The Transition of Vietnamese Wedding
The Vietnamese wedding is one of the most important ceremonies in Vietnamese culture. In modern life, although Western wedding style seems to be popular in Vietnam, most of Vietnamese still keep the traditional step when they get married. However, there are three changes in the wedding namely the wedding party, the congratulatory gift and wedding costumes. First of all, traditionally, there are two main steps in Vietnamese wedding. The first step is a betrothal ceremony in which the man’s family with betrothal presents such as areca nuts and betel leaves, tea, fruits, wines and other things covered with red papers come to the woman’s family to ask for a promise of marriage. The second step is wedding ceremony. In the morning, the groom’s family along with betrothal presents, which are similar to those from the betrothal ceremony, come to the bride’s home to receive her. At the bride’s home, after the trays of gift are given to the bride’s family, the groom and the bride meet each other. After that, the groom will bring the bride to his house in order to present her to his ancestor and relatives. At the groom’s home, the couples pray before the altar and bless for their marriage. Then, the parents share their experience and give advice to the couples. Moving on, the couples ex change their wedding rings and receive the gifts from their family. After the wedding ceremony is over, there will be a wedding party. In the party, the couples involve some step such as cutting wedding cake, pouring wine joining wine with their family and going to every table with their parents for presentation.
Even though most of Vietnamese still follow the traditional steps; there are some changes in the wedding. First about the wedding party, in the past, only close relatives and friends were invited to wedding parties held mostly at home. Since,

Man Search for Meaning

...Tuan Nguyen Professor Jeffrey McMahon July 28, 2014 English 1C Drama in Meaning I had a friend who studied with me in elementary to high school; her name was Lan. She was unlike other friends, always controlled by her parents. Because she grew up in a rich family and her parents did not want her to contact other people, she always isolated herself from the collective class. She couldn’t do whatever she wanted, just listened and did the thing that her parents want. With her, there was no goal and purpose in her life anymore. Lan did not care and just blindly did it; she was blind and lied to herself. This girl became frustrated and gradually stepped deeper into the whole of sink and darkness that she was digging up for herself. She couldn’t escape from her darkness because she never tried to escape from it. She only listened to her parents and not listen to herself about what she needed and what she wanted. Lan was not able to live a good life, and she was not being to find her purpose in life. When Lan did the things right, she usually considered that she was good and perfect; she thought that her life was perfect and there was no need to correct or change the way it was. This thought would make her easily become self- satisfied. Lan, who was also not moving or making any changing to adapt to the new situations suddenly come to life, was allowing bad things to come in her life. Moreover, without changing, she would be leaved behind and she would not be able to find...

Nowadays, society is more and more developing and modern. In pace with that trend, cohabitation lifestyle of Western has entered and influenced on the Eastern thought, so cohabitation becomes more acceptable in Eastern. Especially in Vietnam, the rate of which Vietnamese adults want to cohabit is high in both male and female. According to the survey of Nhu Lan, the journalist of Vnexpress, there is 70.29% of male and 61.1% of female want to cohabit. In Vietnam, people often misunderstand about the meaning of cohabitation. They perceive cohabitation as a trial marriage and this word trial makes them view it in negative way. Corporate Bond in Vietnam

...Corporate Bond Market in the Transition Economy of Vietnam, 1990-2010 VUONG, Quan-Hoang and TRAN, Tri Dung Corporate bond appeared early in 1992-1994 in Vietnamese capital markets. However, it is still not popular to both business sector and academic circle. This paper explores different dimensions of Vietnamese corporate bond market using a unique, and perhaps, most complete dataset. State not only intervenes in the bond markets with its powerful budget and policies but also competes directly with enterprises. The dominance of SOEs and large corporations also prevents SMEs from this debt financing vehicle. Whenever a convertible term is available, bondholders are more willing to accept lower fixed income payoff. But they would not likely stick to it. On one hand, prospective bondholders could value the holdings of equity when realized favorably ex ante. On the other hand, the applicable coupon rate for such bond could turn out negative inflationadjusted payoff when tight monetary policy is exercised and the corresponding equity holding turns out valueless, ex post. Given the weak primary market and virtually nonexistent secondary market, the corporate bond market in Vietnam reflects our perception of the relationshipbased and rent-seeking behavior in the financial markets. For the corporate bonds to really work, they critically need a higher level of liquidity to become truly tradable financial assets. Thus, this paper attempts to fill this theoretical gap. A literature search of social sciences databases (from 1840 to now) yielded 25 articles with a total sample of 12,848 Chinese community participants and 3397 clinical participants. The major findings were: (1) Social gambling is widespread among Chinese communities as it is a preferred form of entertainment. (2) Prevalence estimates for PG have increased over the years and currently ranged from 2.5% to 4.0%. (3) Chinese problem gamblers consistently have difficulty admitting their issue and seeking professional help for fear of losing respect. (4) Theories, assessments, and interventions developed in the West are currently used to explain and treat PG among the Chinese. There is an urgent need for theory-based interventions specifically tailored for Chinese problem gamblers. (5) Cultural differences exist in patterns of gambling when compared...

