Action Plan In this paper I will be talking about what to do in case of a fire on our property. I will be preparing an Incident Action Plan for the fire, and I will be explaining everything that you need to do in this event.
• Identify at least two incident goals (i.e., where the response system should be at the end of response) and at least two operational objectives (i.e., major areas that must be addressed in the specified operational period to achieve the goals or control objectives).
There are two conditions within this scenario that I see wrong. The first thing I see is that the driver was driving too fast for conditions. The other thing that I noticed that might have happened is that he is either really tired, not paying attention to what he is doing, or both. I would also take a look around see any possible cause for why he slid. I would also want to know what the situation was surrounding what he was doing. Was it really icy, or were the docks dry? Did he have help in backing up the truck, or was it in a blind spot that he couldn’t see? There are many variables that need to be considered.
• Describe at least two response strategies (i.e., priorities and the general approach to accomplish the operational objectives) and at least two response tactics (i.e., specific methods developed to achieve the response strategies).
The first thing I would do is make sure that the area is cleared so that no fire would spread any farther. I would also make sure everybody within a certain mile radius is out of the way of the fire. I would also make sure to use caution tape, and tape off the area that has been affected and make sure the people who are in the area are protected with a mask so that they don’t get sick.
• Prepare an organization list showing at least three primary roles and an assignment list with at least three specific tasks and their owners.
I would be calling the company that shipped the pellets to me, letting them know what had happened, and also ask them how they packed the truck, and have someone come up with a better way to pack. I would also call the truck drivers company and be asking them how long the truck driver has been driving for them. I would also have to contact my company and let them know what was going on, and make sure they know that I have everything under control.
• Explain a health and safety plan (to prevent responder injury or illness) that includes at least three provisions to ensure personnel safety.
The first thing I would do would be to keep everybody away from the fire and smoke, only letting response people through to get to the area, this way only certain people would be getting through and I could control who was coming in and out. If they didn’t need to be in there, then I would keep them out. I would keep the people who were involved in the accident in a separate place so that they could be monitored for a few to make sure they are ok.
• Summarize a communications plan (how functional areas can exchange information) with at least a primary and secondary method of communication.
Walkie talkies are the best thing to have when you are working in a warehouse. They work so well, that there are also some businesses that use them for communication between co-workers while they work in case of an emergency. This is the best way to communicate with everybody who is in the building, as well as those people who may be working on the outside. I would also have CB radios in the trucks. This way I can still keep in contact with everybody knowing what is going on in and around my building. If the Walkie talkies or CB radios went out then we would have landlines in place so we could still talk to people in the different buildings.
• Locate the incident using a map or precise verbal description that allows responders to find the area and indicate an area that non-responders should avoid.
There are two driveway entries that you can use to get into my building. The first entry is right in front of the building, you need to take the second driveway that is at the end of the building on the south side. Go around the building and you will see a security gate that you will need to go through. At this gate the guard will tell you where the incident happened at.
As many of you know and have probably experienced within your own businesses, it is very important to have a plan as well as a backup plan that shows you everything that that you will need, and will give you proper instruction as to what you should do in the event of any kind of emergency. This way, hopefully, you will be well equipped to handle any emergency calmly, efficiently, and effectively for the sake of yourself, your workers, and your business.
