If everybody stopped to read a book about their life, everybody would be reading a totally different book. Life is hard for most people, and for others it comes harder. My JROTC teacher Major Carthon says,” Life is rough, but it is rougher when you're stupid.” He is always saying that to me for some weird reason. Some people can fight through the trouble with humor while others sink into depression. I like to fill my world with humor and happiness; however, there will be tragic situations at least two times in our lives. If I wrote a book about my life, it would be a comedy and a tragic book. When I run into trouble, I tend to laugh in its face and walk away. When I was in high school, some of my “friends” tried to get in my car with some drugs. I laughed so hard in their face and drove away with them sitting on the sidewalk. When I get sick or in pain, I tend to laugh through the pain. A week ago, I woke up choking because my throat was closed. When I took my medicine, I started to laugh because I said to myself, “I am not going to go out like this!” When my mother is having a bad day at work, I would try my best to make her laugh. If my mom is sad, I would also get sad. However, I am not a sad person, so I try to make everybody cheerful when they are around me. When I was in high school I had a girlfriend. She would sometimes come to school gloomy. When I tried to cheer her up, she would get mad at me, but she already knew I wasn’t going to stop, so she would cheer up. The most tragic thing anyone can go through is someones elses death, rather it is their relative or a very close friend. Some people can walk it off, or some people can sink into depression. When my grandpa died two years ago, my mom took it to the heart for a week. She walked in off the next week like a champ. I took it a little bit harder. I was depressed for about three weeks or more; however, my mother told me to do something I loved more than anything, so my grandma, my mom, and I decided to bake a cake. Getting a divorce or even breaking up with someone is a tragic in its own way. Some people deals with breaks up in different ways. Some people deals with break-ups by talking it over with their friends while others cry away the pain. I had at least four girlfriends, but I have never cried over one until the last one. Most men cry over a girl after they broke up rather it is a mutual decision or not. When we broke up, it didn’t hit me when it happened; however, it hit me a month after. That was the second most tragic thing that happen to me. Everybody has tradics in their life; however, they need a lot of funny moment to fall back on. Without the funny moments some people might fall into depression, and that is not what families want. My life has a little bit of tragedy, but thanks to my funny and loving family I don’t have to do anything alone. That is what everybody need in their life a family that they can go to about anything.

...relations between the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America. As one of the oldest Asian partners and closest strategic major non-NATO allies of the United States, the Philippines has consistently been the most pro-American nation in the world, with 90% of Filipinos viewing the U.S. and 91% viewing Americans favorably in 2002, and 90% of Filipinos viewing U.S. influence positively in 2011. Pursuant to the 1947 Military Bases Agreement, the United States maintained and operated major facilities at Clark Air Base until November 1991, and at Subic Bay Naval Complex and several small subsidiary installations in the Philippines until November 1992. In July 1991, negotiators from the two countries reached agreement on a draft treaty providing for the clean-up and turnover of Clark to the Philippine government in 1992, and for the lease of Subic Bay Naval Base by the U.S. for 10 years. By 1991, operations at Clark had already been scaled back because of the end of the Cold War, with the last combat aircraft leaving in 1990, before the base was heavily damaged by the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo. On September 16, 1991, the Philippine Senate rejected the bases treaty by a slim margin, and despite further efforts to salvage the situation, the two sides could not reach an agreement. As a result, the Philippine Government informed the U.S. on December 6, 1991, that it would have one year to complete withdrawal. That withdrawal went smoothly and was completed ahead of...

