| |Part I – Report on Original Travel |
| |Part (A) Identification of the different types of Stakeholders at Original Travel and their contributions and |
| |concerns. |
| |To Nick Newbury |
| |From Tony Andrews 02.05.15 |
| |From reading the article around Original Travel, I have pulled together a list of Stakeholders. I have created list |
| |and also included some insight on the current situation in question and how it might be possible to steer things onto|
| |the correct path. |
| |Original Travel Founders |
| |The 3 Founding members Alastair that Poulain, Nick Newbury & Tom Baber. The primary concern amongst yourself and the |
| |other 2 founders is to ensure financial return is achieved from the business. With this in mind it is worth making |
| |note that all aspects of the business and its progression and interests are communicated amongst all founding |
| |parties. |
| |Customers |
| |The Customer has one major concern. Receiving the highest quality/level of service that is practically possible in |
| |exchange for them investing money into the product being offered. With the likelihood of a merger amongst other |
| |companies mentioned you may find that this would be a suitable option as this then opens up a broader |
| |variation/variety of breaks that the customer can choose from. This can also lead to fresh investment from new |
| |customers. |
| | |
| |Tim Best Travel |
| |This merger come through high interest of how Original Travel operates. However through reading the article it is |
| |clear the concerns are of a similar nature. This being that with the merger taking place will the affect have a |
| |positive or negative impact on both companies clientele? With this in mind clear and concise communication is |
| |required amongst both parties. |
| |Being that the customers’ expectations change very quickly in this sector a merger may be more positive than negative|
| |as being able to offer a more diverse range of holidays and products to your customers is something that may actually|
| |see your primary concern as a stake holder improve. That being financial return. |
| |Part (B) Briefly explain why the STEEP model may be useful for Nick Newbury in understanding the external environment|
| |of the business. |
| |Having read through the article, I believe that you may find the use of the STEEP (Sociological, Technological, |
| |Economic, Environmental, Political) Model (B120, Book1) to be of particular use in order to evaluate the best step |
| |forward. The reasoning for this step in particular is that it will help to identify areas of concern for each |
| |external factor of the model. This can then be utilised as to what the best course of action to take. |
| |Sociological Factors |
| |The current marketing/advertising Strategy used for Original travel of promoting in independent school shows is |
| |targeting a select market. Branching out the advertising strategies to other areas increase the likelihood of a |
| |broader and larger customer base. |
| | |
| |Technological Factors |
| |As the holiday market is an ever increasing and competitive market, (with the likes of internet based holiday |
| |supermarket websites) being able to withstand the competition would be vital. Use of Social media advertising would |
| |be benefit here being that the population of this culture grows evermore. This would solidify the merger with Tim |
| |Best Travel. Ease of use for the website is a must as the population of consumers using the expect a user friendly |
| |service. |

...Part 1 By looking at the psychosocial theory of identity and social identity theory we realize that there is many similarities and differences in how they conceptualise identity. Both theories agree that identity has personal and social aspects. The most noticeable difference is that the psychosocial theory looks at how we achieve our individual identities, whereas Tajfel focuses on how we develop group identities (as cited in Phoenix, 2007, p. 62). Looking at each of the theorists’ biographies shows us how each person’s past has influenced their interests. Erikson’s interest is on core identity and lifelong development whereas the Tajfel’s main interest was on how prejudice is produced through group identity. The two theories have different research methods where Tafel uses an experimental research method to gain objectivity in contrast with Erikson seeking a subjective or insider viewpoint. As a result both theories gather different types of data. We then look at how differently our identities is said to develop in each theory and whether the theories view our identities are fixed or allow for change. Our identity is what makes us unique, it is understood to be our own theory of ourselves and it includes the characteristics and relationships we have with other people (as cited in Phoenix, 2007, p. 47). Erik Erikson (1902-1994) was a psychoanalyst and defined identity as ‘a conscious sense of individual uniqueness, an unconscious striving for continuity and having......

