Topic Reflection: Diane Lewis

I am always amazed by the strength these women encompass as they discuss the tragic events that led to the death of their loved one. Although I do realize that Diane is in a place in her bereavement where she could recall her story without emotional breaking down, I still feel like a person has to overcome so many obstacles before they get there which takes a substantial amount of strength and resilience. Further, Diane was able to provide great tips not just as a survivor of a great loss but also as a hospice provider, which I felt, was very valuable to a future clinician such as myself.
Diane discussed having her clients sit in the guilt and their current emotions, as she says this could be helpful in certain situations. This was so powerful because many times I find myself wanting to move my clients from this guilt space into a more forgiving and peaceful state of mind. I never thought that sitting in this guilt space with them as they navigate towards the next stage in their grief could be helpful because at times it can be very uncomfortable. Further, she discussed how she found peace, which was also a pivotal point in her discussion speech for me. When Diane stated that her current self, had to give her prior self, grace for the things that had happened, something clicked inside of me. Many times, especially in situations such as hers, we tend to really tear ourselves down about things that we can’t change or have no control over. I thought that it was so huge for her to give herself grace as the Lord had done so already. To continue, Diane also spoke to how the relationships within her family had also altered due to the death of Dane. I could relate to how Diane and her family had functioned because it seemed very similar to mine. Within my own family we rarely express…...

The thesis statement for this is to improve the quality of meals keeping in mind nutrition standards that has been served in public schools. School meals should include fruits and vegetables foods rich in whole grains in their menu. • Explain the reason for selecting topic two, identify the audience, and provide a preliminary thesis statement. The second topic I chose is “Should children of parents who do not allow them to be vaccinated be allowed to attend public school". My audience is parents of children who are attending public schools. All vaccines are regulated by US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for safety and effectiveness. Children’s’ who are not vaccinated are prone to serious illness and can cause health risk to other children’s who are vaccinated. Therefore, children who are not vaccinated should not be allowed to attend the public school. The thesis statement for this is that vaccination is safe and prevents illness, including rubella, diphtheria, and whooping cough and all children’s should be vaccinated. • Explain the reason for selecting topic three,......

...Jesus Claims to be God/ Character Development Tamar Brown Theology 104 I. Introduction In the following paper I will discuss the various thoughts and ideas that have been presented thus far in Theology 104. During the course of this class a variety of topics were discussed which in turn gave me a clearer understanding of what it means to be a Christian, about Jesus, as well as a better understanding of the bible itself. In the following I will address two topics for which I feel are imperative to any Christian and to the life thereof. In the first portion I be touch on the subject of Jesus’s claims to be God. I understand this to be the topic of many discussions and disputes among those in religious circles and abroad. In the second portion I will discuss character development. II. Did Jesus claim to be God? a) Explanation of the topic/doctrine We will find that Jesus did in fact make claims to not only being the son of God but, to be God in the form of human flesh. I believe that the most compelling evidence or support to this claim is not so much in what Jesus said about his deity or divinity but, rather in what He did as he walked among men. Jesus has made claims to His divinity, but the proof of His divinity was more in His actions and not in His words. I believe that this speaks clearly concerning our own nature as well as God’s desire to relate to mankind, as sinful human beings. b) Scriptural basis There are many people that question if Jesus every......

...Leroy Thomas HIS 211 Topic A Jimmy Hampton June 2, 2014 Jonathan Edwards evoked vivid, terrifying images of the utter corruption of human nature and the terrors awaiting the unrepentant in hell. Jonathan Edwards’s famous description of the sinner as a loathsome spider suspended by a slender thread over a pit of seething brimstone in his best known sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.”(1741) The First Great Awakening also gained impetus from the wide-ranging American travels of an English preacher, George Whitefield. Although Whitefield had been ordained as a minister in the Church of England, he later allied with other Anglican clergymen who shared his evangelical bent, most notably John and Charles Wesley. Together they led a movement to reform the Church of England (much as the Puritans had attempted earlier to reform that church) which resulted in the founding of the Methodist Church late in the eighteenth century. During his several trips across the Atlantic after 1739, Whitefield preached everywhere in the American colonies, often drawing audiences so large that he was obliged to preach outdoors. What Whitefield preached was nothing more than what other Calvinists had been proclaiming for centuries that sinful men and women were totally dependent for salvation on the mercy of a pure, all-powerful God. But Whitefield and many American preachers who eagerly imitated his style presented that message in novel ways. Gesturing dramatically, sometimes......

