...Tommy Douglas was born on October 20, 1904. He was born in Falkirk, Scotland. He died when he was 82 on February 24, 1986. Tommy Douglas is responsible for many of the great benefits we have today. He introduced paved roads, sewage systems and power to most farmers. He somehow managed to reduce the provincial debt by $20 million. He later introduced Saskatchewan residents to car insurance and labour improvement. He is most famous for his long-standing dream of universal Medicare. He supported many and provided hope for the people of Saskatchewan. It was only after his death when he was voted "The Greatest Canadian" in a national CBC Television contest by his advocate George Stromboulopoulos. The Douglas family emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1910. The family then returned to Glasgow, Scotland, during World War I, but came back to settle in Winnipeg in 1919. He was the child of Scottish immigrants. As a youth, Tommy experienced a bone infection in his leg. The doctors recommended he had his leg amputated. His parents had no money for a specialist. This happened not long before a specialist offered to perform a surgery on his leg, as long as his students were able to witness it. This surgery saved his life, and was his inspiration for universally accessible medical care. Tommy John Surgery

...What is Tommy John Surgery? Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Reconstruction, better known as Tommy John Surgery, is a procedure performed on the ligament that connects the bone of the upper arm, the humerus, to a bone in the forearm, the ulna. The UCL is a critical ligament in the elbow, and allows athletes, particularly baseball players, to throw a baseball at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour (MPH). A baseball player named Tommy John, a pitcher who played from 1963 to 1989, was the first person to ever have UCL reconstruction surgery. Due to the fact that John was the first player to be operated on, the surgery bears his namesake. Who was Tommy John? Tommy John was a professional baseball player that pitched for 7 different teams during his 26-year career. John injured his left pitching elbow during a game on July 17, 1974. He threw a pitch, as he had done many times before, and felt a sharp pain in his elbow upon releasing the ball. John was removed from the game, and was evaluated by the Los Angeles Dodgers team doctor, Dr. Frank Jobe. Jobe informed Tommy John that if he did not have surgery, his career would be over. The surgery had never yet been performed before Tommy John was injured. After months of evaluation and deliberation, John agreed to the surgery. On September 25, 1974, Tommy John became the first man to receive the experimental surgery. How is the surgery performed? Dr. Jobe decided to take a tendon from somewhere else in the body, ideally the...

Tommy John Surgery

...Tommy John Surgery is where the Ulnar Collateral Nerve in the elbow goes under reconstruction and realignment in order to re-improve the functionality of the elbow. Tommy John is the most common injury involved with baseball and more than 530 pitchers in the major and minor league have had the surgery performed. I used to believe in arm care but never put forth the effort until I had to have Tommy John Surgery, now I take care of my arm after games and practice so I can prevent another surgery. 60 percent of Tommy John Surgeries come between the age range of 15-19. I was 15 years old, the first time I consistently started having elbow pain. I realized I was being overused, pitching too much and not getting as much of a break in between games pitched as required. I didn’t think too much of it; I thought the surgery would never happen to me. As the games rolled by I continued to put stress on it by throwing more and resting less. As my body was physically developing, my elbow wasn’t. 83 percent of surgery go’ers turn out to be successful if not more successful than what they already were prior to surgery. June 4th, 2014, two years after the initial pain in my arm began was the day I went under the knife. The surgery only allowed for me to play eight games during my junior year of high school. From here on out I had to work so hard to get back to normal, and than more so I could be better than I was. Rehab was twice a week for 2 hours every day; the exercises were repetitive...

Greatest Canadian of the Twentieth Century

...Twentieth Century? Thomas Clement Douglas was born on October 20, 1904 in Falkirk, Scotland. He was often called Tommy. He and his family immigrated to Canada in 1911. They settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba. When Tommy was 10, he had a bone infection in his leg, osteomyelitis, which needed many operations. None of the operations helped him and his family could not afford to send him to a special doctor. He was extremely fortunate when a visiting surgeon volunteered to operate on him for free. He was also a minister and a politician. Tommy Douglas is the greatest Canadian due to the fact he achieved Medicare, became the first national leader of the NDP and fought for social programs even in the presence of strong oppositions. Tommy Douglas learnt from the experience of his sickness the importance of doctors. The sickness and how he was saved was his inspiration for the Medicare. He wanted everyone to receive the Medicare they needed, even if they did not have a great deal of money. During one of his speeches as a politician, he said, I came to believe that health services ought not to have a price-tag on them, and that people should be able to get whatever health services they required irrespective of their individual capacity to pay. This inspired him to work hard so as to make health care available to all Canadians at no cost. In 1959, Tommy announced the plan to establish a medical insurance called Medicare. He faced strong oppositions from Saskatchewan......

