The greater part of us contempt sitting tight for the train to pass on the tracks. We whine about "how the train is squandering our time" and have a tendency to go on our telephones while sitting tight for the train to pass. Our activities can do and stop to such an extent. ...Many immigrants come to the United States for a better future for their families and themselves, but not knowing the difficulties they must face crossing the border to get here first. Immigrants know it is not an easy thing to do migrating to the United States because it is not that simple as getting on a plane and heading over here. They must face many challenges and risks crossing the border without getting caught or killed. Once they finally get here (the ones that survive) they realize the danger is not over, but it just beginning. Immigrants that migrate to the United States in pursue of a better life for their families and themselves, but face the first challenge even before crossing the border, which is leaving their families behind. “When men and women immigrate illegally to the United States, they often leave much more than a town and a country. They leave fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters. The children sometimes grow up not knowing their parents — and sometimes never seeing them again. In some cases, they come to resent the parent who isn’t there at Christmas or on their birthday or to tuck them in at night.” (Trevizo) leaving family behind is the most difficult thing for a parent because you do not know if you will die trying to cross the border or how long it will take to be reunited with the ones you love. Animal Testing

...Animals are used in generally three purposes Biomedical and behavior research, Education, and Drug and product testing. With the development of these industries, animal testing becomes a hot topic. On one side, people tries to protect animals since they think all the organisms are equal. On the other side however, scientist and some anthropologists who stand on human’s perspective point out that all the efforts we have paid to try to be nice to animals are just because we are humans and we are the dominant force on this earth. The better position should be --- we as humans should protect animals since they live on the same planet as we do, but the first priority of all the creatures are to survive which is very cruel but very true. Therefore, humans have the right to make their lives better by conducting a certain level of animal testing. Animal testing is essential for human beings to cure their diseases. The record of animal would be traced back to at least 2000 years ago with the first record made in the third century B.C. In Egypt, philosopher and scientist Erisistratus used animals to study body functions. About five centuries later, the roman physician Galen proved that theory by conducting an animal test and finally uncovered the mask of body function (Research Animals, History, n.d). According to the FBR, (Foundation for Biomedical Research), the death rate has been declining since conducting animal research. Throughout the histories, animal testing has helped humans getting...

Pollution

...Environmental Pollution Scenario Review and Summary Week 4 Assignment SCI/256 July 5, 2012 David Pruchenski University of Phoenix Given the budget of $4.4M, the city of Cleveland Hts., has implemented a new bike lane through out the city. This was done in order to encourage it’s residence to be more environmental friendly. Instead of using an automobile everyday, the council felt that with biking, we can decrease the rise of pollution, Exploring ways in which to maximize financial rail performance is thus highly significant for many countries. The need for better and faster transportation is correlated with the economic development of a country (Zahivi, 1981). Train technology has improved immensely over the past few decades and new political developments have led to the desire for building a High Speed Rail network throughout Europe. The aim of this thesis is to show that the limitations of the traditional evaluation techniques also apply to rail system design. In addition, the possibilities of using a flexible approach are explored for the railways. High Speed Rail lines are very controversial. The many opponents of HSR lines emphasize the huge cost and commercial failure rates while proponents see the potential benefits that HSR could bring to a region. A flexible strategy could bring both sides together as it limits the risks and preserves and expands the benefits. 1. Random emission...