Cleopatra

...Assignment 02 – Reflection on TMA01 Part 1 – Cleopatra OU Identifier: C8215589 Jamie Barber The characterisation of Antony and Cleopatra in this passage is clearly in accordance with the popular Roman opinion of them both at the time of the event and centuries after. Antony’s characterisation can somewhat be seen to be of a more demeaning manner than that of Cleopatra’s, the foreigner who was to blame for Antony’s sinful desertion of his kin and country. When Antony “witnessed this [the desertion of his fleet to Octavian]”, his weakness and cowardice are highlighted by Plutarch, and re-emphasised in his retreat to the city, and his subsequent disrobing of his armour, which ultimately emasculated him. Plutarch’s inference of the first person narratives which allegedly took place detail Antony as recognising himself that he in fact had “less courage than a woman”, and this same statement reduces Cleopatra to a mere woman, in contrast to the revered warhead and queen she had once been. Cleopatra’s betrayal and trickery run as a theme throughout most of the historical representations of her and of the events leading to Antony’s desertion, and are highlighted in this passage by her acts in fleeing to her tomb and betraying Antony once more. Another relevant theme affecting the couple’s characterisation is that of their relationship and the power dynamics within it. Antony is irrevocably influenced by his adoration of Cleopatra, which is clear from his sense of betrayal at her......

...TMA 01 Part 1 Part A Informal report of problems at The Lodge Bistro Chain using concepts from session 2, The External Environment (B120, Book 1). * Growing competition from surrounding food outlets * No healthy alternatives offered * No web based advertisement * Not appealing to the younger generation * No choice of less expensive meals or snacks Part B Using the STEEP model (B120, Book 1) I will highlight the problems at The Lodge Bistro in more detail. Sociological Factors The Bistro chains décor and menu are based on the original café opened in 1989 and are outdated. Although this image could be keeping the trade from your loyal older customers, they tend to visit less frequently and don’t have as much money to spend as mentioned in the case study. To appeal to younger and new customers, I would suggest modernising the appearance and updating the menu. Technological Factors With so many people using the internet it would seem that a website or social media page would be essential for your business to survive and grow. This will help you to reach new consumers and increase profits. Economic Factors With the price of everything rising in the economy, there are a lot of consumers on a budget. A range of lower priced snacks was implemented by one of your managers. If this proved popular I would suggest having a snack menu alongside your main menu. This type of system is popular in pubs and they have benefited from offering god value for money.......

...E108 – Working with Young People | Lisa MarshallTMA01 | C6450235 | October 2013 | Contents Part 1: Exploring an audiovisual case study 3 Part 2: Reflecting on Learning 6 Bibliography 7 Part 1: Exploring an audiovisual case study a) What are Scott and Jean trying to achieve with the icebreakers? Scott and Jean’s Icebreaker activities serve several different purposes, the first of which being to encourage the group to come together as a whole and get to know one another. The initial activity did a fabulous job of encouraging the youngsters to introduce themselves to their peers in a fun and non intimidating way. It ‘broke the ice’ (LGBT Youth Scotland clips 2-6). If the introductions had been done with a greater amount of formality, i.e. with the group sat around a table, the young people probably would not have responded with the same amount of enthusiasm. The laughing and body language demonstrated suggests they were obviously relaxed and at ease with themselves and other members of the group but what they evidently didn’t realise was that the activity was encouraging them to practise how to communicate with each other and also listen to and remember what each other had to say. They were practising active listening. ‘It’s putting skills across, but actually not maybe the young people realising they’re actually starting those skill sets already, right from the beginning’. (LGBT Youth Scotland clips 2-6). Encouraging the young people to work together as a......

Tma02 Drawing on What You Learnt from the Dd10 Module Materials and Your Work on Tma01, Outline Some Examples of Inequality on City Road, Cardiff

...Melanie Jones E5692114 Drawing on what you have learnt from the DD102 module materials and your work on TMA 01, outline some examples of inequality on City Road, Cardiff. In this essay I intend to expand further on my initial observations noted in TMA01, surrounding the concept of inequality and how it manifests on City Road in a manner of ways. TMA01 establishes inequality as “the unequal distribution of valued resources” (Blakeley and Staples 2014, p13). Examples of inequalities arise through wealth, age, class, disability and race. Through my comprehension and observations drawn from the module material I will highlight further examples of inequalities experienced amongst the people living on and utilising City Road. Good start, though I would ask you to avoid using the first person (‘I’). Instead you could say ‘This essay will….’ etc City Road is a vibrant street in Cardiff, housing a variety of businesses and residents, a very diverse population encompassing many international cultures, however this abundance of choice in itself can allow for certain inequalities to form. ‘Making lives on the street’(The Open University, 2016) highlights the restrictions and constraints suffered due to economic inequality, or the simple divide between rich and poor.Traditionally City Road was home to many small thriving businesses, however larger chains like Tesco have moved into the area, threatening trade of the smaller outlets and whilst providing more choice also......
