Trade Paper

...International Trade International Trade Learning Team C November 15, 2010 ECO/212 Nancy Irizarry INTERNATIONAL TRADE International trade is very important to a global economy. When countries can trade products and services that they produce with other nations without obstacles, it creates a robust economy for those exporting and importing their products and services. However, there has to be a balance between the nations to prevent protectionism, isolationism and high tariffs on imports, which can lead to trade wars. The debate over free trade and tariffs is a very complicated process as evident with the creation of the World Trade Organization (WTO). “The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. The goal is to help producers of goods and services, exporters, and importers conduct their business” (WTO, 2010, p.1) Free trade has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages and disadvantages depends on the frame of thought regarding trade. Within the simulation for international trade, one such advantage was the ability of a country to have a comparative advantage over another . When speaking in terms of a comparative advantage, its referring to a nations ability to produce a product or service at a lower price than another nation. Producing a product or service at a lower cost is the foundation of international trade. All countries who trade have the comparative...

Stock Market Simulation

...Abstract Using the internet and all that’s available on the web today, an eight week stock simulation was conducted to investigate the effects of different trading strategies on outcome of investments in the stock market. The knowledge and experience received from this project would be helpful for people to become better investors in future real-life investments. 5    Chapter 1: Introduction 1.1 Goals of the Project: The main goal of this project is to learn about the stock market through practice with a short-term and long-term stock market simulation. I will start short-term trading with 10 stocks that I selected over the first few weeks. I have also selected 2 stocks which will I will trade in a long-term method over the next 8-week period. After investing in the selected stocks, I will be able to analyze the simulation and make conclusions based on my performance. I am beginning with $200,000, and then will scope over my profits and losses to understand which methods work best. Starting in Chapter 1, I will explain the history of the stock market and who is involved with it. In the following chapters I will show my results of the simulation and discuss them. I will conclude the simulation in the final chapter, which will cover all results and what I learned during the 8-week period. 1.2 History of the Stock Market: The stock market is a trading place where bonds and stocks can be traded, usually to gain some type of income. Basically, a stock is a piece of...

Goood Question

...risks in project early phase Authors: Alquier A.M. Cagno E. Caron F. Leopoulos V. Ridao M.A. Abstract During the early “conceptual” phase of a project life-cycle – considering for instance a competitive bidding process when a request for bidding has been received by an engineering & contracting company and the decision to bid has been made – the main objective of the proposal manager is to achieve an effective trade-off between the bid competitive value on the side of the client expectations and the project baseline in term of time/ cost / performance constraints on the side of the utilisation of the internal resources. Since project final performance depends primarily on risk analysis and management, a “risk driven approach” to Project Management appears to be necessary, particularly during the project early phase when only scarce information is available and contractual obligations are to be taken. In this context, both “internal” risk (e.g. probability of cost overrun) and “external” risk (e.g. probability of winning) must be taken into account. The paper presents the PRIMA (Project RIsk Management - IST-1999-10193) research project aiming at implementing such a “risk driven approach” to Project Management through the development of a Risk Management Corporate Memory and a Decision Support System allowing for collecting, storing, sharing, using company knowledge both in terms of data records and experts knowledge in order to improve the company capability of project......

In addition to the usual PERT and CPM networks, Gantt charts, etc., the subject of project uncertainty and risk management is also discussed. The use of computer simulation and Crystal Ball to generate the approximate distribution of project completion times to help better understand the implications associated with schedule uncertainty is also discussed. Cases and Readings A case appropriate to the subject of this chapter is: Harvard: 9-613-021 Arrow Diagramming Exercise This 3-page case describes the marketing campaign for a newly developed industrial hardware item. Over two-dozen activities are noted and described. The case asks for the network diagram and critical path. A reading appropriate to the subject of this chapter is: L.P. Leach. Critical Chain Project Management Improves Project Performance (Project Management Journal, June 1999, p. 39-51). This article explains the procedures developed by E. ...investors on. The Stock-Trac Simulation was a great educational tool which gives beginners in the online trading world basic knowledge and tools to help succeed in the “world’s largest casino”. Today’s world is globalized and what makes a smart investor is someone who knows all about the different and diverse markets and companies of the world. For this assignment we had to invest in different companies and exchanges from all around the globe. Since we were new to investing, this project seemed to be a little overwhelming at first glance and we knew we needed some assistance in researching domestic and international markets. By using Yahoo Finance and Google Finance, we got the help and resources needed to create a diversified portfolio investing in bonds, futures, and stocks. Everyday as we would do our research on certain stocks and other investments, we continued to notice frightening downward trends in world exchanges from NYSE to Shanghai Stock Exchange. We knew before we began trading that there was high volatility in today’s market and it seemed to be causing unpredictable changes in price. These trends were causing havoc on the markets and many companies ending up going bankrupt or were on their last life line. Since this was a short term investing project, this current market would force us to try and use different type of strategies such as fundamental analysis, technical analysis and top-down and bottom-up strategies. Before we began the simulation we knew the time......
