Today is the day! It is just a little past eight AM. The sun shining bright through my bedroom window wakes me. My family is coming to visit me for the first time since I moved to Jacksonville. This is my first time actually being away and I have missed them more than they know! My mother, younger brother, and sister are on the road to me. We will be making a surprise visit to The Jacksonville Zoo. Now, my younger brother, 10 years old, is one of the biggest animal lovers I know! He is going to have a blast! I cannot wait. So as my family arrives to my apartment, butterflies floating around in my stomach. I cannot stop smiling. They are very excited to see me. I hug them dearly, and welcome them into what I now call “my world,” (my home). Everyone explaining to me the sights they seen on the road, I can tell they were a little surprised, being that we all come from a small city down south where there are not very many attractions! What a beautiful day it is outside. The air is so fresh and the sun is shining bright, with not a cloud in sight. I knew this day was going to be great! As we approach the Jacksonville Zoo signs I look over at my younger brother and I can see his eyes begin to widen. At this point, he is beyond excited, taking his seat belt off, anxious to get out of the car. The sight of The Zoo is extravagating. The shading of the trees creating such a beautiful scenery, the smell of the different types of animals filling the air. With this being my first visit to a Zoo this big, I must admit, at this point I am pretty excited myself. I felt like a kid again. The excitement of Giraffes, Monkeys, Sea Turtles, Elephants, and Snakes took over my mind. My younger brother cannot get enough of wanting to feed the animals. We approach the long neck Giraffes. We are waiting in line to feed them and as you look out there is about five of them in a spacious

Today Is a Good Day

...Three ways out of this difficulty might possibly be suggested by any humble imitator of Mr. Gladstone. First, the early English pirates may have learnt the word _castrum_ (they always used it as a singular) years before they ever came to Britain as settlers at all. For during the long decay of the empire, the corsairs of the flat banks and islets of Sleswick and Friesland made many a light-hearted plundering expedition upon the unlucky coasts of the maritime Roman provinces; and it was to repel their dreaded attacks that the Count of the Saxon Shore was appointed to the charge of the long exposed tract from the fenland of the Wash to the estuary of the Rother in Sussex. On one occasion they even sacked London itself, already the chief trading town of the whole island. During some such excursions, the pirates would be certain to pick up a few Latin words, especially such as related to new objects, unseen in the rude society of their own native heather-clad wastes; and amongst these we may be sure that the great Roman fortresses would rank first and highest in their barbaric eyes. Indeed, modern comparative philologists have shown beyond doubt that a few southern forms of speech had already penetrated to the primitive English marshland by the shores of the Baltic and the mouth of the Elbe before the great exodus of the fifth century; and we know that Roman or Byzantine coins, and other objects belonging to the Mediterranean civilisation, are found abundantly in barrows of the first...

Advancements in the field of science, such as Genetic engineering, has made human life easier. Rats and mice are being used for formulating new cancer drugs by scientists only for the benefit of human beings. Rats, along with mice and rodents, make up more than ninety percent of the animals used in research. There are number of questions raised by animal extremists, such as for what purpose these animals are being exploited? Should we consider the question of ethics and morality while these animals are mistreated for Humans selfish purpose? How should the attitude and practice toward the animal change? An online journal, The Conversation included in its article “Animals in Research: Rats,” such animals were used because humans and rats both are mammal, they have similar structure and functions regarding their body. That is one of the specific reason for why rats are used in medicinal research. Even though this research...

Informative Essay: Today Is Veterans Day

...Today is Veterans Day. Everyone knows this. But one day a year is not enough. Several of my friends are veterans and they are some of the best people I've ever met. They delayed being able to have the things we all want in life (souse, children, materialistic crap that none of us really need) so that the rest of us can safely pursue those things. They accepted the risk of death and of never being able to have those things. They accepted the fact that there would be friends made while in the service and some of those friends would die standing next to them. Veterans give up a lot and risk even more so that we can be happy and safe from people who look to do us harm. One day a year when you remember to be thankful is not enough. You should...

