Time Management and Responsibility
Students with a family and a full-time job have a full plate. “Attending classes, studying, working a part-time job, participating in extra-curricular activities, and finding time for friends, family and yourself can be a hard schedule for college students to balance.” (Guide To Management For Graduate School Students”, 2011) The key to success is to properly manage ones time effectively to help create a balance between personal and educational responsibilities.
For many people, family comes first, and spending time with loved ones is perhaps one of the most important and rewarding obligations they have. It is important to be actively involved in their lives on a daily basis and essential to keep up to date with what is going on in family member’s lives. As a full-time college student, finding a reasonable amount of time for family and friends can become challenging; however, there are some ways the family can contribute that can be beneficial to both the student and the family. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that men and women spend on average between two to three and a half hours a day on household activities, caring for and helping household members, and purchasing goods and services (bls.org). Consider delegating some household responsibilities to the children and spouse/partner. In the textbook Advancing Your Career: Concepts of Professional Nursing, the author makes a great point by stating “the family can provide assistance in practical ways that save you time.” (Curry, 2008) Preparing meals, cleaning the home and running errands are examples of duties that require a sufficient amount of time and attention to complete. They are also perfectly reasonable tasks that can be reassigned to others. Delegating…...

Although there is no actual definition to stress, the best understanding one can have of stress is “a condition or feelings experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize”(Rosch, 2011). We all have different ways of dealing with stress. Some use a long walk, or the gym to get out frustration, which releases endorphins and can alleviate the symptoms of stress. Some step away from the situation that’s causing the stress, and come back to it with a clear mind. Anyway that you can find to alleviate stress will help put things back into perspective and make even the most seemingly impossible tasks become attainable. Raising a Successful College Student

...order to be a successful college student personal responsibility must be learned at an early age. Children must learn personal responsibility, time management skills, and family values when they are young. If children develop a strong responsibility foundation they will develop into a successful college student. Personal responsibility is something that is taught to you throughout your childhood and developed throughout your adult life. A child is taught family values daily from the time they begin to walk. Parents begin to pass on their own values system and this is what a person’s responsibility foundation is built on. In order for a student to be successful in their college career they must already have been taught personal responsibility throughout their childhood. Children should be given household chores at a very young age, like picking up their toys, making their beds, and even feeding the family pet, at this age they are exposed to the family values at its core. Children begin to realize what responsibility is through these chores. Experts believe that any type of household responsibilities, are important for kids (Dunnewind, 2004). Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Erin A. Miller GEN/200 December 4, 2011 Aminah Brelvi Personal Responsibility and College Success It is my belief that the correlation between personal responsibility and college success encompass all areas of my life. Even though teachers are there to teach me, implementing my personal responsibility values will ensure my college success by using solid time management strategies, identifying my goals, and managing my stress. Definition of Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility, to me, means being aware of my commitments, knowing what my resources are to follow through with those commitments, understanding my deficits, exploring ways to better them, and being active with my goal planning. My management of time and stress will be the two biggest hurdles to overcome. When I am considering how best to manage my time, I look at four specific areas: structuring time for my schoolwork, using an effective calendar, scheduling family time, and managing my stress. Dave Ellis(2011), author of Becoming a Master Student, summed it up so well by saying, “Time is an equal opportunity resource. All of us, regardless of gender, race, creed, or national origin, have exactly the same amount of hours in a week. No matter how famous we are, no matter how rich or poor, we get 168 hours to spend each week-no more, no less.” Relationship between Personal Responsibility and College Success The first...

Personal Responsibility

...your personal responsibility to do all you in order to accomplish what you want in life. I believe that if you want something badly enough in your life, you have to work hard and dedicate yourself to your personal responsibilities. Your personal responsibilities involve setting goals and priorities as well as using time management wisely. Part of your personal responsibility is to set goals. You need short term goals as well as long term goals. Then it is up to you to figure out how to accomplish those goals. One of my goals is to pass this class and get this paper written. My responsibility is to make sure that I stay on task. I must not let it overwhelm me. I know that if I don’t succeed at my short term goal, I won’t be able to accomplish my long term goal of being the first in my family to finish college. I, however, am the only one who can do it. No one else can do it for me; so it is my responsibility to see that nothing keeps me from my goals. Another part of your personal responsibility is to set priorities. What is more important to you? An example of this might be making the personal decision to go out and party or stay home, when an important paper is due. Experience has shown that if you dedicate a poor amount of time to a project, your will produce an inferior product. On the other hand, if you devote a good amount of time to a project, then chances are a lot better that you will produce a good product. It is your personal responsibility to......