Mexico Trade: Gain Advantage from Low Cost

...Liu Linna (H10001004) Paper #1 Prof. Nolt International Economics April 13, 2013 Mexico Trade: Gain Advantage from Low Cost Executive Summary: In the essay, I mainly discuss the comparative advantage of Mexico trade. After analyzing the related data and sources, I find that Mexico has the major advantage of production cost compared with its major export partners. Mexico exports more labor-intensive goods to the NAFTA members, the US and Canada, which also reflects that the economic globalization promotes the development of Mexico trade. Background: Mexico is the eleventh largest economy in the world, with a GDP of US$1.66 trillion in 2012. Mexico exported $336.3 billion and imported $341.9 billion last year. Mexican exports are not only raw materials such as oil or silver, but also manufactured goods and even high-technology products, including assembled aircraft, pharmaceuticals, communications equipment, and computer and office machinery, which represent 19.6% of total Mexican exports. The United States is Mexico’s largest trading partner (73.5%), followed by Canada (7.5%) and Germany (1.7%). Mexico is also one of the countries with most trade agreements in the world, having 12 free trade agreements with over 40 countries including North and Central America, the European Free Trade Area and Japan, putting more than 90% of its trade under free trade agreements. Maglev

...A Paper Presentation On “Magnetic Levitation Trains” For [pic] ABSTRACT Imagine a train that doesn't touch its track and think of the potential for lower guide way maintenance costs as a result. Imagine a train that speeds along much faster than anything on the highway with a ride as smooth as silk. Imagine that train being capable of speeds higher than any other ground-based transportation system. Maglev can provide this speed and compete directly with airline travel. As stated by American Maglev, "Maglev means magnetically levitated and propelled vehicles. The advantage of maglev is that it can achieve very high speed and acceleration/deceleration performance because the vehicles essentially "fly" at very low altitudes - unlike trains or cars; there is no surface contact or "friction" to slow them down. More speed = more passengers." Only when we have real revenue-producing systems in operation will be able to prove whether this is true or not. In Maglev—which is short for MAGNETIC LEVITATION—high speed vehicles are lifted by magnetic repulsion, and propelled along an elevated guide way by powerful magnets attached to the vehicle. The vehicles do not physically contact the guide way, do not need engines, and do not burn fuel. Instead, they are magnetically propelled by electric power fed to coils located on the guide way. Indeed this is the beginning...

Is Tourism Sustainable

...com/1755-4217.htm WHATT 1,3 Is tourism with a low impact on climate possible? Jonathan Chenoweth Centre for Environmental Strategy, University of Surrey, Guildford, UK Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of a range of different travel and tourism options, and quantifies the carbon-dioxide emissions resulting from international vacations, breaking down emissions categories into those resulting from transport, accommodation and recreation. Design/methodology/approach – The paper uses summary data to review a range of possible vacation scenarios and examines their relative carbon-dioxide emissions in order to compare the relative climatic impact of different forms of tourism and vacation options. Findings – The paper concludes that intercontinental flights and cruise ship travel are particularly carbon-intensive, which suggests that these two forms of tourism will be particularly vulnerable to any policy initiative to curb or price carbon emissions. Ends by considering whether climatically responsible international tourism is possible, and outlines some low-carbon options. Originality/value – The paper relates data on carbon emissions to the implications for tourism arising from climate change. Keywords Climatology, Tourism, Global warming Paper type General review 274 The nature of the challenge While much of the discussion about the climate change impacts of international travel focuses upon international aviation, all forms of transport result...

...police actions towards terrorist related incidents since 9/11, displays how law enforcement agencies have demonstrated their ability to respond to the various threats of terrorism as they arise. “Since 2001, numerous terrorist attacks have been thwarted in Australia. Thirty-eight people have been prosecuted as a result of counter-terrorism operations and 20 people have been convicted of terrorism offences under the Criminal Code.” (Counter-Terrorism White Paper, 2010, p. ii) Australia’s State and Federal policing agencies have ‘a long tradition of reactive patrol’ (White, 2012, p. 487) However, uniformed policing plays an important role in counter-terrorism operations. Due to their knowledge and close working relationships within the local community, police are in the best position to detect and prevent terrorist actions from occurring. “So far, terrorist attempts in Australia have been disrupted by the coordinated and highly professional efforts of Australia’s security agencies and police services” (Counter-Terrorism White Paper, 2010, p. 14) The Australian Government has defined terrorism as “the use of violence by groups or individuals pursuing political objectives.” Additionally it states that “Terrorists are frequently indiscriminate in their...
