Managing your life in order meet the requirements of online learning requires effort, discipline and great time management. Someone taking online classes have to find a balance in their time in order to complete assignments and the other important aspects of their lives. There are several techniques that help in this endeavor.

TIME MANAGEMENT TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES

FOCUS ON GOALS: Establish exactly what you want to accomplish each week. Set a realistic and attainable goal which should be to finish all assignments (Johnson, 2011).

PRIORITIZE: Figure out what is most important to accomplish and do that first. Set priorities for each task and then get them done (Johnson, 2011).

SET ASIDE TIME TO DO SCHOOLWORK: This time should be like an appointment that you can not miss. It will be easier to avoid other things when this time has been set aside. Make sure you set enough time to finish longer tasks. For example a several page paper will need more time to complete (Johnson, 2011).

AVOID WASTING TIME AND DISTRACTIONS: Stay away from activities that waste time and interfere with getting assignments done. Avoid distractions such as television, Facebook, or any other activity that slows down production (Johnson, 2011).

PLAN AHEAD: Do not wait until the last minute to complete assignments in order to do your best and have time to make corrections or changes and meet the deadline for submission (Johnson, 2011).

When you set goals and focus on those goals while avoiding distractions, you will have better control of your own time. This allows you to be better prepared and to have better academic success.

...Traits of Online Learners Christina Kellam ID# L26677261 Discussion Board Forum 2 Final INFT 101 B89 There use to be a time when majority of students would take college courses in a classroom. Now a lot of colleges/universities give the privilege of completing courses at home online. There are more and more students choosing to do online schooling. One of the reasons is due to it being a little bit more flexible with their schedules. What is it that makes online learners successful? Boyd (2004) stated “There may be only certain kinds of students under certain conditions who can successfully learn via the online format” (p. 31). Will only certain students succeed in online courses? I feel that anyone can succeed as long as you have motivation and determination. Taormino (2010) stated in the article “Student awareness of the characteristics, traits, and skills for online learning is an important area of dialogue between the student and learning institution” (p.55). I would have to agree with Taormino about making the students more aware of what all is involved with online courses. I do feel that anyone that is doing work on a computer on a regular basis will improve their skills no matter what their background is within computer skills. Mark Taormino’s article has been summarized with key characteristics along with reflection and application for successful online learning. The first category of characteristics for a successful online learner is Technical Factors...

Assignment are usually given to students to evaluate their level of understanding and degree of comprehension, with the use of this assignment system, student will be able to make submission easily from any place at any time. This system completely eliminates the difficulties face by student and lecturers (staff) in the previous system. With this submission system students can make registration of their academic details, register their courses, view assignment available for submission, make assignment submission, request for a submission extension and finally view the assignment score for particular assignment. The lecturer can generate report, view the uploaded assignment submitted by student and view submitted extension request. The case study of this research work is the department of Mathematics, which is a department in Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto. ...at the time. As a father of two kids and full time employee and student, it is hard to keep up with responsibilities; however, a daily calendar review is very helpful for the organization and time management. Indeed, communication is an important tool to execute tasks and take daily plan to the next level. In online education, students can set their schedule that fit to their personal life and that is a major benefit of online education. Organization, time management, and effective communication are key element to online learning. The first step in organizing anything in one’s life is to develop a personal organization. When one takes the time to organize his or her personal life, all of those other disorganized things that are related seem to start falling right into place. A study about time management shows that time management training led to an increase in perceived control of time and a decrease in perceived stress (Häfner, 2010). One should avoid stressful time to be more productive in online learning. Even though it may seem easy to study on your own; however, online learning more hard work and dedication to complete assignment and participate in online discussions. Online Learning Success

...school. We realize that in order to make a decent living, a degree is most likely a requirement. In some cases even a bachelor’s degree is not enough to qualify for many positions. Nevertheless, thanks to technology, we now have the option to learn online or in a traditional classroom setting. There are very few differences between the two, and students need to understand that as much time and energy will need to be devoted to the online courses as on a campus. “A 2010 meta-analysis and review of online-learning studies concluded that online learning was as good as or slightly more effective than traditional face-to-face instruction” (Mendenhall, 2011). Therefore, there is no question as to whether or not success can be obtained from this nontraditional way of learning. Nevertheless, students who chose to study online should be extremely disciplined. There are many tools that one needs to be successful in school and in every aspect of their life. Of course, some people need different things from others. However, I will point out a few that I feel are very important, and that I will use in my daily life. As an online learner and an administrative assistant, I have found that you should be equipped with great organizational, time management and communication skills in a quest for success. Some people have excellent organization skills, whereas others may struggle with getting organized. It is important that you establish effective organization techniques early on to ensure success...

Online Versus Traditional Education

...Online versus Traditional Education COM/170 March 10, 2014 Teresa Purcell Online versus Traditional Education Most people believe that online education is easy. People believe that students are just sitting in front of the computer; they can switch tabs and enjoy social media, listen to music and speak on the phone while attending their class online. Reality is that online education requires time management, discipline, and the same responsibilities that a traditional education does. Online college and traditional classes require that students have excellent time management. Traditional classes allow students to have the freedom of managing their time differently compared to online students. Online schools have more structured time lines as to when participation must be completed. Online schools and traditional schools measure and grade their students participation and commitment. In traditional classrooms students voluntarily participate in class discussions, students are required to participate for a minimum of three times per class period. Traditional students attend class one day a week and manage their time differently compared to online students. Online students also have a minimum requirement of participation per week, and they are required to attend online forum classes for a minimum of three times a week. Online students are required to participate on discussion boards with other students, with a minimum posting participation of eight times a week. Therefore...

Issue for Modern College Students

...head: ISSUES FOR MODERN COLLEGE STUDENT Issues for Modern College Students Paul J. Matthie Excelsior College Student 1 ISSUES FOR MODERN COLLEGE STUDENT 2 Abstract There are many problems that the modern college student faces. Some of the issues are issues of costs and financial aid, balancing work/school/family, access to technology. When the professor gave the assignment. I got a writer's block. I took my military background, and I found out three issues I think the modern college would have. The first one is time management. Everyone struggles with time management, juggling work with homework. The second one is finical issues. Whenever you start something new you want to know how much is it going to cost and can, I afford it. The third one is access to technology. Yes, I know that at least 75% of the United States have Internet access. What about the students that do not have access? How can do online colleges? Keywords: Time Management Finical Issues Access to Technology ISSUES FOR MODERN COLLEGE STUDENT 3 When I was doing research on the issue for a modern college student, I found that most students are stressed out about time management. "The big myth is it's easier to go online because you can do it at your pace," Popovich says. "You do have more flexibility, but it is not any easier … It is harder because you are on your own; you have your own devices." (Sheehy, 2010 p.1) When you are doing an online course, you have much distraction...
