In the story “The Weapon” the underlying theme is that society or mankind could demolish itself when given the chance. In the story the author gives away that the doctor is creating a weapon that is made out to be deadly. He is too naive to listen to the good points that niemand makes about not revealing the weapon to the public. After not being listened to by the doctor Niemand gives the son the gun at the end of the story to display the theme. The son is supposed to represent the society or mankind receiving the big weapon because the doctor does not understand that the weapon if put in the hands of the people of the world could kill everyone like the pistol could kill the child.
