Imagine you stubbed your toe at the mall and said a couple curse words and got fined and could face months in jail. Is that fair? Well for Timothy Boomer unfortunately that was the case. He was canoeing on a lake in Michigan fell out of the canoe and yelled some curse words. Sadly for him it was in front of a woman and her children which is against the law in Michigan. The law he violated was over 100 years old, The law prohibits people to swear in public in front of children and women. This is not fair and Boomer should not be punished because the law is clearly outdated, and it is freedom of speech and expression.
The law that Boomer is being accused of is clearly so outdated! This law is over 100 years old. Times have changed since then. This …show more content…
(Beasley pg1)’ This is clearly showing he was just wet and tired he wasn't looking around to make sure no children or women were there, he was upset. Do they want police officers to walk around and any time they hear someone cuss and there is a child there they will arrest them? “Can you imagine if we have police starting to go out and arrest people because they swear on the street? (Beasley pg 1)’’ This is showing just how ridiculous the law is if they do it the way they are to Boomer. This is why the law is so outdated and ridiculous. Boomer cussing and being mad was his freedom of expression. The first amendment allows him to use his freedom of expression. Obviously you can’t go into a mall and scream fire or use any fighting words. But Boomer swearing in outrage wasn’t threatening anyone, and when you fall into the water he’s not gonna look around and make sure kids aren't around. Some people may think that it was disgusting he was cursing like that in public, but he was wet and upset. “Boomer’s attorney, William street, infringes on the right to free speech guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S Constitution.(Ware1)” This is

PREFACE Rationale We agreed to produce the instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves...
