Symbolism in the Golden Movie Beauty and the Beast
When one thinks of Beauty and the Beast, pictures may appear of a golden dress, a pink rose, or a Beast outfitted in blue. This brightly colored movie is a favorite for many Disney loving children and adults. In Beauty and the Beast, “the tale as old as time” is depicted through the symbolism of the carefully selected colors as Belle finds her way to the Beast.
The town’s people’s attire is dull: bleak browns, greens, and reds; this shows the conformity of the people and the simple mindedness of the town. Belle’s Papa’s green attire shows conformity as well. No matter how hard he tries to break out and be different, he is always sucked back and consumed by the poor provincial town. Then when Belle becomes happier in the castle, she is depicted in the same green because she is conforming to the castle life and ceasing to push back and long to be free. After connecting with Belle, the Beast changes into the same green. This wardrobe change represents the Beast’s desire to be what Belle wants and what he needs to be to break the spell. Gaston, the manly-man antagonist, is shown wearing a bright red shirt with a mustard collar. The mustard is a mock gold; this shows his need to be first, to be royal.
He craves the attention he rakes in. The red signifies hostility. The combination of these colors displays his selfish appetite for power. In the Beast’s introduction and throughout the beginning of the movie, he wears a red cape. Like Gaston’s red attire, it shows hostility. After being turned into a Beast, he is overcome with feelings of rage and selfhatred.

Pink and gold are the colors representing the people in the castle, and when Belle arrives at the castle, the dresser tries to costume Belle in Pink. She protests because she doesn’t want to be a part of the life there. Belle is later seen wearing...

The Good the Bad and the Sparkly

...irrevocably in love with him,” says Bella Swan in Twilight (Meyer 195). This sums up the major points of this book – vampires, love and self-control. Many parents feel that Twilight portrays unhealthy relationships and creates celebrity idol worship, both of which are believed to have a powerfully negative effect on society. These two people came together no differently than any normal human beings get together in high school, with mutual interests, like their knowledge of biology and their taste in music. Twilight encourages abstinence until marriage, and although the final novel, Breaking Dawn, has some underlying sexual themes, they purely pertain to the plot and are not described in scenes, only referenced to. Still, the books are far cleaner than what’s found in other books written for the same age range, television, movies, and magazines. The relationship between Bella and Edward is based on mostly compassion instead of the physical relationship that is portrayed on television. The media argues that all Twilight readers are infatuated with Edward Cullen, and buff hard body Jacob, yet most of the readers of the Twilight saga are not unhealthily obsessed with the characters or actors portraying them. Celebrity fixation has always been a part of teen culture, and hasn’t every generation had a teen heartthrob, do we remember, Elvis, Shawn Cassidy, The Beetles, New Kids of the Block? The New York Times review stated, "The premise of Twilight is attractive and compelling —......

Harry and Twilight

...There is a new war happening all over the world, but it is not world war three. It is a war that is waging between the fans of two extremely popular book series that have also made their way to the big screen and in to our homes. The fans of the Harry potter series and the fans of The Twilight Saga are feuding over which one is better. I have seen words thrown back and forth on social media sites such as facebook and twitter that you would think would belong to people arguing over some important political issue or something along those lines. Harry Potter and Twilight are two of the biggest selling franchises and should both be treated equally by the fans of either. Harry Potter is a seven book series written by author J.K. Rowling that takes place in Europe, in a magical fantasy version of today’s reality. The series targets older children and young adults, but has grown into a phenomenal fad that has fans from one to one hundred. The story follows a young boy, Harry Potter, throughout his years at a school for witchcraft and wizardry. The story line has ups and downs, twists and turns and details that bring the world of Harry Potter to life right in front of your eyes. The Twilight Saga is a four book series written by author Stephanie Meyer that takes place in Forks, Washington. This series targets a little older audience than Harry Potter does, reaching out to teenage readers and older. While the fan base for this series might not reach as young of a crowd, it......

