Legend of Sinukuan

...Sinukuan: More than Just a Legend The Filipinos are richly endowed with a creative imagination. A perfect manifestation of this is the existence our rich ethnic literature, ranging from folk speeches and songs to narratives. In almost every province, there are native epics and legends. In recent accounts, according to National Artist Virgilio S. Almario, there are 28 documented Filipino epics. Biag ni Lam-ang of the Ilocanos, Alim and the Hudhuds of the Ifugaos, the Diawot in Mansaka, Guman Dumalinao of the Suban-ons are just few examples of these epics. As for legends, we have the Legend of Mt. Mayon, the Legend of the Banana, The Legend of the Pineapple, The Legend of the Makahiya, the Legend of the Frog among others. Ancient Filipinos search for explanations for natural phenomena and their closely knit relations with nature have ignited their imaginations and led them to create legends. The Kapampangans are a perfect example of this. Mount Arayat, a mountain located in a town in Pampanga with the same name has aroused the imagination of ancient Kapampangans to create the legend of Sinukuan. Mount Arayat, also known as Mount Sinucuan of Arayat, is a dormant volcano whose last eruption dates back some 500,000 years ago. According to the theory of Fray Martin de Zuniga, this mountain which is visible from Manila Bay, was created by a giant whirlpool at the beginning of time. Old Kapampangan folklore says that it used to be located in the present site of the Candaba...

The Genius That Is Da Vinci & Michelangelo

...Appreciation Instructor: Todd Leisek October 15, 2012 Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti were two of the most famous and talented artists of their time. Born only 20 years apart, their artistic styles and interpretation had a similar focus, much of which was thought of as a reflection of their tortured and troubled minds. Michelangelo was intrigued with the precision of the human form and sought perfection of such in his work. Leonardo da Vinci saw a strong, continuous connection between art and science, and many of his works were explanations and findings of many such experiments. Michelangelo and da Vinci were both ground-breaking, pioneering artistic giants and innovators. Through their use of brilliant color, influential and powerful imagery, and their unusual ways of creating complexity in their work, they established themselves as two of the worlds’ greatest artistic geniuses. Although their artwork and forms were quite different, they shared many similar commonalties. For example, both da Vinci and Michelangelo attained much of their inspiration from passages in the bible. They were also both also extremely eccentric and seemingly tormented men who were also very misunderstood and underestimated during their time. It was also believed that both repressed their homosexuality. Both famous men have gone on to live eternally through their ageless and remarkably, breathtaking works of art (Austin, 2008). Leonardo da Vinci’s study of anatomy what was led him to...

This Revolt was caused by losing Sulayman and Lakan Dula's kingdom when they were defeated by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi to accept the Spanish sovereignty on the promise that they would be well-treated by the Spaniards and would still retain some of their royal and political powers. When Governor General Lavezaris replaced Legazpi, he revoked their exemptions from paying tribute and confiscated their lands. Angered by the broken Spanish promise, Lakan Dula and Sulayman rallied their warriors to overthrow Spanish rule. Lavezaris sent Father Geronimo Martin and Capt. Juan de Salcedo to convince Lakan Dula and Sulayman to abort the revolt and promised to grant their privileges. Bipolar Disorder (Types I & Ii)

...Bipolar Disorder (Types I & II) – A General Overview Clinical Procedures (MEA1206C) Rhonda M. Wellde Keiser University Melbourne, Florida September 18th, 2012 I decided to write this month’s written report on Bipolar Disorder, as my mother was diagnosed with Bipolar 1 when I was a child. My family fought through the many challenges and fears that came with seeing someone you love battle what she called “demons” in her head. We constantly had to adjust to her moods, check to make sure she was taking her prescribed medications, and at times, we even fought to keep her alive and well. Today, I have a great interest in Mental Health and because this disorder has had such an impact on my life, I want to share with you some facts and information about this serious brain illness. Bipolar disorder (also known as manic depression) is a treatable psychological illness marked by extreme changes in mood, thought, energy, and behavior. The lifelong prevalence of bipolar disorder in the United States has been noted to range from 1% to 1.6% of the population over the age of 18 in any given year. It affects both men and women at the same rate with the average onset age being in the early to mid-twenties (Calabrese, JR. Overview of patient care issues and treatment in bipolar spectrum and bipolar II disorder. J Clin Psychiatry, June 2008; 69(6):e18). People with bipolar disorder talk about experiencing “highs” (mania) and “lows” (depression); these mood swings can be severe...

Andres Bonifacio Reaction Paper

...cornerstones: the narrative, the milieu, the setting and the characters. Poetry, on the other hand, more than the façade and the flourishes, provides the requisite subtlety in the execution, the minute gestures that accentuate a character, that last five seconds of absolute silence before a cut, the symbols, the verses, the rhymes, and rhythms. This is purely hypothetical. But if films are judged based on a balance where theatricality is measured with poetry, and the former outweighs the latter by a large margin, does it mean that the film is better off staged than filmed? Of course, cinema, contrary to common misconception, is vaster than the trite and absolutely baseless hypothesis that was just forwarded. For that reason, cinema should and cannot be caged to what is merely “cinematic” because the term “cinematic” itself is already enigmatic, subjective in its very definition and has something more to do with how the recorded moving pictures are treated and utilized to express rather than how these pictures are moved and later on recorded. That being said, for all the accusations of supposed theatricality, Mario O’Hara’s flawed yet masterful Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio (The Trial of Andres Bonifacio) is truly cinematic, probably the most important . Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio starts off after the Tejeros Convention where Andres Bonifacio, a commoner from Tondo who is the founder and regarded father of the Philippine Revolution, has lost the presidency of the...
