For many decades, schools have become about fashion rather than education. During this time, public schools have debated whether students should wear school uniforms. There are people who think that school uniforms should not be required to wear in school. On the other hand, there are quite a few people who agree with wearing school uniforms. Students wearing school uniforms would be the best thing for students’ altogether, mainly for three reasons. School is a place for learning; therefore, school uniforms are good because they ensure equality, provide security, and are cost/time effective. In today’s society, students forget about the real reason of going to school and focus on their appearance and popularity. If public schools were to bring in school uniforms, this would cut back on the “socio-economic” differences (Essay on School Uniform). Cutting back on the differences allows the students to be equal. Students would be able to go to school, and not have to worry about what another student saying something about what they are wearing. Also, school uniforms will cut down on the social conflicts like cliques or gangs. The school uniforms take away the style or colors that gangs or cliques would wear to stand out from one another. When a parent sends their child to school, they believe that their child will be safe. School Uniforms help school administrators provide security for the students. “In Long Beach, California in 1994 the schools there have [saw] a change in the way students act, for the better. The crime rate is down 76%; assaults on school property [were] down as well by 85%” (Uniforms in Public School). School uniforms have got rid of distractions and have allowed students to focus on their work. According to Long Beach Press-Telegram, “Principals and teachers tell us that students' success is taking many forms -- fewer absences, fewer [tardiness],

...Raising the minimum wage will not help the economy but hurt it Rough Draft Jody Dunham Course Name (i.e. EN102 English Composition II) Mrs.Romera 09/05/2014 Miller-Motte College Online Programs Raising the minimum wage will not help the economy but instead put more people on state assistance. When looking into a few resources about the effects the minimum wage raise will have on the economy I have found some pretty devastating results that show how the economy will pay for this so call raise. The one that everyone thinks will save us all from an economic collapse. If you raise the minimum wage you must also raise the cost of living to match the pay increase. Here, I show you an example of this “Fast food restaurants would have to raise prices by nearly two-fifths. This would cause sales to drop by one-third and profits to drop by over three- quarters.” (Shark, James) “As it is the minimum wage is already $3.30 less than it was in the year 1968, and the data does not reveal a significant link to unemployment.” (Cassidy, John) However, this is with the minimum wage as it sits now without a marginal increase. If it increases dramatically the cost of living increases dramatically too. As with any situation when you spend more you must pay for it from somewhere else. “The higher wages are not free money. The increased cost must either be absorbed by either an employer, which is impossible for an employer who already operates on a shoe string profit margin. Otherwise...

Ethics Paper

...How to Write a Paper About Nothing Posted on February 22, 2010 · in How-To Writing classes tell students a lot of things. A great many of these things are true, if you’re one of those outmoded models with a “drive to learn” (it hurts to type it) or are one of the poor souls to major in a topic with the word “literature” attached to it. For the rest of us, a different model of writing is necessary. Specifically, a model of writing that can be applied at 1 AM with a hangover and a dozen different assignments due the following morning. As firm believers in sloth and vigilant guardians against that daemon known as effort, Tiger Mag is here to help. The following is a guide to writing a paper just marginally worth the ink used to print it. Carry it with you in dark places, and even darker deadlines. Step 1: Brainstorming Or rather, a lack thereof. A key element of the Tiger Mag academic writing method is a complete and utter lack of forethought and preparation. If your citations go further than the first ten search results on Google, you’re probably overdoing it. Step 2: The Un-Thesis As you might have guessed, the un-thesis is the antithesis of the thesis. After saying that aloud five times, you might wonder just what exactly that means. But that enigma is the sheer brilliance of the un-thesis: it means nothing. The un-thesis is simply an excuse to ramble for six pages on any related topic that happens to cross your mind as you tap futilely away at your keyboard. The ideal...

Julius Caesar Essay: My Worst Piece Of Writing

...was my Julius Caesar essay. This was my worst piece of writing because I did not have good preparation and I was slightly rushed while writing the essay. The essay could only be written in one class period, so I was not able to read over my paper and check for grammatical problems. Another personal detail that made me struggle during the writing was I forgot some parts about the play and didn’t understand specific sections. Without fully understanding some parts of the play, it was difficult to analyze my evidence. A third detail that made me struggle when I was writing this essay was bad time management. When I started the essay, I did not look at the time very often, so when...

Chemotherapy Reflection

...compare the two, but just allow me to exaggerate my disdain for writing. Throughout this course, I repeatedly participated in the essay review process, was forced to learn how to form a proper thesis, and was introduced to graphic organizing techniques that will, unfortunately, actually help me out in the future. The essay review process is almost as boring as it sounds and is self-defined in its name. Writing an essay consists of brainstorming ideas, creating a rough draft, reviewing the rough draft, then submitting the final paper. We learned this early on in English class and as a matter of fact, we had to submit a “bio” of who we were on the first day of class. Now as I look back at that...

Communication And Writing Class Analysis

...Throughout the first half of the semester, I’ve learned a handful of useful things for the future in terms of writing. From the beginning of this class, I’ve been drenched in work online and in class. From doing reflections on the class everyday to the more recent research paper the class has been working on. The most helpful things that I learned in this class that can possibly be used in the future are the vocabulary words, the research paper, and the class reflections.     The more helpful out of the things learned in this class was the vocabulary that we have done. Vocabulary is a key component in communication and writing. I had to look up and define ten words as an assignment for the class and now I can use those ten words in future communications or writing assignments. Not only that, the vocabulary that we have done and learned can be used overall in life. By overall in life, I mean with possibilities of job/career opportunities, school, or just having a nice conversation with someone....

Reflective Essay Analysis

...In writing my synthesis paper as well as the reflection done in week 9 discussion I have modified and refined my writing style as well as my approach to this essay to get a successful outcome. My goals for where this essay is going to go has definitely changed from what I want to present and argue. This mentality has come from the commentary given to me by the other students to push my ideas further, to develop the basic idea of my essay and maturing it into a more creative realm. For the drafting aspect of the paper I have begun constructing the bare bones of the paper, outlining what I want to discuss in the paper, how I want to present it, self-workshopping the body paragraphs and transitions, as well as composing a well thought out thesis that encapsulates all of my ideas into one argument. I have been going through my annotated...
