Knowledge engineering and new leadership approaches are at the forefront of trends in business intelligence and human capital. Some of these business trends are sources of good business opportunities; others are trends we need to incorporate into our small business practices to stay competitive and keep or grow our market share. (Business Trends That Will Drive Success, 2015) Rise of the Phone App This business trend is consumer-driven and closely related to mobile computing. Business-wise, phone apps are replacing everything from mileage log books through credit card readers. An iPhone app called Square, for example, lets you accept credit card payments by plugging a card reader into your iPhone. Business can benefit from this business trend by using phone apps to eliminate some of your other office equipment and supplies. You might also benefit by creating and selling your own phone app. The Amazon App is an (in)famous example of a shopping app; it scans bar codes and comparison shops, letting customers know if they can get a better deal through Amazon's website or not. (A Top Ten for Business Leaders, 2015) Banking and Finance Finance models have also undergone change in 2015. Sector Trend Analysis

...Manufacturing Sector Trend Analysis My assignment was to analyze the current state of the manufacturing sector in the United States, paying particular attention to trends in productivity, competitiveness, and employment. What I learned was a bit surprising and alarming, though, only if said trends continue. With regard to productivity, in an article released by the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation, productivity in the manufacturing sector declined by 0.1% in Q3 2013, as hours worked increased by 1.2%. That said, productivity in durable goods increased 1.1% and decreased 1% in nondurable goods. It was the area of competitiveness that was most interesting to me. According to a 2013 report released by Deloitte, evaluating global manufacturing competitiveness, the United States did not hold the top position. As was described in that article, of the top ten countries, five are developed nations whereas five are developing nations and yet, in five years, three developing nations will likely occupy position #2 and #3 respectively. The article points to “talent-driven innovation” as the key component to a nations competitiveness. In fact, the Deloitte article goes on to state: “Talent-driven innovation is deemed the most critical driver of a nation’s competitiveness. Catapulting into the second most important driver position is the economic, trade, financial, and tax system of a nation.” (Deloitte 2013) Current competitiveness |   | Competitiveness...

Consumer Behaviour Trends

...Consumer Behavior Trends Faith Popcorn identified 17 trends that drove the business and people’s life in her book “Clicking” ten years ago. According to BrainReserve, trends are not fads. They endure, evolve and represent underlying forces, first causes, basic human needs, attitudes and aspirations. They help us navigate the world, understand what's happening and why, and prepare for what is yet to come. This paper will investigate one of the trends Popcorn has identified – Fantasy Adventure – particularly focus on its development in the last ten years. I will examine related evidence observed in various industries and make the claim that this trend has not declined but further developed. Fantasy Adventure refers to the behavior that consumer crave excitement and stimulation as an escape from stress and boredom in essentially risk-free adventures.(Popcorn, 1998) The excitement are taken in small doses, and allow us to return to our “normal” life at the end of the day. They make us feel courageous, open to new exotic experience, and most important of all, they give us the sense of transforming to a better person. There are three underlying forces in creating this trend: the increasing stress brought to us by our routine yet increasingly competitive life, the rising number of cases of the unsafe, uncertain events happening around our environment and the advancement of technologies. In the 1990s only 40% percentage Canadians reported stress in workplace but the statistic...

This development is being very strongly influenced by Africa. Africa is the region with the by far most important production, accounting for 63% of global production. Charcoal production boosted in Africa by almost 30% since 2004, extended Africa’s global lead (see Table 1). The region of Latin America and the Caribbean shows an opposite trend compared to Africa. Charcoal production decreased to 8.8 million metric tonnes which is a reduction by almost 30% since 2004. Latin America and Caribbean production is now close to the Asian production of 7.4 million metric tonnes. However, this development of charcoal production in Latin America and the Caribbean was strongly influenced by the data reported by Brazil. Brazil is the biggest single charcoal producing country in the world (see Figure 2), and its production accounts for 47% of the charcoal production in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2009. Charcoal production in Brazil is only reported for the production of pig iron. In the wake of the economic downturn, production decreased from 8.4 million metric tonnes in 2008 to 5.1 million metric tonnes in 2009 (see Table 1). Latest national data, which are not yet...

Facebook has the highest penetration among the top social media entities” (Cohen, 2013). Through Facebook, people are able to not only set up personal profiles but also post reviews and recommendations about businesses that can be viewed all over the world. This is a huge tool that essential works like word-of-mouth, but electronically. To be competitive businesses are setting up additional advertising here to help bolster crowds which frequent this site. The other social trend I found interesting was of the use of twitter which is essentially a site that streams blasts and updates continually for people that a user chooses to follow. As businesses have seen the power of Facebook, they have also jumped on this new trend so consumers can follow a not only people like celebrities, but also businesses and get the most up to date news at the touch of a finger. The last social trend that seems to be quite prevalent is the use of spam mail.
