An event for me that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of myself and others was my first year in high school. Before starting high school I was comfortable being who I was, or at least as well as an eighth grader could know. I knew as much as I could but did not understand of what I wanted to become or how I wanted my life to be shaped beyond this point. I was just me and I didn’t have a personal connection with myself at that time.
Transferring Into high school I definitely wanted to fit in. I thought it would be just like the stereotypical High School you see on TV. There were the jocks, nerds, etc. I didn’t know which category I fit into at the time. Not feeling confident with who I was, I followed along with others, doing what was “popular” even if it was not the most respectful or best decision to make. As I made these decisions I would look back and feel guilty and shame, knowing that I was not like that and I shouldn’t be acting in that certain way. The first time this really hit me was in seventh grade when some eighth graders that were my “friends” started making fun of this other kid and I joined unaware of my actions. As freshman year progressed I started realizing who I am by the decisions and thoughts I had about certain situations and ideas. I became aware to the idea that doing the popular thing might not always be the right thing and to help me in my decisions were my real friends who also wanted to do the right thing even if it was the unpopular idea. Going back to the stereotypical High School scene, many kids as shown would drink and smoke at parties every Friday night. Instead of following this my friends showed me that I do not need to follow the popular movement to “fit in” Slowly I started to mold my own shape and I became less worried about what other people thought and did not take others opinions to alter who I

That knowledge progresses to be transferrable and applicable to everyday life. In kindergarten, numbers are presented in the form of counting. ...Sherman Alexie’s novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the protagonist in the story is a 14-year old boy named Arnold Spirit Jr., a.k.a Junior, which they call him throughout the story most of the time.