...Brandon C. Strickland Theology 104-D03 Reflection Paper Introduction Through my research, study and prayer while progressing in the course Theology 104, I have gained knowledge and learned new principles that have helped change my understanding of what it means to be a Christian. One of the main topics that I read about in this course that really had an impact on my beliefs as a Christian, and reinforced my relationship with God was the fulfillment of prophecy that is seen throughout the Bible. A second topic that was addressed in this course was dealing with the assurance of salvation that God gives Christians in the Scripture that assists them with their daily struggles in life. These two topics together have stood out to me and have led me to further my study and research. Fulfillment of Prophecy The topic of fulfillment of prophecy is very important in a Christian’s life due to it proving that God is real and the Bible is truly his Word. These prophecies given to the authors of the Bible by God came sometimes hundreds of years prior to their fulfillment. It was necessary that these occurrences be fulfilled due to it providing further proof that the Bible is the Word of God and also to show God’s plan being fulfilled. There are numerous prophecies throughout the Bible that have been fulfilled as well as prophecies that have yet to be fulfilled. The birth of Jesus Christ was prophesized by Isaiah hundreds of years prior to the birth. In Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah......

...The topic I would like to choose is about auto industry, in recent years, cars had played a vital role in people’s everyday life, and it makes life much more easier than ever before. With the rise of gas price, people are more and more concern about what type of energy they will use after using up gas? How long can we use before exhaustion of resources. Second, what exactly is new energy, how many types of energy are there can be used on vehicles, is new energy expensive, and the process of what’s the rate of process. Finally, I would like to know what would be the future operation strategies for large auto companies like Toyota, Benz, BMW, etc. I think this paper will be as long as 5 to 7 pages, I will first focus on current auto industry state, how much fuel we use everyday, and raise up to future auto industry, relating with future car technology, site the resources which I found on Wall street Journal and give my own analysis. This will help the writer to keep his/her work fair and avoid plagiarism. Discussion #2:  What process have you employed or expect to employ to ensure your reference list is accurate and complete?  I have been using the college library database to use only peer reviewed journals and articles to support my work. After retrieving the required journals I am filtering them to make sure that the work I am referring to is helpful to support my topic or not. ...innate or just part of general cognition? The specific way that we acquire language is a contentious debate in the field of linguistics. Some researchers believe that humans are born with an innate, specialized mental module which facilitates the acquisition of language in young children. Other researchers believe that language acquisition occurs through general cognitive capabilities that are not necessarily language-specific. For this topic, you may either a) Choose a position in this debate and defend your position, or b) based on your research into these two sides, discuss what type of argument or evidence would be required to settle this debate in favour of either side. Whichever approach you choose, make sure to focus on specific types of evidence, whether they are phonological, syntactic, or otherwise, and how that evidence bears on the larger question. ...Topic 1: What career would you like to choose after leaving school Model answer: Today, it is not easy to choose a career. Hundreds of students pass various examinations every year and compete with one another for positions in the various professions which are not so many as there are applicants. I would, however, like to choose teaching as my career. Teaching is an interesting career for several reasons. As a teacher I can learn many things, especially if I teach to an udder-secondary school. If I teach History or English, for example, I have to read many books to make my teaching lessons more interesting to my pupils. Thus, I can acquire more knowledge of the subjects that I teach than what I can learn from the class text books. It is indeed a fact that a teacher learns a lot from the class text books; but that is hardly enough to make the teacher's lessons interesting to pupils. A good teacher must therefore read many other books. Again, as a teacher, I have to speak well so that my pupils will be able to understand my instructions well. In this way I can improve my powers of expression. Even my pronunciation of words will improve to great extent. Further, as a teacher, I shall have enough leisure to read and prepare for various examinations. It is possible today to sit for many important examinations by studying entirely at home. Thus, I can acquire important qualifications. Finally, as a teacher I will be respected as an educated person. People will......

Reflections

...Team A - Weekly Reflection Weekly Reflection This week in our class discussions, one topic in particular that is important is discrimination and how it is used in hiring practices. Because of legislation that has been passed, companies are now required to follow hiring practices that are supposed to eliminate most discrimination. However, even though companies are required to not discriminate it still does take place. When posting a new job announcement, some companies will manipulate the wording in the announcement so that only a specific individual can qualify for that job. As long as there is no mention of specific discrimination in the announcement, this is one way around the discrimination laws for hiring. Another topic in the discrimination field of employment is how technology allows for more discrimination than ever before. Because of the internet and information being solicited employers can find out any information about a potential candidate without even speaking to him or her. Employers can find out about race, gender, religion, national origin, and color by clicking a button on a computer. This new technology takes away the one on one interaction between an employer and a potential employee. The reverse side to the equation is the internet has allowed potential employees to flood employers with resumes. If an employer posts a job on www.monster.com, the company will receive thousands of resumes. It is impossible for the employers to meet with everyone......
