These Things I’ve Learned….

If you really stop to watch….stop to listen and take in the moment, you realize how fast the world is moving around you. You also realize that you have missed a million moments by (personally) moving--just as fast as that world. As cliché as it may sound, I blinked and I was 18 years old, I blinked and I was 30, and I blinked and now I am 50. That is how fast it feels. I swear my children were just born….but suddenly, they are adults. It feels like just yesterday that I was a young woman able to raise a child, work full time and take a night class all at once with ease, and now I’m a grandma with a good few aches and pains, looking at retirement plans. Very rarely do we think about our life’s purpose or reflect on the big picture when we are growing up or even when we are in our 20’s or 30’s. I’m sure it happens at different ages for different people…maybe some never do, I don’t know. I believe I started “getting it” when I was in my 40’s. By this…I mean that I truly realized what was important in life and what not to sweat about. Losing family members had a lot to do with it. It was hard enough when I lost Grandma and Grandma ...parents are security blankets that are very, very hard to lose. But when Uncle Bob died…I felt a major change in my soul. It was as if I’d been on a spinning top my whole life and then it just stopped. Everything was suddenly right there in front of me to deal with…think about, from my childhood to the present. It was as if I was seeing things with new eyes…and it wasn’t a bad experience at all. Looking back, I knew that I had made mistakes, but also that I had done the best I could with what I knew at the time and with the resources that I had. I was proud that I had learned to be a kind, caring person with a great sense of humor who, still to this day, sees the good in all

Dream Job

...My dream job is a doctor because I want to help sick people to become healthier. I can also help my parents when they are sick. To become a doctor, I have to read a lot of books because doctors are required to know well about the human body. Also, I have to study English very hard because most of the medical terms are in English. In order to become a doctor, I have to make a constant effort. There are few things for me to work on. First, I have to love and serve for those who are sick. Doctors need to give extra care for their patients because they need to know well about each patient. Second, all doctors have to be diligent. If the doctors are lazy, and do not care to know about the patients, they cannot help them to become healthier. There are many other things for me to work on, but I think these two are the most important things for me to become a good doctor. My dream job is a doctor because I want to help sick people to become healthier. I can also help my parents when they are sick. CARL ROGERS PART I -- DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM [Before the Interview] "From my own years of therapeutic experience, I have come to feel that if I can create the proper climate, the proper, relationship, the proper conditions, a process of therapeutic movement will almost inevitably occur in my client. You may ask, 'What is this climate? What are these conditions? Will they exist in the interview with the woman I am about to talk with, whom I have never seen before?' Let me try to describe very briefly what these conditions are as I see them. First of all, one question is, can I be real in the relationship? This has come to have an increasing amount of importance to me over the years. I feel that genuineness is another way of...

Atheist/Theist

...surprise I don’t know any atheists. I struggled trying to think of one of my friends who doesn’t believe but I found none. So the only thing I can do is tell you what an atheist is. Atheist simply means non- believer in a deity or deities. There are several kinds of atheist, which are, ethical, psychological, sociological, pragmatic, metaphysical, and epistemological. The only thing an atheist has in common with another atheist is the fact they both don’t believe in a deity or deities. You could never make a statement like she is a good atheist or a true atheist because the only credential needed to for atheist(ism) is for someone not to believe in a deity or deities. Theist The theist I interviewed was my former Youth Pastor and Current Associate Pastor: Pastor Melanie Davis. Me: Does God exist? Pastor Mel: Yes he does exist. She answered with any hesitation or pausing. She was confident with her statement no explanation needed. She said as if it was a fact. Me: How do you know God exist? Pastor Mel: I know this because I’ve seen him work in my life. He has done things that neither man/woman nor myself could have done. I was happy with that answer, but I still had to ask one more question. Me: If God exist like you say he does, then why is there evil in the world? Pastor Mel: There is evil in the world because of our own choices. God gives us free will, and we have to choice to do right by God and man. My Point of View I believe there is a God and I believe...

Paper

...Philosophy, Phil-2-2503 Dr. Fjeld October 7, 2010 The Unbridgeable Gap Over centuries, the epistemological gap has been an issue of debate and controversy among deep philosophical thinkers. This very gap refers to the gap between “subject” and “object”, and it is this very gap that provoked the question of true objectivity. Can we reach true objectivity and in essence, know an object in itself? Although many philosophers found their own ways of bridging the epistemological gap and proposed many intellectual explanations, I found that for myself personally, none of the theories settled quite perfectly for me. There was always a lingering question among the theories as their own separate entities, and so as a believer of a mélange of different ideas and philosophies, I must say that I do not believe that the epistemological gap can be bridged. Plato first began to tackle the epistemological gap by presenting the idea of “Forms”. He insisted that through love here in existence, we are pointed to the perfect forms above, with each step up being a step closer to the higher Forms. He believed that all things in existence participated in the perfections above us. For example, anything beautiful here on earth partakes in the bigger, higher Form of “Beauty” in the heavens. Plato gives the cave parable in his dialectical The Republic to further explain the pathway from denseness to clear. All people on earth view only the shadows reflected off the wall of a cave, while real life is...

7th Class Leader Analysis

...challenging. I had to get used to all the technology and since it was a new school I had to get know the teachers and the students. After my second week of school I noticed progression in socializing, spiritual growth, and in academics. Overall the three things I would like to grow in are getting to know how to use my chromebook, straight A’s, and being a good leader. There are many things I expect to grow in but these are definitely my top three. One thing that would be really cool to have is my connection with christ. I am also really thankful that I have already made friends and that no one is mean to me. A leader, straight A’s, and my chromebook are my main things for this year. On my chromebook I would really like to learn how to share docs. I really want to know how to share docs with multiple people because I don't know what to type or what to press. I want to know how to do this so if somebody ask about something I can tell them and give it to them. I really want to know how to navigate my drive. Certain things come in my folder but in different folders so it’s hard to find them because it’s hard to keep up when there are so much. I started to learn that whatever class its...