Food and Culture

...PRACTICAL - 2 AIM: To explore the food culture in Old Delhi and New Delhi OBJECTIVES: 1. To understand food culture in Old Delhi and New Delhi. 2. To gauge similarities and differences in Old Delhi and New Delhi. 3. To study the impact of globalization on food culture in Delhi. INTRODUCTION A composite view of culture posit that the core of a culture consists in the shared assumptions, beliefs and values that the people of a geographical area acquire over generations. Assumptions, beliefs, values and norms are intermeshed and mutually interactive; they constitute the directional force behind human behaviour, which creates physical artefacts, social institutions, cultural symbols, rituals and myths. The latter in turn reinforce people's beliefs, norms and value systems and thereby enable the society of which they are part, to maintain cultural continuity (Sinha 2004). An essential feature of a culture is that its basic assumptions, beliefs and values are historically derived, traditional worldviews, transmitted from generation to generation. These temporal sociocultural links signify the distinctive achievements of a human group, thereby enabling them. to condition their future actions (Kroeber and Kluckhohn 1951: 181). By implication, culture is adaptive and changing – changing more rapidly and radically at its outer layers – artefacts, institutions and patterns of behaviours – than at its core which is primordial. Major changes in environment compel people to...

...cultures, but the main core of respect and reverence to ancestors and to those who had just passed is still there. The Igorot culture that I like to share is about our practices and beliefs during the "time of Death". Death is part of the cycle of life. Igorots practice this part of life cycle with a great meaning and importance. Before the advent of Christianity in the Igorotlandia, the Igorots or the people of the Cordilleran region in the Philippines were animist or pagans. Our reverence or the importance of giving honor to our ancestors is a part of our daily activities. We consider our ancestors still to be with us, only that they exist in another world or dimension. Whenever we have some special feasts (e.g., occasions during death, wedding, family gathering, etc.), when we undertake something special (like going somewhere to look for a job or during thanksgiving), we perform some special offer. We call this "Menpalti/ Menkanyaw", an act of butchering and offering animals. During these times we call them in our prayers to join us in spirit. We do this also to ask for help and/or ask for guidance, etc. The prayers are usually performed by an elderly person of the town (called "pangamaen" for a man and "Panginaen" for a woman; however an elderly man has preference to be "the prayer renderer" when we have the choice). By the way and to reiterate, our practices of revering are not a form of...

Globalization and It Effects on Cultural Integration: the Case of the Czech Republic.

...GLOBALIZATION AND IT EFFECTS ON CULTURAL INTEGRATION: THE CASE OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC. INTRODUCTION I. AN OVERVIEW. With the growing standards of the world and the existing concepts and complexities in political, economic and socio-cultural ideologies, man has always and continuously pondered over the aspects of his nature. Unity, equality, trade and commerce are at the forefront of man's complexities. With these thoughts in mind, man has moved through history trying to satisfy his desires in relation to others. The advent of the twenty-first century gave birth to the idea of making the world a single village, thus, globalization. Globalization is the most talk-about issues in the 21st century. However, there is the difficulty of the world to come up with a single and uniform definition. This is because, so many people doubt if the happenings in the world today are as a result of globalization. Thus, due to these global differences of what this concept actually is about, globalization has grown to involve aspects not only of economy, but politics and other socio-cultural issues. Globalization affects almost every human being, this is because the process of globalization is said to have expanded almost through out the entire world either through transport, commerce, and communication. In addition, man’s activities on the globe are all located under these sectors. Culture, as a way of living of man, is identified by every one immediately after birth and was often...