...Social Responsibility: Toward the Moral Management of Organizational Stakeholders, Business Horizons, July-August 1991 For the better part of 30 years now, corporate executives have struggled with the issue of the firm’s responsibility to its society. It became quickly apparent to everyone, however, that this pursuit of financial gain had to rake place within the laws of the land. Though social activist groups and others throughout the 1960s advocated a broader notion of corporate responsibility, it was not until the significant social legislation of the early 1970s that this message became indelibly clear as a result of the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Consumer Product Safety" Commission (CPSC). These new governmental bodies established that national public policy now officially recognized the environment. employees, and consumers to be significant and legitimate stakeholders of business. Personal Academic Goals

... the three main goals that I have set to assist me in the navigation of my voyage are stress management, time management, and personal responsibility. College students are more stressed out than ever before (Szalavitz, 2011), which is why stress management will be at the forefront thought of every endeavor and evolution while I'm at the University of Phoenix. There is a magnitude of factors in pursuing a college education that contribute to unhealthy levels of stress which may include greater academic demands, increased deadlines, new responsibilities, or even finding yourself in a new diverse environment. Managing these factors is paramount, because when stress becomes overwhelming or we maintain a high level of stress over a prolonged period of time, it can impede on our productivity, alter our moods, affect our relationships, interfere with our quality of life, and most importantly cause a decline in our health. As I anticipate assignment deadlines being the main stressor throughout my academic venture, I will need to ensure that I adhere to adequate time management skills and impose strict time management practices. A stimulating finding of the Macan (1990) study is that the poor allocation of time management increases stress and impairs performance. This statement proposes that if you do not perceive to be in control of your time or have a good attitude towards time management, you will continue to feel stressed and not be able to perform to the maximum capable......

...Louw and Venter (2010:20) explain that strategic management is concerned with the overall effectiveness and choice of direction in a dynamic, complex and ambiguous environment. Strategic management is the deliberate effort to allocate resource and get above average returns through competitive advantage so that in the long run the organisation can generate wealth maximization for its stakeholders. There are a number of advantages of strategic management as stated by Pearce and Robinson (2009:10), it helps reduce resistance to change therefore getting buy in from all stakeholders is critically important. It also results in better decisions because it facilitates group interaction. Group based strategic decisions generate a variety of specialized input which involves all the different areas in the organisation and an in depth range of alternatives and makes it more likely that the best solutions will be chosen. Strategic management enhances the organisation’s ability to prevent problems. It creates a framework through which managers can encourage their staff to focus on planning, monitoring and evaluating the success of these plans. There are also disadvantages of strategic management as Pearce and Robinson (2009:10) identified......

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Shanna Baker GEN200 May 17, 2012 Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is a factor in everything I do in my life. I have to take that personal responsibility when it comes to taking care of my home, my children, as well as myself. Personal responsibility affects many aspects of life and without personal responsibility my life would be chaos. Taking personal responsibility for my education is extremely important because failure is not an option for me. Even though it is sometimes difficult to take personal responsibility, accepting responsibility for my educational goals will help me to succeed in college. The definition of personal responsibility to me simply means that I am accountable for all my activities in my life such as my health, finances, my family, school, and my home. Personal responsibility, in my opinion, is also reflective of my personal ethics. Personal responsibility is extremely important because without taking that responsibility for things in my life that I need to take care of, they will not get done. As a stay at home mom, it is my responsibility to take care of my children and my home because no one else is going to do it. “When you’re willing to assume responsibility for the quality of your education, you can create the future of your dreams.” (Ellis, 2011, p. 10) According to Merriam-Webster (2012), personal means something is done without the interference of another person. “Responsibility is a moral, legal,...