...Fuller is dead and I went, “Wait a minute!” because I was working with the institute at the time, I went, “This is the guy who said, ‘death is yet --- [Background conversation] So Bucky Fuller 30 years --- [Background conversation] [0:01:47] So Bucky Fuller died 30 years ago and everybody went, “Bucky Fuller’s dead, we should wrap up all the stuff, put it in an archive.” And I went, “Wait a minute! This is the guy who said, ‘this is not me, this is yesterday’s breakfast. And when this is gone doesn’t mean I am gone, it means that you need to find other ways to communicate with me.’” And I actually just got an email yesterday from a woman who said, “Oh! I’ve been dreaming about Bucky Fuller and I actually saw him in the mall the other day.” And I am like, “Whoa! This is pretty interesting she’s in Australia.” And I think that his influence is like everywhere. [0:02:27] What I decided was that I was going to do -- that he had conducted a 56 year experiment to determine and document what one individual could achieve that could not be accomplished by any religion, government, organization of any kind. So it’s basically what one man can do and he documented it and I said, “Well, when somebody does an experiment, you don’t just archive it away. You actually examine it.” So that’s what I’d spent the last 30 years doing literally. And doing what he told us to do, which is what all the great teachers say, they all say, don’t believe a word I say, don’t believe a word I wrote, right...

Tipping Point

...This book is all about how things around will be affected by a simple or small change. This book is entitled “The Tipping Point” and is written by Malcolm Gladwell. I believe this is the best book among the three that I’ve read. For me this is the most interesting book of the three. The reason for that is because the different stories here are more relatable than the stories from the other two books. There are so many things that are interesting about this book. The first thing that caught my attention was the first part of the book which contains the acclaims for this book. Just by reading those lines, you would get the feeling that there are a lot of things that you would learn from the book. True enough, once you’ve finished reading the book you would make certain realizations about life and agree with what Gladwell says in the book. The next part that caught my attention is the part where he talked about yawning being contagious. Before reading this part I already know that yawning is a contagious act, that if one person sees you yawning he or she would also yawn few moments after you started yawning. What I didn’t know is that just by also reading the word “yawn”, a person would also be yawning, and I’ve experienced it first hand when I read this part. I yawned a few times before I finished reading that part, and after reading that part I said to myself that I shouldn’t read when I’m tired especially when there is the word “yawn”. Next thing is chapter 1 when he started...

Theaetetus

...is read to them by a servant. Euclid. Have you only just arrived from the country, Terpsion? Terpsion. No, I came some time ago: and I have been in the Agora looking for you, and wondering that I could not find you. Euc. But I was not in the city. Terp. Where then? Euc. As I was going down to the harbour, I met Theaetetus-he was being carried up to Athens from the army at Corinth. Terp. Was he alive or dead? Euc. He was scarcely alive, for he has been badly wounded; but he was suffering even more from the sickness which has broken out in the army. Terp. The dysentery, you mean? Euc. Yes. Terp. Alas! what a loss he will be! Euc. Yes, Terpsion, he is a noble fellow; only to-day I heard some people highly praising his behaviour in this very battle. Terp. No wonder; I should rather be surprised at hearing anything else of him. But why did he go on, instead of stopping at Megara? Euc. He wanted to get home: although I entreated and advised him to remain he would not listen to me; so I set him on his way, and turned back, and then I remembered what Socrates had said of him, and thought how remarkably this, like all his predictions, had been fulfilled. I believe that he had seen him a little before his own death, when Theaetetus was a youth, and he had a memorable conversation with him, which he repeated to me when I came to Athens; he was full of admiration of his genius, and said that he would most certainly be a great man, if...

Sororities Research Paper

...they are treated unfairly? I don’t think so. I know there’s a few stereotypes for certain sororities but those are not made by people that really know anything about them. I know for a fact, some people think that sorority girls are easy to get with, sleep with whatever, they’re all bitchy, all they care about is themselves, and they only hang out with their sisters. Those are some of the stereotypes that we have but none of them are true, I’ve been around them for multiple years and I know plenty of them and enough of them to know that those aren’t true and it’s not fair for them to have people think about them like that. What are some stereotypes that you’ve heard about fraternity guys and sorority girls? Ccc Part 1 Selecting a Communication Goal

...1. List of "I can't" behaviors: A.) I can't admit that I am wrong with my friends. There has been many times where I never want to swallow my pride and admit that I am in the wrong. I have the hardest time accepting that I am not right. Even if I can't justify my side of the story I never want to be the first to make peace because I am so stuck on my own perspective. B.) I can't stop starting arguments with my girlfriend. I am very narrow minded that I have difficulties understanding the other person. I am always the one to jump into conclusions even when it is irrelevant to the topic. It does not have to be anything big for me to find a way to argue about anything because I always end up finding a way to have something to say about. C.) I can't accept feedbacks from my mother without getting into an argument. Because my mother is not fluent in English and I don't speak Hindi (Indian) to my mother, there is a language barrier between us. It is very difficult for my mother and I to communicate because she does not understand a lot of the things I need to tell her or vice versa. More than half of the time we spend arguing than talking to one another. D.) I can't stop holding grudges over little unnecessary things. I noticed that if I'm stuck in a situation about for instance, I tell you to do something and it doesn't get done how I specifically want it done, my friends/family will never hear the end of it. I will hold people accountable for things that normally aren't that...