...speakers reveals the environment”Svamp-buck got away from, the chain gang yes-tidy (P.4, Line 32)”, and the fact that it is “normal” to shoot a black person, tells us that it is not happening in modern times. Tommy goes hunting in the woods, which is where the action starts. Later it moves on to the bar, where his father is telling his friends about, how brave his son was. In the beginning his father describes the forest particular, the beautiful colors, fresh stream etc. When Tommy is standing there, ready to kill, it is like everything is described in details, and I think it is because it is an important place in the text. The weather and environment reflects to the characters feelings. The sun is shining, when Tommy is waiting the woods, but when he is about to shoot the black man, the sun gets duller and there is a dead silence. I think it is probably because he is scared and nervous. In the end when they are all sitting in the bar, and Tommy is happy, because he is finally one of them, the Mississippi sunshine is mentioned Characters The first persons we are introduced to, is Tommy Grimes and his father Tom. Tommy is a white boy, and I think he is probably 12 years old “Soon they would be calling him Tim Grimes like his father (P.3, Line 6-7)”. It seems like Tommy has a beautiful point of view on life, but his father “brainwashes” him. He wants to grow up and become a real man, just like his father, so he can hang out with him and his friends at the bar. I do not......

My Life Story

...When I look at pictures of myself as a young child, I remember when life was simple, and all that mattered to me was watching the Rugrats or Spongebob. As a baby, many people would say I looked Like Tommy Pickles. As I grew a bit older, I began to change, not only physically, but mentally and ethically. I began to learn my how things progressed and learned about the many new rules of life. An important one at the time was washing your hands every time you use the bathroom and brush your teeth each night before you go to bed. I also had many priorities at my age in that point of my life. A very important one was watching the newest episode of Pokemon each Saturday morning or beating that next level in any game on my Game Boy. But now as I see myself growing older, my priorities have shifted in a different direction. I now have to constantly update my status on the social networking site known as Facebook or check my Iphone for that text message from my closest friends. Time progressed and as I grew, I began to think about my past, present, and future. I remember my childhood, and live my life in the present, always moving forward. But thinking about my future is something that was a bit challenging to me. I began to ask my self many questions like “What’s going to happen in a few years? Where will I be? What will I be doing?”. As time went on, would look in the mirror, and I’d ask my self who I see. I see the person I am now. I see the 17 year old young man, who is preparing......

Tommy O'Connell

...Tommy O’Connell, Audit Senior An audit senior and staff accountant have some similar and different roles when it comes to an audit. The staff accountant does most of the “leg work” in an audit such as gathering invoices and compiling everything needed for an audit. An audit senior is one that will review the compiled documents and ensure that the work done by the staff accountant is done properly. The two have a similarity, though, were they both have to audit specific things such as accounts during the audit. However, the audit senior is typically assigned the more difficult accounts as they are known to be more competent and able to review the accounts better. In my opinion, I believe that the staff accountant role is more important because they are reliable for getting the bulk of the work done during the early stages of the audit. If these are not done timely and effectively, then the firm is likely to go over budget on their audits and would not be able to take on many clients. On the other hand, the audit senior position is more stressful because they are the ones who have to double check the work of the staff accountants and still do audit work such as auditing complex accounts. If I was Tommy, I would bring it up casually to the person who just told me that Carl would be assigned with me on the audit that I have heard that he is likely not a good fit for this type of audit because there are many complex......

...The movie is about a young guy Benjamin Braddock, who just graduated college. Now he doesn’t know what he wants to do next. He is feeling pressured by his parents, because they want him to continue studying, and he doesn’t want to continue school. He is seduced by one of his parent’s friends Mrs. Robinson an older lady. He is very hesitant and resist it, but then suddenly starts an affair with her, and things get a little messed up when he falls in love with her daughter Elaine. I really liked the acting, Dustin Hoffmann, is an excellent actor. He did a really good job portraying his character. I also really liked Benjamin Braddock’s character, a very polite, well-mannered, behaved young guy who is confused about life. The acting was really great; all the actors really did a good job portraying their character, even the small roles. Also I really liked the soundtrack of the movie, the music in background really matched the movies and the story. It gave the movie nice feeling, as if you were there yourself. I really like how the movie was surrounded in a rich environment. Because we know that college in America is extremely expensive, and people save up all their life just to attend college, when rich people they easily can. It somehow shows that school isn’t the answer to a good life and money can’t buy happiness. This is an older movie from the 60’s so the film quality isn’t the best, but the camerawork is very good. I didn’t like the story; I was expecting......
