Charles Manson
The trial of John Mason began in mid-June 1970. It was presided over by Judge Charles Older. The trial took place in the Hall of Justice in Los Angeles at the eighth floor. The judge appointed 2 jurors who would help in the case. Charles insisted on defending himself though he was assisted by a lawyer by the name Irving Kanarek. He was known for his frustration on witnesses and judges. The other lawyer who defended Charles was Ronald Hughes who was referred to as the hippie lawyer and was Leslie Van Houten’s lawyer.
Kanarek may have found some kind of record for arguments in the Manson trial. He objected a total ofnine times in the prosecution's opening remarks. By the third day of trial, he had authorized more than 200 objections when the media ceased keeping track of them. Regularly, Kanarek's objections were created in "shotgun" type, such as many recommended reasons that were completely inapplicable: "Leading and suggestive; no foundation; summary and rumour." Other periods his arguments were designed to impact the judge. For instance, he objected to Linda Kasabian's testimony by announcing, "Object, Your Respect, on the reasons this observe is not qualified because she is insane!" Kanarek also flooded the judge with activities, many of them novel to say the least, such as a movement to have "Mr. Manson covered up from evidence" as the item of an unlawful look for. Kanarek brought up eye-brows for asking unusual concerns, such as when he requested Kasabian (during his seven-day cross-examination after Kasabian's immediate declaration in which she exposed she had taken LSD about 50 times), Atkins was the first to give a testimony. She had been assured of a reduced sentence for giving her testimony as she was the first one to be arrested. However this offer was revoked after Atkins replenished her royalty to Manson.Individuals who realized them but were not aspect of the team revealed other confessions from Manson and Close relatives about one time. On Nov 12, the L.A. Sheriff's investigators had an opportunity to meeting Al Springer who was a participant of the motorbike team known as the Directly Satans who had been engaged with the Manson Family associates off and on. The investigators were amazed when Springer informed them that a few times after the Tate killings that Manson had boasted to him about eliminating people: "We broken off five of them just the other evening." Springer remained obvious of Manson after that, but described that Danny DeCarlo, another participant of the motorbike team resided at the Spahn Farm with the Family associates wrote on? "Charlie said they had written something on the screwing fridge in blood vessels...Something about hogs or niggers or something like that.” When the cops finally got to Danny DeCarlo, they had an earful of charlie and his Close relatives. Not only did DeCarlo validate their culpability in Grettle Hinman's loss of life, but he suggested as a factor them in the loss of life of a 36-year-old farm side known as Shorty, a handle for Brian Shea. He was murdered because he would tell the proprietor of the Spahn Ranch what was really occurring on his residence. "Shorty was going to tell the old man Spahn...and Charlie did not like snitches," DeCarlo described.DeCarlo had been informed what they did to his buddy Shorty: "they trapped him like chiselling up a Christmas chicken...Bruce (Davis) said they cut him up in nine items. They cut his go off then they cut his hands off too, so there was no way they could probably recognize him. They were having a laugh about that." A wallet that belonged to Rosemary Lablanca was found at a restroom in a service station believed to have been left there by Linda Kasabian. It was wedged in the toilet tank. This piece of evidence was critical in strengthening the story of Susan Atkin in the case. However, she resorted to retract her testimony when she started feeling the pressure from Charlie. Another piece of evidence that was found was the 22 calibre Hi Standard Longhorn revolver that had a broken gun grip. The gun had been found by the son of Bernard Weiss and handed over to the police 3 and half months later. He called the LAPD to know whether the gun was the murder weapon when he learned about the prosecution on the newspaper. However it emerged that the gun had gotten “lost” after some time. Weis blamed the police for losing the most vital piece of evidence in the Tate case. Later on, the police found the gun and ran tests and found out that it was the murder weapon. The gun was linked to Manson when a Randy Starr claimed that he once was the owner of the gun but sold it to Manson. Another valuable piece of evidence was found when police were contacted by the owner of the place where the Tate killers cleaned up after the murders. The man had memorised the license plates of the car they used to travel in and was later traced to an employee at Sphan Ranch who had given the car to Manson and his girlfriend.

More than 200 people were accused of witchcraft practice and over 19 people were killed during this chaos. Salem, Massachusetts wasn’t alone in the witch hunt. A wave of trials swept Europe for nearly 300 years. This hysteria first began in January of 1692 when a group of young girls fell ill after playing a fortune telling game. They began behaving strangely. They later came known as the “afflicted girls”. These women were Sarah Good, Sarah Osburn and a slave woman named Tituba who worked for the Parris family. On March 1st these three women were arrested and examined. ...Family Few characters have gripped the eye of the American public as successfully as Charles Manson, and even fewer have ever been as effective as Manson in creating a cult following of eager people. Manson and his “Family” are the crowning achievement of a conservative America, rife with religious passion that merged with the heavy use of addictive drugs such as cocaine and LSD in order to synthesize a cult based on a skewed worldview. I argue that Manson, labeled as a social deviant from a young age, embraced this formal classification and successfully created a message that appealed to dysfunctional and otherwise outcast American youth. Manson and his Family originated in the turbulence of the 1960s, in which violence based on racial lines struck many American cities. Primarily focusing on the conflict between whites and blacks, the outbreak of racial violence in the latter part of the decade convinced Manson that an apocalyptic war between the two races was inevitable. Moreover, Manson believed that the war would end with the whites being defeated temporarily, though he and his Family would arise from their secure base of operations out of Spahn Movie Ranch to reclaim the land from the inferior blacks. Leading twenty followers to the Ranch, most of whom were female, Manson was a charismatic and appealing figure to the drug-driven and racist whites that dominated his cult of personality. Manson himself had “spent most of his 32 years in reformatories and jails by the spring...

