Reflection Paper

...FAMIPOP Reflection Paper Name:_________________ Section:_________________ Date:____________ Reflection Paper Number:________ FAMIPOP Reflection Paper Name:_________________ Section:_________________ Date:____________ Reflection Paper Number:________ The topic my group chose for our research paper, and consequently our talk show, was the effects of parenting styles on the students’ perception of their academic performance. We chose this topic because, as students, we found how different students study in different styles interesting. We wanted to dive into the more specific details of these students study habits and work ethics. From studying early in the morning to reading various text books late at night, we though this could probably be caused by how they were raised and the environment they grew up in, especially regarding their parents’ treatment toward these students. Initially, we got major information we could use for our research during class. It was found that children behaved and grow up depending on how they were treated at home, after all, most of our lives start at home. Children with authoritarian parents, which entail parents who are very strict and implement rules just because they are the parent, tend to be rebellious and aggressive. Children with authoritative parents, or parents who stand in the center of strict control and leniency, tend to be obedient, responsible...

Professor Stollman Reflection Essay

...I am a major in professional pilot. Some days are not usually the best day, but Mondays and Wednesdays are always the best. Being in this class not only taught me how to properly analyze my writing and correctly fixing it. My experiences I will never forget. Even though I’m not the best writer you ever had in this class I will outwork the hardest writer by far which deserve an eighty-two percent as my final grade. coming in this class I did not know how to analyze articles at all, I read but it wasn’t to a point where I can break down and correctly analyze what the author is saying exactly, without him actually saying it without actually saying it. Highschool was a place for fun in my opinion, it was just to get you past that level not prepare for life and college. therefore, I came into Ms. Stollman’s class with zero knowledge on being able to write a proper paper. Professor stollman’s class it will change your whole perspective on essays, every paper from now on will be in MLA format. I say this with great gratitude professor stollman’s class is a class you will never forget. Even though all the 65% on papers make you want to rip your hair out. Racism in the Media

...Com 101 Final Paper Racism in the Media “Due to the growing media influence, racism has evolved from “black and white” in the past to the multi-cultural issue it is now.”(Media and Racism) In the past, racism in the media was conveyed only through the use of the newspaper. Newspaper was the fastest and most popular way of receiving media information and was often more direct and bias to the gatekeepers. However, the current day variety of media types and sensitivity to racism has evolved media to sending the message to target different demographics, using an array of tactics to deliver the message. The tactic that we chose to talk about is the satirical presentation approach. In the past there were a lot more people who were racist and spoke out about it. This led to the media sending messages that were more directly to the point instead of “sugar coating” the words or situations. The newspaper or radio would cover stories that would be broadcasted for the people who could afford the paper or to have a radio. These people at the time were also the wealthy white men. The gatekeepers of these papers and broadcasting were usually powerful white men that were heavily racist themselves. This led to people only seeing that blacks at the time were terrible people being punished, this is what they wanted the people listening and reading to feel. As time went on racism started to become more discrete and behind closed doors. People became sensitive to the terms...

A Thousand Paper Cranes

...A Thousand Paper Cranes I have always loved taking pictures. When I was little, I used my cheap digital camera to take pictures of anything and everything. I took pictures of my family, my pets my belongings… Anything I had access to, I photographed. The summer before I turned eight was when I actually became interested in professional photography. Every night I dreamt of the fancy props, cameras, lenses and lighting that someday I would use to photograph everyone who was anyone. I’d be famous. I would photograph celebrities, super-models, big figures in politics; I’d be the photographer who everyone would envy… If only I could get that camera. “Mimi, make sure your room is clean!” my mom yelled from the living room. I was sitting on the ground, running my fingers through the pink, plush carpet that covered my bedroom floor. I was daydreaming, which was very typical me. Everywhere around me reporters rush around, trying to get a story. “Mimi! Mimi! How did the photo shoot go with the presidential family yesterday?”“Mimi! Mimi! Do you ever plan on helping other photographers follow in your steps?” “Mimi! Is your room clean? We need to run errands!” my mom yelled again, quickly jolting me back to reality. I rushed to throw the papers and pencils back in my laptop bag, and then I turned my computer off and grabbed my wallet. I ran into the living room and careened around the corner, just stopping short of the dividing wall. “I called your name four times. Why didn’t you answer...