English Review Paper

...In 2005, almost every female on Earth has the book Twilight by Stephanie Meyers. But yet, I don’t have a copy of that book myself. So what’s so special about this particular book that even the New York Times claims it to be the best seller? I’ve decided to go to Barnes and Noble and bought myself the famous first book of the Twilight Saga: Twilight. To me, the cover looks very plain, but also very mysterious. It makes me wonder why all these girls from ages 15 would and over wants to read a book that has a pair of hands holding a red apple. It made me feel like something is killing the innocence of something. Anyways, so as soon as I got my hands on that book, I actually didn’t bother to read the back of the book. I honestly think the book is going to be boring and pointless to even waste my time on. I don’t think I’m suppose to spoil this for anyone but Twilight is basically about this girl named Bella left her hometown to live with her dad in Forks for a while. She started going to school in Forks and met Edward, which sooner or later found out that Edward is a vampire and him and his family have been living there for centuries. I actually like this book because of the story line creating an image in your head that makes you feel like you are actually in it. Over all this is a pretty good...

New Moon

...NEW MOON New Moon is the second book that integrates part of the Twilight Saga written by Stephenie Meyer. Definitely a book that can steal more than a tear. The story is well known for the films that have come out, but definitely the book is a totally different experience. It all begins with Bella's 18th birthday, the protagonist. Its not a very good day for her because she ages older than Edward, her boyfriend. Although Bella does not want celebrate her birthday, Edward and his sister Alice, which become friends in Twilight, the first book in the series, manage to convince her to go to the Cullen house. Bella's birthday ends in a disaster when Bella cuts her finger opening a gift. This bleeding makes Jasper uncontrollable and attacks her, however he doesn’t get close enough to bit her. Edward gets to the conclusion that Bella would be better off without him, so he leaves a dramatic message saying: ITWILL AS IF I'D NEVER EXISTED. Bella goes into an intense depression that last a few months where she does not want to spend time with anyone, she just thinks about Edward 24 hours a day. During those months she resigns and begins to approach Jacob, feeling a little comfort to her pain. With him she did very dangerous things, but everything had a reason, she so masochistic that every time she risked her life she would hear the voice of her beloved Edward. Jacob was about to become the Bella's best friend when he started to ignore her calls. Unable to......

The lighting defines Aro making him stand out more; his eyes were noticeable blood shoot red while the appearance of Marcus and Caius were a bit blurred. I thought the lighting of the scene evokes fear, worry, and death of Bella and Edward. The use of back lighting made the focus on Belle clearer which gives me the impression that the director wanted to show the dissimilar of dead and living highlights to detail features of Bella’s rosy cheekbone. By using low-key lighting, this allows the film to have huge amounts of shadow which create a lot of intensity in the overall storyline of the film. The director’s choices of lighting create depth in the structure......

Twilight

...Twilight People that are compose of students, high educated, house wife, read the book s and novels first, and then go out to see the movies just to be able to put an image on what they had already imagine by reading the book. I personally have not read any of these books or novels in relation to the twilight saga, and not even watch any of the movies. However, curiosity has taken over me because I see so much propaganda about this new movie the Breaking Dawn that I have decided that in order to be able to see this movie that many are talking about I needed to get familiar with the whole drama from the beginning. That’s how I get to Twilight the very first movie, one of the reason why I didn’t have interest of the movie was because being a fictions movie, the setting is not that appealing well I guess we are talking about vampire and they can’t be in the light, so I guess it is not appealing to me watching movie with dark backgrounds, I guess living in Washington state is not either a place to be if you are a happy outgoing person they said if you want to be depress move to the west coast. The movie takes place in a small town called Forks in the state of Washington which claim to have populations of 3,120. The town seems to be very heartwarming where everyone knows each other and good things are the only thing that happens. Twilight Review

...NOTE: This review is the fair and unbiased opinion of someone with extremely little knowledge of the Twilight series. I watched the movie with a few die hard fans who I talked to after the movie, and I will work some of their thoughts into the review. Another much loved book series has been brought to life in the form of Twilight, which despite having nothing in common with the Harry Potter series, will undoubtedly draw comparisons because of the furor and craze surrounding it. The main difference between the two, however, is that the Harry Potter films are generally good and solid films. Twilight, despite having done a couple things right, is not. As a story, I will admit, Twilight is very catchy and interesting. Now I see what all the hype is about. If I was a young girl, I would go nuts over this stuff too. It's not just a vampire and a human falling in love with each other, but because of the two leads, it's one of the best on screen romances of the decade. This, however, is severely hurt by the fact that Twilight boasts easily some of the worst writing and editing I've ever seen. Let's not forget about the horrid VFX and pasty makeup, either. It's one of the cheesiest films of the year, and can definitely be put in the category of "so bad it's ALMOST good". Yes, I just invented that category. The 'allure' of the film appears to be the character played by Robert Pattinson, who ironically was previously known for his role in the Harry Potter series. Pattinson......
