Ruggerio did a good job of presenting examples of current manipulations regarding influence of our minds and emotion by the television. He clearly describes what is wrong with mass media today. Ruggerio states that the television industry affects our minds and emotion and to some point that is true. Most of the program shown in the countless networks of television channel is not meant to express the exact interpretation of a culture or behavior sets, but to engage in entertainment. Ruggiero states that the artificial pace of dramatic programs and the scenes of violence in crime have makes us disappointed with the natural pace of life and graphic images destroy our sense of horror and revulsion. This is considered entertainment. The danger here is when the common population starts to process these events as reality. Say that it is no longer a drama series on TNT, but an opinion show on FOX NEWS or MSNBC. The person observes the anchor of the program dissect and provide his own opinions as facts to justify a certain political view. The audience at home does not see this program as an actual opinion show, but as a legitimate news show. Therefore they regard everything the anchor is saying as fact. We as a people should be less apathetic of what is presented in the television and, as a great teacher once told me, question the assertion. As stated by Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism, “We specialize in using empirical methods to evaluate and study the performance of the press, particularly content analysis. We are non partisan, non ideological and non political. Our goal is to help both the journalists who produce the news and the citizens who consume it develop a better understanding of what the press is delivering, how the media are changing, and what forces are shaping those changes. We have emphasized empirical research in the belief that

...Trial and Verdict Arquisa Ross Dorothy Sliben Into to Criminal Justice 02/28/2015 Contentious Teacher Related Policies Moving From Legislatures to the Courts National teacher unions won a landmark victory in a California lawsuit last year that challenged tenure protections, a case that became the beginning of a national effort to roll back teacher tenure laws in state courts. Teaching professions are shifting from legislative arenas to the courts giving judges the chance to make decisions that could shape the way teachers are hired, fired, and paid. Lawsuits show that two of the nation’s most contentious battles over the teaching professions. Now some of the largest unions in the country are using similar tactics to end test based evaluations, teachers say that they are arbitrary and unfair. Oprah

...Oprah Winfrey is one of the most influential African American women in U.S. history. When she was young, Winfrey was separated from her parent and had to live in a poor surrounding with her grandparent. Having to live with many hardships, Oprah Winfrey was able to turn her life over and achieve many outstanding achievements. According to Adler’s theory in birth order, “only child will tend not to lose primacy and power, besides, he or she will mature at an early stage of life and may have certain issues where they are not in centre of attention.” Based on Adler’s theory in birth order, I believe that Oprah Winfrey did not lose faith after all the hardships she had been through. Consequently, this had brought great results in her future life. At a young age, many difficulties were brought upon Oprah Winfrey. At the age of six, Winfrey had to live in a poor surrounding with her grandmother: “her parents were separated from each other and she had been put to a very poor environment with her grandparents when she was six.” But when her grandmother had gotten ill, she had to move to Wisconsin to live with her mother. Thereafter, Winfrey had endured many hardships in which include having to be sexually abused by her male relatives. After Oprah Winfrey finished third grade, she moved out to live with her father and stepmother in Nashville Tennessee. Due to the fact that her father and stepmother were unable to have a child also being that Oprah was the only child, they treated her...

Tesla

...Strategic Perspective and Ethics Key Issue The key issue involving Tesla Motors is the organizations approach to marketing their product and social mission. The fundamental idea behind the company’s existence is to create vehicles that require sustainable energy as oppose to fossil fuel dependency. The demand for their products is built on the zoom out, bigger picture idea that consumers will eventually switch from the current fossil fuel powered cars to alternative energy powered cars in the future (Kanter, 114). The founder and current Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk, created this organization based on his long term vision that the future of automobiles requires a less oil dependent vehicle. Tesla Motors has consistently reported losses since implementation but the growth and popularity of the organization is based on the future potential and not present success. Shareholders and those involved will eventually want to see real results for them to continue to support Musks bigger picture (Kanter, 114). By non-GAAP standards the company has reported an expectation to create positive earnings and cash flow by early 2016 but previously the company has failed to meet short term expectations (https://hbr.org/2015/05/teslas-not-as-disruptive-as-you-might-think). The lack of profit stems from a combination of dismal efforts to reach more consumers and generate awareness, the costs associated to purchase a vehicle and Teslas approach to marketing and generating sales. Some may not know it, but most of these photos have been edited and retouched. This research paper attempted to determine the majority opinion of what types of photo editing was above the tolerable limit, as well as the public awareness of media manipulation. The different levels of photo editing included changing the contrast, removal of blemishes and dust, addition/removal of objects, and addition/removal of main subjects. The results revealed that most people are aware of photoshopping in the media and they suspected there was more photo editing in magazines and advertisements than newspapers. 3 Chapter 1 In every publication there are most likely photos accompanying articles, advertisements, or exist as an article by themselves. Pictures help support an article, promote a product, tell a story, and bring the viewer in. Nowadays there are an abundance...

...analysis of acquisition prospects. She had pressed for such participation and now she had to deliver. Because of prior work on frozen fruit juices, Joyce had some knowledge of the gourmet frozen market. It was pioneered by Stouffer, who introduced the Lean Cuisine line of entrees in 1981. Since then, other firms have entered the industry with complete gourmet dinners (including Swanson’s Le Menu and Armour’s Dinner Classics). The distinction between entrees, dinners, and the three main types of food offered— conventional, ethnic (i.e., Benihana Restaurant Classics), or low-calorie (i.e., Weight Watchers or Light & Elegant)—define relevant submarkets. Joyce hypothesized that the gourmet frozen food buyer differs from the buyer of conventional “TV dinners” in several respects. The gourmet frozen food buyers are generally young, upper-socioeconomic-group people who probably have microwaves, are more health conscious, and are likely to be working women and others who want sophisticated cuisine but lack the time to prepare it. ...C. Rai – 10048 1. INTRODUCTION BRIEF HISTORY OF THE INDIAN TWO-WHEELER INDUSTRY: In the 50s the two wheeler segment was largely dominated by Automobile Products of India (API) and Enfield. Later on towards the end of the 50s Bajaj Autos began importing Vespa scooters from the Italian company Piaggio. In the following decades, the automobile industry in India was mainly dominated by scooters with API and later Bajaj dominating the market. There were very few products and choices available as far as motorcycle is concerned and Enfield bullet and Rajdoot dominated the market. The 80s saw the entry of Japanese companies in the Indian market with the opening up of the market to foreign companies. Hero Honda and TVS Suzuki are companies formed in this era of market reform. The market was still predominantly scooter dominated and Bajaj and LML were the leading brands producing two-wheelers at that time. Scooter was viewed as a more family and utility friendly vehicle than motorcycle and hence was preferred. The Japanese companies not only collaborated with Indian companies to produce the already existing products but also brought in new technology as a result of which the ever conquering 100cc bikes which were extremely fuel efficient with 4 stroke engines were launched in India. These proved to be highly successful as they provided a cheap and affordable means of personal transport to all those who could not buy a car. The flourishing...