Language of Music

...September 20, 2014 Concert Report Paper The Faculty Favorites Concert celebrating Caldwell University’s seventy-five year anniversary took place on September 20, 2014 at 6 o’clock p.m. in the Alumni Theatre. The Alumni Theatre is relatively a small hall with a theatre-like environment. The seats are set up in a way where they curved around the stage and the ceiling is very high. The stage was already set up with the drum set, piano, and bass form the beginning. In general, the audience was very calm and mindful of the theatre and performers. Some of the audience members were dressed formally while others were dressed casually. The performers were very professional and attentive to their performances. The men were dressed mostly in black and the women in other colors such as yellow and dark blue. All of the performers that performed were extremely talented, but the music I liked the best was “O Sole Mio (My Sunshine)”. The lyrics of the song was written by G. Capurro and the music was composed by E. di Capua. The performance consisted of only the piano and a singer. The song was performed by Dan Yates singing in baritone and Warren Hems on the piano. This style of this song appeared to be a western classical opera. The performer did an amazing job interpreting the song and did an amazing job using the space provided on the stage. He not only looked in one direction but directed his voice in all of the directions of the theatre. This was my favorite music because...

Theory Application

...Spencer Rohatynski Professor Zang Theory Application Paper December 3, 2015 The Perfect Combination “The human mind is everywhere one, and the same in that it has the same capacities.” Strauss uses the article “‘Primitive’ Thinking and the ‘Civilized’ Mind” to get a vast, relatable, and timely point across to readers. He discusses his thoughts on the differences between the ‘primitive’ mind, and the ‘civilized’ mind... The reason this article resonates so deeply with me, is because it relates to our current culture, and lifestyles in a way that is so obviously correct. I’ll be using this paper to discuss the relation between Strauss’ article, and our lives. Strauss would describe our current minds, as ‘civilized’ minds, as a scientific way of thinking. Strauss says, “It’s a step by step way of thinking, trying to give explanations for very limited phenomena, and then moving on quickly to a new phenomenon.” A kind of thinking focused on numbers, length, things that are able to be measured, like Instagram likes or Facebook comments. Strauss stated, that “We only use enough mental power for what is needed by our profession…” In our lives we do what is needed, and no more. Strauss says what we lack though, is the Savage mind, or a ‘primitive’ way of thinking. A type of thinking focused more on feelings, descriptions, and observations. He says, “We use more mental power, but considerably less of our sensory perceptions.” We’re no longer as aware as we once were, no longer as...

Art History Mueseum Visit

...Lindgren Museum Visit Paper Outer Coffin Of Khonsu 86.1.1 A-B During my visit to the Metropolitan Museum of art I saw many amazing pieces of amazing art. The Egyptian pieces stood out to me in particular because of my new background knowledge that I have acquired from this class. This was my first time at the museum and basically my first time seeing this type of art up close. Seeing images of the art on slides in class or in a textbook doesn’t really do the art justice or show the actual intricacy or detail of the figures. To be honest I don’t know which amazed me more, seeing the massive structures sculpted out of solid stone or the amazingly detailed figurines that were no bigger then two inches. At first I was going to choose a small figurine that was probably smaller then my finger. It amazed me just for the reason that it was so small but when I looked at it closely I was shocked with the detail. It was right there when it really hit me, how amazing these people were to be able to craft such detailed items without the tools that we have today. Everything was made by hand, yet it appeared to come straight out of a factory just by the way it looked. Ultimately I chose the Outer Coffin Of Khonsu for the reason that it appeared so life like and it was preserved so well that it looked like it had just been crafted. Even though a majority of the art in the museum was life like and very impressive, something about this one really caught my eye. I remember...

