cardew, who adopted Jack when he was found abandoned as a baby. He also carries the title of Justice of the Peace and controls a large country estate. As such, he invents an alter ego for himself whom he calls Earnest. Earnest possesses all the qualities Jack pretends to disapprove of; he is exciting and irresponsible. Whenever Jack seeks freedom from his responsibilities he goes into London and tells Cecily he must take care of his brother Earnest who is always getting into trouble. In truth, Jack is posing as Earnest in London and Jack in the country. In Act I, Jack goes into London to tell Algernon Moncrieff, his friend, that he intends to propose to Gwendolen Fairfax, Algernon’s cousin. Algernon, who has begun to suspect Jack’s alter ego, asks Jack why he has a cigarette case addressed to “Uncle Jack” with the inscription, “From little Cecily with her fondest love.” Jack explains that his true name is Jack Worthing and that he takes the name Earnest in London whenever he wants to indulge in certain pleasures. Algernon confesses that he too tries to escape the boundaries put on him by pretending he has a fictitious...

Vision Quest

...Vision Quests and Women – Past and Present When we talked about the Vision Quests in class, related to Native American Religions, it was something that sounded interesting to me. Our textbook for class defines Vision Quest as simply, “Exercises undertaken by Native Americans seeking contact with the spirit world.” (Hopfe, 2012) Vision Quests are usually ventured into by younger individuals, and more specifically young men, when they are approaching puberty. From the time Native American children are young and can understand, they are told that someday they will be sent away to live by themselves, away from family, in a state of prayer and humility until they receive a vision. Usually the youth on the vision quest will have to fast and have no clothes or possessions as to be looked upon by the spirits and frail and humble. For some this vision may come quickly (within a few days) and for others it may take a significant amount of time. If the vision does not happen fairly quickly, the youth may become more extreme and cut themselves as to let the spirit know that they are genuine about their quest. Quite often when the vision comes, it comes in the form of some type of animal. The animal in the vision may also be performing an action or have some other object of significance. When the youth return to their family and community, they explain what they see in their vision. The vision is interpreted and the animal and the action or object that appears in the vision...

Silas Marner

...I enjoyed the novel and I found the story line intriguing. While I was reading the story it was hard for me to not want to learn more about the two boys’ personality and coping methods. It was definitely amusing to see how ignorant the small prince was and how he knew nothing about the real world before the switch. One of my favorite lines was when Edward and Tom were talking about the people who took care of the prince. When Edward found out that Tom didn’t have a servant to care for him he asked simply, “And prithee, why not? Who helpeth them undress at night? Who attireth them when they rise?” The way Twain portrayed the different boys really brought forward the point of understanding and brought a whole new meaning to the saying “to walk a day in someone else’s shoes.” This book was fun to read and as a reader I go t very emotionally connected to the two boys. I’m sure any one else who would read this novel, will love the plot line and the author’s style, and if not for those reasons at least they would enjoy the message the book gives. It is hard to relate the story to my own life because I am and will always be so different than the two boys. I have never had an uncomfortable living condition or an over exorbitant one. If I were in Tom’s position of having to take the role of the prince, I understand how it were hard for him to deal with but I think I would have been more proactive and less naive. Same with Edward as a pauper, I’m sure it was hard for him to deal with...
