Traditional classes are more common in todays society, but the popularity of online classes are changing some people's thoughts on an online class environment. Even though traditional classes are more common than online classes what are the similarities and the differences between the two.

Taking courses over the internet is a convenient way of completing coursework at a college or university from the comfort of your home. Although you do not attend classes on a physical campus, there are, in fact, many similarities between online classes and traditional classes. Therefore, when considering whether to complete coursework online or in a traditional setting, take these similarities and differences into consideration.

One of the things that people ask about most is assignments. Whether you choose to attend classes online or in a traditional physical setting, you will be assigned homework to complete. Like traditional courses, expect to do a series of reading and writing assignments relevant to the course you are enrolled in. Other assignment possibilities include watching documentaries or relevant movies that your instructor adds to the course's lesson plan.

Another similarity between online and traditional courses is the requirement that you use course text books to prepare for your reading and writing assignments. Even though a course may be taken online, text books are still central to learning relevant information. Some courses, however, may allow you to purchase the material in an e-book format, which is an electronic book. Whether you buy the material as an e-book or as a hardcover book, you will have to learn and retain the material.

Communication with instructor's is a commonly asked question. Academic instructors make themselves available to students to help them learn the required material. Whether you are attending school online or on campus,...

...University of Phoenix Material Thesis Statement and Outline What is your thesis statement? Online education allow students to learn at his or her time and availability, while traditional education make students feel more pressured into learning because of the learning environment. Introduction Sixteen years ago, online classes or degree was considered disreputable. During that time, I was attending a campus college and I must say, it was an experience I’ll never forget. Being a freshman in college, living in dorms, freedom away from home, being independent, etc., I was excited. My only regret was I didn’t finish college. Sixteen years later, I am a full time employee, mother, wife …I now have responsibilities that has held me back from attending college again, until now. Since I’ve heard about online class, I have been skeptical. I was questioning the credibility of degree online versus the old fashioned way of getting a degree. I have read and heard many positive feedbacks from people who took classes online and graduated. However, there are some disadvantages for online, for example, the limited contact with peers or with the college professors. Whatever the case it maybe, it all comes down to the person itself how they want to obtain a degree. The main goal is getting a degree. I. Online Education Versus Traditional Education

...Online Education versus Traditional Education With the techno savvy world that we live in today, an education can easily be earned; whether we are at home alone, in the big easy chair, or sitting at a desk in a classroom full of other students. A person with a computer can get and earn a full Masters degree, right from the comforts of home, as opposed to the old traditional style of having to drive to class or go to another city all together, and sit at a very uncomfortable desk, that you doodled on to pass the time away. Times and things have changed in the 21st century, including our ways of being educated. Classrooms used to be little one roomed buildings, that had one teacher for an entire day and students were educated about everything from Algebra to United States Government. As times changed there were more teachers to teach classes, wrote on blackboards and students were told to raise their hand if they had a question. Today the virtual world that we live in anything can be taught and or learned from cyberspace and the world of technology. In online classes, communication is dependent upon if the satellites are all working properly and if you paid your internet bill on time. You can communicate with your teacher and other students through email, and then you just sit and wait for a reply or an answer to your posts or emails. There are no teachers looking at you as you do your assignments or raising their eyebrows if you talk. The face to face of traditional......

Online vs Traditional

...The Comparison Between Online and Traditional Classes Kayla Staples National American University Kayla Staples EN1550 Online vs Traditional Classes There are many different pros and cons to taking online classes versus traditional in class classes. A counselor or teacher is someone that could help a student determine which type of classes best fits the student. Before deciding on such a big decision, a student must first take into consideration how disciplined they are as a student to get their work done. Discipline as a student is a number one factor when it comes to deciding on a online or a traditional class room class. Being an online student takes a lot of discipline because you do not have someone standing there telling you exactly how to do your work. You also do not have someone there who can help you right away with questions you may have on your assignment. An online student needs to be organized and able to complete tasks on a certain deadline without being reminded daily. Being a traditional class student could be a better route for someone who does not have much discipline outside of the classroom. While being in class, you have to get your work done in a certain time and you have that time to do it in class. You teacher and peers are in class with you if you ever get in a stump on an assignment and need to ask questions. Flexibility is another factor that needs to come into play when a student decides on which type of class to take. If a......

Online Classes vs Traditional Classes

...Online Classes versus Traditional Classes Technology and education has given students many choices in how they obtain their education such as online classes. There have been numerous discussions recently about the success of online learning. The success of the online classes versus traditional classes is based upon the uniqueness of each individual way of learning. Online classes and traditional classes provide flexibility, direct communication and course materials. Studies have shown that online classes can be successful and that on average most students perform better than being in a traditional classroom. The argument of online classes and traditional classes; which is better than the other has many exceptional differences. One is the discussion of how does a person learn: is he a visual, auditory or kinesthetic learner? A visual leaner needs written materials, exercises and graphics. An auditory learner has to hear it, repeat it and needs to have a discussion. A kinesthetic learner needs real life simulations, hands on demonstration and needs to see how the principle works. Visual learners and kinesthetic learners most likely would be more successful in online courses because of the atmosphere it provides. Auditory learners would need to have traditional classes which would provide the best learning opportunity for their learning style. There are cases that individuals do not know how they learn best; an assessment should be given in the situation. The......