Global Warming Speech

...Today is the day Ladies and Gentleman! We are gathered here today to discuss one of the greatest subjects in the history of mankind! If we don’t act now, the planet as we know it will never be the same. I am here today, to fight for the future, to fight for the coming generations and to fight for our survival! The world as we know it is changing! Today is the day! The day where we will be united as one. Today is the day where we make use of the endless power and intelligence God gave us upon creation. We will work together as a team, regardless of wealth and poverty, black and white, young and old, gay and straight, disabled and not disabled, to save the future of tomorrow! A study, by scientists at the World Health Organization determined that 154,000 people die every year from the effects of global warming. These numbers could almost double by 2020. This is not acceptable! We can’t just close our eyes, and hope for the best. We made this problem, and we are the only ones who can get us back on track. No nation, however large or small, wealthy or poor, can escape the impact of climate change. Rising sea levels threaten every coastline and families are already being forced to flee their homes as climate refugees. More powerful storms and floods threaten every continent. Katrina as well as the tsunami in 2004 was just the beginning. Fellow citizens! Is this really a place for our children to live, to grow up? You and I may not feel the consequences of the climate change...

Back In The Day Analysis

...the phrase “back in the day”. My parents say this phrase all of the time. Especially when me or my brother gets into trouble. For instance, every weekend I either hang out around the house or go out with friends. One time my parents were telling my brother and I about their childhood, saying that every weekend they would clean the house and on Sundays they would go to church. I’m pretty sure every parent has said something about their childhood to their children as a lesson for the child to learn. Child behavior today is worse than it was 20 years ago or back in the day. One reason supporting my opinion statement is new technology and social media. I feel like the new technologies today are devastating the new generation of children. 76% of students say that they use social media 2 hours a day (Hatch 26). In 1996, 70% of parents purchased educational software for children (NAEYC 3). All of the different computers and social medias today weren’t even thought of back in the day....

...Day 1: Had my first day today and it was very interesting. First I had an orientation where we went over general guidelines for interns at Viacom and then we signed some paperwork. Played some icebreaker games and got a crash course in all the entities that Viacom owns such as MTV, MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central, CMT, BET. After I met with JC, one of the research analysts for MTV and I got a tour of where I was working and met fellow employees and met my supervisor Mitchell. I then attended a meeting with the research, programming and creative insight teams where we discussed millennials (people aged 15-30) and their media consumption. We watched clips about certain shows that were going to be aired and whether or not millennials would watch these shows. We also discussed other areas regarding media consumption. Day 2: I arrived early to work to start learning. The more the better in my opinion. I got acclimated at my desk and started learning the basics. I got a crash course in MTV and ratings since I am in intern in the research and strategic insights department. Then I attended a focus group regarding upcoming MTV events and gave input regarding the specific topics. Got acclimated with startrak, the system in which MTV/MTV 2 pulls ratings. Day 3: got acclimated with startrak even more. Learned some of the more difficult tasks associated with it. I learned how to pull the ratings for MTV and checked ratings that my supervisors JC, Cara, and Mitchell create. Basically its just...

...provide concise but insightful interpretations and necessary recommendations deduced from the data (Larson, 2008). Financial Position Summary Appendix I: Daily Seasonal Data * The seasonal data was used as an “ad hoc” journal or daily receipts record to build each of the financial worksheets. Appendix II: Financial Journal The DGLs Financial Journal is the formal recording of five aspects of a transaction that is found in the Daily Seasonal Data: (1) its date, (2) brief description of the transaction, (3) ledger account to be debited and amount, (4) ledger account to be credited and amount, and its (5) cross-reference title for other financial reports. It also includes additional data entries such as the weather condition on that day and number of hours the stand was open to help “flush out” the other factors affecting the DGLs. This approach provides an audit trail and a means of analyzing the effects of daily transactions on DGLs’s financial position. * The DGLs first season Financial Journal reflects the initial foray of the enterprise purchasing the requisite capital equipment (pitchers & spoons) to start the business and the daily consumables (ice, mix, and cups) required to sustain it. Analysis of the journal demonstrates that the debits equals credits reflecting a balanced accounting of transactions during this season. * The DGLS first season...

While little is known of the Western world, specifically the Americas before explorers such as Christopher Columbus discovered it, there exists rich literature of ancient civilizations that have shaped all spheres of modern life. The most recognized civilizations include the Egyptian civilization, the Roman Empire, and the Greek civilization. The fall of one civilization led to the rise of another civilization and so forth. The earliest recorded civilization, however, is the Egyptian civilization and scholars have credited it with influencing the subsequent empires that rose afterward, especially Alexander's the Great Greece Empire...