...Born in Ohio in 1934, Charles Manson is notoriously connected to the brutal slayings of actress Sharon Tate and other Hollywood residents, but he was never actually found guilty of committing the murders himself. However, the famous Tate-La Bianca killings have immortalized him as a living embodiment of evil. Images of his staring "mad eyes" are still used today to illustrate countless serial-murder news stories. The Manson Family—including Charles Manson and his young, loyal dropout disciples of murder—is thought to have carried out some 35 killings. Most were never tried, either for lack of evidence or because the perpetrators were already sentenced to life for the Tate/La Bianca killings. In 2012, Manson was denied parole for the 12th time. Charles Manson I believe was not crazy but very clever individual. Manson had a group of people he referred to as his “family” he was a very manipulative man to the people around him. His followers numbering round the one-hundreds, also including a small portion of impressionable young girls. He had them all to believe without question that he was Jesus and his prophecies of a race war. Manson was not only influenced by drugs such as LSD but by art works and music of the time such as The Beatles song “Helter Skelter” from their white album. The first murders took place on August 9, 1969, at Roman Polanski’s Beverley Hills home at 10050 Cielo Drive. Manson chose his four most best comrades- Charles “Tex” Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia...

Manson is still alive to this day, locked up in a jail cell for the rest of his life. Many people do not understand the significances of his crimes and how he affected hundreds of lives with his theories. He took the steps and controlled his follows by regulating: food intake, drug intake and what news they received from the ‘outside’. I chose this subject because many people do not understand how ill this world can be and how it has been. Hitler has been one of the few who has practiced controlling people with the steps stated above, and he was successful in his planning too. Another person is Bin Laden, who controlled people and they were willing to die for him, he mentally and physically controlled them, which made them believe that what they were doing was okay. I want everyone to be aware of people who do and say such things as Charles Manson does. In this paper I plan to make one understand that what is going on in today’s society has occurred before in the past but in different styles and more exact on who their targets were to be. These are clear signs that...

His trial and conviction were more complex than a typical case because others were involved. Argumentative Essay On Insanity Defense

...Insanity defense is a mental disorder people use in criminal trials, saying that they were not in their right mind when they committed that crime. These people argue that, they shouldn’t be charge for a crime they committed, because they didn’t know better. In some cases those who committed crimes weren’t in their right state of mind, but other use this excuse to get out of jail time. Law and Crime

...Crime is as American as credit cards, the NFL, Hollywood, and airbrushed magazine covers. However, crime has been around much longer than America has existed in the eyes of the world. The word crime is a pretty simple word to define. Yet, one crime is not the same as another crime. You cannot define theft the same as you could arson. You could not define assault the same as you could jay walking. There are many crimes that exist in society. These crimes range from almost insignificant to horrible to tragic. The same can be said for a person who breaks the law. It would be hard to call someone arrested for jay walking a criminal in the same context as someone arrested for murder. In life, there are many types of people. There are people who have never broken the law and have never had any sort of dealings with law enforcement. There are people that have broken the law and have had unfortunate dealings with law enforcement, yet those people are not criminals and just made a mistake. Then, you have the people that are true criminals. The true criminals of society are the people that hone their “talents and skills.” The true criminals of society are the ones that scheme elaborate plans to steal millions of dollars, the people that hide in the dark waiting for an innocent person to walk by so the criminal can rob them at gunpoint, the people that enjoy raping women or molesting children, and the people that kill other people out of jealousy, greed, or just plain enjoyment. Criminal...

Capital Punishment

...Kevin Reasoner Professor Kraskin English 1101 December 8th, 2012 Capital Punishment Capital punishment is a debate our politicians argue each year with. Many people are for it and many are against it. Our very own Supreme Court still debate on this topic. If properly used right, capital punishment is good for society because it is a deterrence against future crimes and protect the rights of victims of malicious murders, capital punishment is a legal and an appropriate measure in the United States legal system. Capital punishment was reestablished in 1976 by the Supreme Court as an appropriate measure for murder cases. Since then, many murderers have been convicted and put to death for their awful crimes. With each execution of a murderer, society is a safer place. When a human makes the ultimate decision to commit a crime of murder, rape, child rape, and torture, would a life in prison term be fair. Prison's are for much less acts of crime and people who do the acts against fellow humans should be punished by capital punishment. Prisons and jails are used as a deterrent so that people in today’s' society will not perform an act against another human. If they do, they know the repercussions of the acts they are performing. Some people are clearly not mentally capable of knowing the difference between right and wrong and they are put into hospitals because of their sickness. The majority of society know the difference of right and wrong. Another form of a deterrent...
