The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin is a very mysterious story. Sixth graders at Gull Lake middle school have been working very hard to figure out the murder of Sam Westing. The students have watched the movie and read the book. The Westing Game book and movie have many similarities and differences that are worth examining.
The Westing Game was created by Sam Westing to find a worthy heir. In the game, each partnership gets a set of clues. These clues lead the heirs to the answer of the puzzle which is Berthe Erica Crow. Those clues were the “queen’s sacrifice” to distract from the answer of the game. The movie has the same concept where the heirs get clues that lead them to Erica Berthe Crow. The storylines in the book and in the movie are very interesting, although there are some interesting similarities.

The settings are one very different between the two presentations. In the book the westing house is a big mansion that sits on a hill, although in the movie the mansion is not on a hill which does hot give it a very dramatic affect. In the movie the Sunset Towers building is a brand new building on the shore of Lake Michigan, on the other hand the movie shows that Sunset Towers is a run down building in a bustling city. In the movie Grace Wexler makes such a big deal about moving to Sunset Towers, in the movie she sounds like moving there is a set back. The characters are also different, first of all some characters were left out from the book including, Theo Theodorakis, Catherine Theodorakis, George Theodorakis, and Flora Baumbach. Also Doug Hoo is not in the actual game, his partner would have been Theo’s partner if he was in the book. There are a lot of interesting differences that really show how different the two presentations