...Online versus Traditional Education Classes Tara L Mitchell COM/155 November 17, 2013 Kevin Galvin Online versus Traditional Education Classes Even though there is more support from teachers in a traditional setting, online classes can work better for most people and their schedules. Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way - George Evans- People can enroll in either traditional or online classes; they will have to decide for themselves which way works best for them. Online Versus Traditional Education

...Online Versus Traditional Education The traditional Brick and Mortar classroom setting has been around for hundreds of years, however, in today’s modern society the online classroom is becoming a more popular choice when choosing a school, especially a college. Online schooling versus the traditional campus classroom has become an increasingly popular way to attend classes with today’s new world technology. This is especially true among the working class population because of people’s time limitations, family, and working schedules. Taking classes online, allows people the freedom of studying from anywhere there is an internet connection. This eliminates the need to be in a structured brick and mortar class on a campus that may, or may not be located conveniently. Taking classes online also allows a person to attend at any given time during the day, versus attending classes on Monday, Wednesday & Friday's from eight to ten in the morning or from seven to ten on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The traditional brick and mortar campus setting for the typical college student is where all the action is, this is most popular for those students attending college for the first time straight out of High School. The college student looks forward to his or her new found freedom that the dorms allow and living at home does not provide. Living away from home in a college dorm or off campus apartment allows the student to party, go to class, and have the independence of, the adults he...

Online Education vs Face to Face

...Online education versus face-to-face Nicole Mackie COM/155 November 24, 2012 Lezli Pearson Online education versus face-to-face There are several reasons online schooling is better than traditional schooling. Online schooling gives better delivery of the material. Traditional schools will often charge more than online classes. There is more flexibility for students with other commitments in online education. Online schooling requires dedication, discipline, and a distraction-free-environment, but online is better because it allows flexibility and often charges less than traditional schools. Concerning grading papers, online is so much faster than traditional. Because all online students work at different paces and when done with assignments can send them right in for grading not having to wait for the next class session, allowing the teacher to grade or send correction feedback before the assignment is due. This also gives the teacher time to look over them as they come in, a few at a time instead of 25 all on the same day because of class schedules. With online classes grading for papers is easier because everything is transmitted via a computer which calculates how many words are in the paper, where as traditional schooling the teachers have to count each word of everyone’s papers and if you have 25 students it, can take more of your time just making sure they have enough words. With online classes it has been my experience that if I have questions I can get......

Online courses let students learn at their own pace, accomplish assignments on their own schedules and acquire the same knowledge as they would in a traditional, classroom-based course. Just like traditional classes, online instructors use discussion, assignments and community to educate students. However, their means of execution for these tools are quite different. In traditional classes, students structure their time outside of the classroom to allow for studying, projects and homework. However, Northcentral University, an online institution, states that with the absence of regular class meetings, online courses require students to acquire and learn course materials on their own time. According to the "Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks," this freedom is what makes online classes attractive to nontraditional students who may work additional jobs or have family responsibilities that make attending regular classes a challenge. Participation Both online and classroom-based courses also assess student participation. In traditional classes, students voluntarily participate in discussions or ask and answer questions. However, according to the......

Online Versus Traditional Education

...Online versus Traditional Education COM/170 March 10, 2014 Teresa Purcell Online versus Traditional Education Most people believe that online education is easy. People believe that students are just sitting in front of the computer; they can switch tabs and enjoy social media, listen to music and speak on the phone while attending their class online. Reality is that online education requires time management, discipline, and the same responsibilities that a traditional education does. Online college and traditional classes require that students have excellent time management. Traditional classes allow students to have the freedom of managing their time differently compared to online students. Online schools have more structured time lines as to when participation must be completed. Online schools and traditional schools measure and grade their students participation and commitment. In traditional classrooms students voluntarily participate in class discussions, students are required to participate for a minimum of three times per class period. Traditional students attend class one day a week and manage their time differently compared to online students. Online students also have a minimum requirement of participation per week, and they are required to attend online forum classes for a minimum of three times a week. Online students are required to participate on discussion boards with other students, with a minimum posting participation of eight times a week. Therefore...

Online Versus Traditional Education

...Online Versus Traditional Education Amanda Paskiang COM/155 December 1, 2013 Lisa King Imagine having seven children, a spouse, and a job. Do you think you would have a chance to go sit in a traditional classroom in order to advance your education? This was the main reason why people did not try to get a college degree, just a decade ago. Now days, there are two types of education, the traditional setting and the online setting. There are many different advantages and disadvantages to both online and traditional education. First, there is the issue of time constraints. Many people have very little free time to which they can devote to an education. One of the disadvantages of traditional education is the time that has to be set aside at a specific time. This makes it really hard if your spouse is at work and you do not have a babysitter. In this case, maybe pursuing an online degree is best for you. It will allow you to attend your classes when it is most convenient for you. Another aspect that people look at when deciding which type of education is the best option for them is location. With today’s gas prices, most people do not want to drive back and forth to school. Therefore, they choose online education. Some people would have to drive a long way to get to a college campus, because they do not live near one. This is when the benefits of online education, being able to be done at home, outweigh the advantages of a traditional education. The third thing I am...

Online education is one of the ways to learn various subjects. We can take a lecture or hand in our assignments through the Internet. Therefore, people can learn what they want to learn whenever or wherever they want. In America, some colleges adopt this education. However, this new way to educate students is not prevailed in all countries because in some countries, they have enough educational system for students. Although some countries have enough colleges or educational system, the online education should be a part of educational system in all colleges for three reasons: cost, environmental and flexibility. First, online education can give a good influence in educational cost. To be sure, some people have enough money to go to college and online education is not necessary because there are many professors who teach various kinds of subjects and we can ask directly what we want to know without paying money. However, when we think about the poor people with some problems, we can understand the thought that online education should be a part of educational system. For example in Japan, according to the research by Tokyo University, about ten thousand students retired from their......