Great Lakes Art Fair

...Lakes Art Fair For the second art encounter I attended the 2014 Great Lakes Art Fair in Novi, Michigan. It was a short 1 hour drive for a great experience that I will tell my family about for weeks to come. This art fair reminds me of the Black Swamp festival that is in Bowling Green every year. There was art vendors as far as the eye could see. I enjoyed my time there looking at all different kinds of art, from the more contemporary styles, to classical works of art that looked as if they were taken from museum floors. The show consists of 200 artist displays, and includes free access to decorated gardens and a student art display as well. One of my favorite aspects of the festival was just the amount of art there was there. It was interesting seeing artists make pottery by hand, and showing off their tapestries that some of which took years to complete. It was really amazing to see these things, and to see how close and similar their techniques were, as to what we learned in class. Another thing that amazed me at the fair was the glassblowing demonstrators. Glass blowing has always been something that interests me. It was so cool seeing these people take molten globs of glass, and turning them into amazing bowls, vases and abstract works of art. It was really amazing to see some of the tapestries that these artists had worked on. In some cases their designs looked extremely similar to the sample projects that we had just finished. It was really cool to see what they did,...

First Game

...First Game I will be talking about my first baseball game at Angel Stadium. I am writing this paper to share with you my experience being at Angel Stadium for the first time. For my girlfriend and I’s anniversary she surprised me with Angel Tickets! They were playing the Los Angeles Dodgers and I was super happy because it was going to be my first Angel game and it was going to be an intense game! The game was around 6pm but we got there really early so that we could tail gate! I have never really tail gated but that day I felt like I did. It was so fun and everyone was having a good time drinking and listening to music playing small games like bag toss or playing catch with a football! Once we started walking to the stadium I couldn’t help but feel a little bit excited because everyone was so pumped up to beat the dodgers. Along the way to our seats that had so many different banners of the players like Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton and anyone else that was on the team or a retired player of the Angels, but right when I walked through that entrance all I could smell was popcorn, hot dogs, pretzels, anything you could imagine they had! It was like a dream come true and my girlfriend and I being how we are get everything they had. We got kettle corn, ice cream, soda’s, a pretzel, and to top it off a nice pink cotton candy. Once we sat down the game was about to start the first thing I said when the angels were up to bat was bet you Mike Trout hits a home run and she...

My Reading Response to Amazing Grace

...My Reading Response to Amazing Grace Jacqueline Stephens My Reading Response to Amazing Grace The poem I have chosen to respond to is Amazing Grace by John Newton. Giving birth to a child creates a strong bond between a mother and daughter, the emotional bond created between my granddaughter and myself is due to the fact, I had custody of her for the first two and half years of her life and I sang Amazing Grace to her every night before bedtime. She weighted a pound and six ounces when she was born, by the Grace of God she is a thriving six year old. This gives reason for her name, Nevaeh Lee, her first name backwards with her middle name, Heaven Lee. This poem touches my heart on a level no song has ever done. It was a way we spent our special time together. I can feel her little body lying on my chest with her hand clutching my shirt collar. This is the “Intensity of Emotion” (Section 13.4) I feel when I think of those times and wish by some miracle I could experience them again. I can hear her mom calling me on the phone when she had visitation at her at bedtime, asking me, “What does Nevaeh want”. I asked her what is she saying, she replied “mazing”, my heart broke. I told her she needed to be sung Amazing Grace to go to sleep. I feel the tears now. I started singing this to her when she was six months old. That is when she was able to come home from the hospital. I think I sang this to her until she was three and there are times...

Talking While Driving

...talk on the phone and drive they are more likely to get into an accident than someone drinking and driving. The ad that was chosen for this paper is the ad against talking on the phone and driving. This ad had many points to consider when choosing it. They go against women in this ad, even though it based on only one women in the ad. They really depict why it is so bad to talk on the phone and drive and what it can do to you and your family if something bad were to occur because of it. They also show an amazing and eye catching effect of blood within the ad that makes you really focus on it when first seeing it. After reviewing the ad, it has both good and bad features to it. The woman, and only seen person in the ad, is an Indian lady in a kitchen that is reacting to the phone call she just received. The placement of the woman really shocked me. They put her in the kitchen, “where women are supposed to be”. This lit a spark showing how disrespectful ads can be against sex, race, and religion. They did not think about how the ad looked towards women. The saying had a lot to do with that disrespect. They used “he”, as if women cannot drive. They also made it seem as if it was her fault that she called him. Did he call her or did she call him? Did he have to answer his phone? No. They showed it as if it was her fault though, and she called him. This is not a good representation for the ad. They should have chosen a different slogan for the ad, even though they did choose a great...
