2009–11: Formation and Twenty One Pilots
The band was formed in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio by college friends, Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih.[7][9] Tyler came up with the band's name while studying All My Sons by Arthur Miller, a play about a man who must decide what is best for his family after causing the death of 21 pilots during World War II because he knowingly sent them faulty parts for the good of his business. Tyler explains that this story of moral dilemma was the inspiration for the name of the band.[10] On December 29, 2009, they released their debut, self-titled album, Twenty One Pilots, and began touring Ohio.
In 2010, the band released two officially unreleased tracks to their SoundCloud account.[11][better source needed] One, an original song titled, "Time to Say Goodbye" and a cover of "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri. They were originally available for free …show more content…

Technology Trends

...Information Systems and Technology Trends Occurring in the Workplace Nancy M. Gonzenbach Southern Illinois University Carbondale Information Systems and Technology Trends Occurring in the Workplace Introduction The advancement of technologies in business is changing the world of work. Businesses find they must incorporate many of the new technological procedures, processes, policies, hardware, and software into their environment to remain competitive. The impact from these technological advances on how work is performed affects the workforce far differently now than what has been seen over the past 25 years. One of the greatest impacts has been on the workers themselves, and the challenge of training and preparing to remain abreast in today’s workforce is tremendous. This challenge, which is facing today’s workers, is something educators cannot afford to ignore. Technology has created a revolution in today’s educational environment, and this change in education makes teaching more rewarding and far more challenging (Bryant, 2001). Review of Literature The field of information systems is constantly changing, and these changes are impacting the way workers think, the processes and procedures used to accomplish wo rk, and the tools used to accomplish goals needed to be competitive in the workforce. In today’s work environment “trends such as the globalization of the economy and the evolution of e-commerce are changing the very nature of work” and “success in the wo rkplace of...

Literature Search to Locate Research Article

...Running head: LITERATURE SEARCH TO LOCATE RESEARCH ARTICLE According to the reports published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Injury Centre (2007), falls are the third most common cause of unintentional injury death across all age groups and the first leading cause among people 65 years and older (Tzeng, H., & Yin, C. (2008). A hospital can be a dangerous and erratic place for inpatients because of its unfamiliar physical environment (different from their home settings) and because of changes in patients’ medical conditions as related to their physical and psychological health and sensory systems (Tzeng, H., & Yin, C. (2008). The following research articles focus on the nurses’ role in preventing and managing patient falls in the hospitals. As part of the assignment abstract from the articles are included. Literature Search 1: Nurses’ Solutions to Prevent Inpatient Fall in Hospital Rooms. Abstract Patient fall rates are perceived as the indicator that could be most improved through nurse-led safety strategies or interventions. A safety-driven design with a goal to prevent inpatient fall-related injuries should be a hospital design principle. In this qualitative study, researchers used inductive and deductive methods to understand the clinically accessible solutions to minimize the extrinsic risk factors of inpatient falls. The findings from the nurse interviews were compared with the intervention strategies toward...

Ibsen* University of Arizona, Department of Sociology, P.O. Box 210027, Tucson, AZ 85721-0027,United States a b s t r a c t Keywords: Airplanes Boeing Airbus Two-party democracy Frames Technological philosophy Economic models of technological innovation, as well as modern sociological approaches to the study of organizations, predict that two-actor markets will eventually evolve into one dominant technological logic. Why is it, then, that the only two global manufacturers of large commercial airplanes have developed diametrically opposed technological philosophies? Based on secondary historical sources, this article employs a theory of twoparty democracies from political science and the theory of sociotechnical frames to explain why Boeing pilots are allowed ultimate command of their aircraft whereas Airbus confers this authority to the flight computer. Ó 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. 1. Introduction For anyone who has ever flown on a large airplane owned by an airline based in an affluent country, the chances are almost exactly 50% that the plane will be made by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and 50% that it will be made by Airbus S.A.S. At the same time, it is 100% certain that it will not be made by anyone else. Most passengers probably cannot tell the difference, nor will they care about the...

The Drive by Burger My Decisive Moment

...THE USES OF REASON by Jonah Lehrer The summer of 1949 had been long and dry in Montana; the grassy highlands were like tinder. On the afternoon of August 5—the hottest day ever recorded in the area—a stray bolt of lightning set the ground on fire. A parachute brigade of firefighters, known as smokejumpers, was dispatched to put out the blaze. Wag Dodge, a veteran with nine years of smokejumping experience, was in charge. When the jumpers took off from Missoula in a C-47, a military transport plane left over from World War II, they were told that the fire was small, just a few burning acres in the Mann Gulch river valley. As the plane approached the fire, the jumpers could see the smoke in the distance. The hot wind blew it straight across the sky. Mann Gulch is a place of geological contradiction. It is where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains, pine trees give way to prairie grass, and the steep cliffs drop onto the steppes of the Midwest. The gulch is just over three miles long, but it marks the border between these two different terrains. The fire began on the Rockies’ side, on the western edge of the gulch. By the time the firefighters arrived at the gulch, the blaze had grown out of control. The surrounding hills had all been burned; the landscape was littered with the skeletons of pine trees. Dodge moved his men over to the grassy side of the gulch and told them to head downhill, toward the placid Missouri River. Dodge didn’t trust this blaze. He wanted to be near...

