It started at Kean University where seventeen lovely women joined together with the desire to create a Latina Sorority. A sorority that would allow minorities to have a voice and pave a way for the success of future generations. Lambda Theta Alpha would have a great impact on social, political and community values. Forty two years later, LTA is governed by the principles of unity, love and respect and promotes the development of the universal woman through social activism and community involvement. The concerns of Lambda Theta Alpha were the lack of unity, love and respect in our community. They created a sisterhood where women could feel a sense of belonging and have a support system our community did not provide. The goal was to present an empowering and uplifting atmosphere that promoted confidence, professionalism, academic excellence, success and compassion. This fostered the creation of a new universal woman.
