Transaction Processing System of Riordan Manufacturing
BSA/310

Transaction Processing System of Riordan Manufacturing Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer who is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding. They produce everything plastic from plastic containers, fans, plastic bottles and even heart valves and stents. With the amount of goods being shipped every day a critical information system is the transaction processing system (TPS) to keep track of the inventory in house as well as the products being shipped to the customer. A transaction processing system is one of the most important information systems because it is the building block from which the other systems receive their information. Without a transaction processing system management information systems, decision support systems, and enterprise resource planning, would not have the data needed to analyze to make the correct decisions in their systems. Transaction processing systems are used within a company to monitor and process large amounts of data used on a day to day basis. Companies will use a TPS to when processing orders, purchasing materials, updating inventory and accounts payable and received. After reviewing Riordan’s inventory management, they are using transaction processing system to keep their raw materials updated in the system. At the end of the day the receiving area supervisor will give the log of raw materials and associated shipping documents to the receiving clerk to enter into the inventory system. This system will keep track of all of the materials and inventory available for use in the factory. From there the raw materials are taken out of inventory and the manufacturing staff will complete an inventory usage form to show the amount of materials taken from the inventory. The inventory clerk will then enter the information about what material was taken into the inventory system updating the amount of raw materials left to use. After the final products and sub-assemblies are built the manufacturers complete an inventory form and give it to the clerk to update the inventory system with the amount of final goods made. From there orders are placed by the customer and the inventory system is updated after the goods are shipped. The transaction process system at Riordan Manufacturing is currently a manual where all of the inventory information is being entered manually by a clerk. A TPS in batch processing mode for a specified amount of time and processes and stores the information for later (Turban & Volonino, 2011). This is different from using an online transaction processing system where the TPS processes each transaction as it occurs. Using batch processing is more cost efficient but the downfall is the data is not always up to date. By using the On-Line processing system the Riordan is able to keep their system updated with the most up to date information no matter which part of the factory is updating the inventory or raw materials in the inventory system. With a company as large as Riordan Manufacturing it is critical that every department has the most updated information in order to avoid any errors. The transaction process system at Riordan Manufacturing is a critical information system in order to keep the inventory, manufacturing, and order fulfillment working seamlessly. Without a TPS Riordan would be trying to keep all of the information by hand or in a spreadsheet; which wouldn’t be an efficient use of labor or time.

...Separation of Duties at Riordan Manufacturing James Shoemaker CMGT 430 August 20, 2012 Bradley Andrews   Separation of Duties at Riordan Manufacturing Identifying and managing risk is a key to the survival of every organization that has more than one or two people involved in the day-to-day activities. Anytime that an organization allows an opportunity for a single user to perform more than one task or function that requires checks and balances the opportunity for loss to the organization exists. The proper management of risk by the organization will at the very least minimize financial losses to the company and in most cases increase profits. A review of the current processed in place at Riordan Manufacturing’s different locations has led to the recommendation that Riordan Manufacturing needs to establish new policies that provide for Separation of duties within the different departments of the organization. By definition, separation of duties is a key concept of internal controls and is the most difficult and sometimes the most costly one to achieve. This objective is achieved by disseminating the tasks and associated privileges for a specific security process among multiple people (Coleman, 2008). Separation of duty, as it relates to security, has two primary objectives. The first is the prevention of conflict of interest, the appearance of conflict of interest, wrongful acts, fraud, abuse, and errors. The second is the detection of control failures that include...

Based upon our evaluation, Riordan currently possesses three different operating systems in its Finance and Accounting department. It is recommended that the company consider employing a Windows Hyper-V Server 2008 platform with SQL Server 2008 and General Ledger in Microsoft Dynamics DP. The Legal department has retained the law firm of Litteral and Finkel, headed by Chief Legal Counsel Lowell Bradford, and requires no further changes at this time. The recommendation is to consider the Oracle E-Business Suite Human Resource Management system to help give the department structure and organization. Finally, a number of disparate databases, paper files, and microfiche have controlled the Sales and Marketing department. ...Riordan Manufacturing Business System Proposal Paul Belanger, Aaron Ledger, Dacia Faulk, Ian Westerfield, Jennifer Gallaway University of Phoenix Introduction Being the industry leader in polymer materials and per our mission statement, Riordan Manufacturing must remain in step with industry trends. In order to effectively attain this objective, we must acclimatize, embrace, and take advantage of new and innovative technologies. In addition to identifying existing systems employed within the company that are in need of upgrades, the remainder of this paper will also address new systems as well as sub-systems needed and present a brief summary of why these systems would be advantageous to the future of Riordan Manufacturing. Finance and Accounting Overview Riordan manufacturing employs nine basic finance and accounting subsystems globally and three additional subsystems at the San Jose, California corporate headquarters. The atmosphere of interoperability between each of Riordan’s offices (California, Georgia, Michigan, and China) is at best hostile. At present, each operating entity has its own finance and accounting system resulting in a number of inefficiencies due to company-wide systems incompatibility, a lot of which stems from the Michigan and Georgia acquisition. To better establish potential interoperability between existing subsystems, it is first necessary to define the current subsystems of each Riordan office, existing software solutions, and how these...

Rfid Solution

...Motorola Solutions RFID System CIS/207 Title of Paper As technology continues to advance on a daily basis, businesses and organizations are looking for ways to become more efficient in their overall production. Technology is changing the way a business once performed its daily operations by relying on IT systems to perform unnecessary manual functions. As more manual functions are being replaced by technology, it is allowing the human aspect of the business to focus more on duties/operations that cannot be replaced by the technology. The current Warehouse Management Systems still rely on a ton of manual functions, such as data entry. After reviewing the Riordan's Inventory Management and Control Procedures, it was determined that a more efficient technology system could bring vast improvement in these areas. The Radio Frequency Identification technology could relieve meaningless data entry while providing a better security of Riordan’s inventory and equipment. What is an RFID system? The Department of Homeland Security defined RFID technology in 2012, “Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology uses radio waves to identify people or objects. There is a device that reads information contained in a wireless device or “tag” from a distance without making any physical contact or requiring a line of sight.” The RFID works as an automated data collection (ADC) technology. Some have suggested that this technology has begun to replace the traditional method of identifying...