Some research has shown that young girls, especially girls from ages five to seven, who play with this Barbie dolls have had body image problems. ...management for laboring women, and it is also considered to be a technique that promotes natural childbirth. Hydrotherapy not only provides comfort, but it also promotes physiological childbirth and supports relaxation. Although hydrotherapy is recommended for women, there are eligibility requirements that include the following: healthy pregnant women over 37 weeks of gestation, no complications during pregnancy, a cephalic presentation, and also a single fetus pregnancy (Dykes, Johnson, Frazer, & Hussy, 2017). The following paper will discuss research regarding hydrotherapy, ideal nursing outcomes, and how to promote the use of hydrotherapy in pregnancy. As a vaginal delivery is a painful experience for women, hydrotherapy aims to reduce the pain experienced by women during this special time in their lives. A study completed by Taghavi, Barband, & Khaki (2015), aimed to further explore the use of hydrotherapy on the progress of labor and delivery. Glenn Luther Martin

...Glenn Luther Martin 1886-1955 Joel Alm 9-24-2014 Research Paper-1 AVMA 2211 Glenn Luther Martin was a self-taught pilot, youthful businessman and an inventor whose bombers and flying boats played important roles in WWI, WWII, and for part of the Cold War. Martin was born on January 17, 1886 in Macksburg, Iowa and passed away on December 4, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland (Encyclopedia). Glenn founded the Glenn L. Martin Company in 1912. In 1916, he merged his company with the original Wright Company, forming the Wright –Martin Aircraft Company. He ended up leaving the Wright-Martin Aircraft Company and founded a second Glenn L. Martin Company in 1917. After his passing, his second company would eventually in 1995 merge with the Lockheed Corporation, forming Lockheed Martin which is a major aerospace and defense contractor still today (Kansas Wesleyan). At the age of two, Martin’s family moved to Kansas so that his father could run a wheat farm (Kansas Wesleyan). Four years later Martin showed a great interest for kites and eventually started designing his own kites. Despite criticism from his friends, people noticed Martin’s kites and would pay him twenty five cents to build one for them. Along with his obsession for kites, Martin would find innovative ways to make everyday activities more interesting. He began using sails for everything: ice skates, wagons, and his bicycle. The Wright Brother’s first flight in 1903 caught Martin’s attention. He was fascinated with their...

...Natarsha Hendricks Professor Slade LIBS 499 5 May 2014 Research Proposal for Senior Research Project Introduction This document details planning and preparation for the Senior Research Project, the capstone requirement in partial fulfillment for the bachelor’s degree in liberal studies at North Carolina A&T State University. Included are an overview of the project, the rationale for choosing this topic, the design of this project, and the methods that will be used to conduct the research. This proposal also includes resources needed to complete this project, and an annotated bibliography that will be used as the core sources for the literature review I will write for the final paper. Overview and Purpose of the Research Project The role of women in combat has changed drastically over the years. Their inclusion in the military has increased followed by their involvement. However, the women are still limited in terms of what roles they are allowed to take. The general stigma against women depicts them as homemakers and their place in combat cannot exceed certain levels such as allowing them in the front line. There are other factors that have been linked to their limitation including their capacity to handle emotions, their need for extended leave when they get pregnant and their overall performance as compared to the men. People are constantly advocating for equal rights in men and women. In a bid to achieve that, women should be encouraged to uptake military positions...

Quantitative Article Critique

...University Abstract This paper is an academic critique of an article written by Colella and Gejerman (2013) titled: “Survivorship Health Information Counseling for Patients with Prostate Cancer.” The authors undertook a research study to examine whether specialized discharge education counseling increased prostate cancer patients satisfaction with their care and education related to their chronic health problems after radiation therapy. My examination systematically focuses on specific aspects of the article in terms of process and validity of research methods and results. I have attempted to develop a cohesive and unified explanation which not only expounds the particulars of the research but which also formulates a clear interpretation of that research throughout. I suggest that the lack of communication of the researchers in this article about their methods of sample selecting and data analysis greatly reduces the validity and generalizability of their findings. Critique of Colella & Gejerman’s Study “Survivorship Health Information Counseling for Patients with Prostate Cancer” In their article, “Survivorship Health Information Counseling for Patients with Prostate Cancer,” (Colella & Gejerman, 2013) outline a quasi-experimental research design involving two sample groups (one experimental and one control) of fifty-two males with prostate cancer that had undergone radiation...

Airbus & Boeing

...Airbus vs. Boeing Stuart Taylor Chris Tillmanns November 13, 2002 The airline manufacturing industry consists of only two firms, Airbus in Toulouse, France and the Chicago-based Boeing. Two recent research and development moves at the two firms offer an insight into the positioning strategy that each is taking in the future market place. It seems the two firms are accenting two niche markets with a pair of flagship products, neither of which are in direct competition with each other. This will allow for the firms to stave off price competition in the short term by differentiating product lines, which is desirable given the recent increase in buyer power gained by lowcost airlines. Current Market Position Airbus Airbus controls 46% of the market. 1 It was formed in the 1970’s as a consortium of European aerospace firms, and was integrated into a single company in 2001. It was designed by European nations to compete with the large American manufacturers and received subsidies from the various European governments. Their product line extends from the single aisle A320 to the larger, twin aisle A340. Boeing Boeing, naturally, currently controls the other 54% of the market for commercial aircraft in terms of value delivered, and its commercial unit took in $30.1 billion in 2001.2 It introduced the 747 Jumbo Jet in 1966 which revolutionized the concept of air travel due to its large size, and ushered in the era of mass air travel. In addition, it produces a wide range...