...was breathless and ragged, and his words stopped my heart. "Susan—this is an emergency! Call me back immediately!" The level of pain in his voice could mean only one thing: Something had happened to one of our sons. In the seconds that passed as I picked up the phone and dialed our house, panic swelled within me; it felt as though millions of tiny needles were pricking my skin. My heart pounded in my ears. My hands began shaking. I tried to orient myself. One of my boys was at school and the other was at work. It was the lunch hour. Had there been a car accident? When my husband picked up the phone, he shouted, "Listen to the television!"—then held out the receiver so I could hear. I couldn't understand the words being broadcast, but the fact that whatever had happened was big enough to be on TV filled me with terror. Were we at war? Was our country under nuclear attack? "What's happening?" I shrieked. He came back on the line and poured out what he'd just learned during a distraught call from a close friend of our 17-year-old son, Dylan: There was some kind of shooting at the high school…gunmen in black trenchcoats were firing at people…the friend knew all the kids who wore trenchcoats, and all were accounted for except Dylan and his friend Eric…and Dylan and Eric hadn't been in class that morning…and no one knew where they were. My husband had told himself that if he found the coat, Dylan couldn't be involved. He'd torn the...

Two Birds with One Stone

...Elyse DeLaney Professor Kate Kelly Religious Studies October 28, 2012 Two Birds with One Stone: An Essay of War and Compassion in Three Vonnegut Novels It is only the dead who have seen the end of war. -Plato Vonnegut prides himself on writing novels with science fiction elements and three of his novels, Player Piano (PP), God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater (GB), and Hocus Pocus (HP) are prime examples of war and compassion. Vonnegut’s critique of war reveals that he considers compassion to be the most sacred aspect of human life. In Player Piano, the novel’s protagonist, Dr. Paul Proteus (PP 23) is forced to choose between the successes of his company or become the leader of a rebellion against the machine society. People are slowly, but surely, being replaced by machines and artificial “workers,” such as automated tellers at banks and self-checkouts at groceries. Vonnegut uses this movement of mechanization in the 1950’s and responds to the dehumanization in this novel. Machines and computers have eliminated the need for industrial laborers after the Second Industrial Revolution and society is then split into two unequal classes: manager and engineers of the machines and the rest of the population that live without happiness or dignity. The two unequal classes is just one example of war in Player Piano. The two populations live in segregation, with the north side of the river saved for the upper class and the south side of the river, or Homestead, are where...

Two Sides to One Story

...Jorge Diaz December 16, 2011 Period 1 AP World History Mr. Liles Two Sides to One Story The lineage of Abraham, Isaac-and Ishmael, a story of life and death, in two different perspectives, but which one is correct? The Quran does not state the name of the son that Abraham was commanded to sacrifice by Allah (The Quran. New Delhi 37:99–113), in the Bible Abraham is commanded to sacrifice his son Isaac (Bible 22;5, 8). Islamic scholars believe that the son promised to Abraham was Isaac, but when Allah commands Abraham to kill his only son, knowing that Ishmael was born first, this is the son Allah wanted Abraham to sacrifice (islamreligion.com). Judeo-Christian scholars will argue that Ishmael is not a direct son to Abraham as he was born from a servant, commonly explained as from a concubine (islamreligion.com). One might bring themselves to believe automatically what religion they are more inclined towards, whether it be; Christianity or Islam, as there is no legitimate answer to the question-was Isaac the “chosen” son, or was it Ishmael? In reality no one will ever come to agree on this question, as this is a question which touches emotional and stable foundations in ones life. The story of Abraham and Isaac in both Christianity and Islam states that the promised son was Isaac, and that Ishmael was conceived from a servant, but they both differ in who was the chosen son. This eludes to a more prominent question...

Two Leaders One Goal

...Two Leaders: One Goal Juan Camilo Perez University of Phoenix University Academic Writing ENG/220 Pamela Pruett March 08, 2015 Two Leaders: One Goal World War II is considered, by many, the most significant event of the 20th century. It was a turning point in history; one that united the world, saved democracy and changed international affairs. The defeat of Hitler and his allies would not have been possible without the leadership and collaboration of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Sir Winston Churchill. Both of them, viewed by their constituents as their only hope, came into power at a time of crisis. America was going through the Great Depression, and Britain was in Hitler's line of sight for invasion. These very different characters came together at the height of Hitler's plan to destroy all democracies. Roosevelt's calculative personality, Churchill’s strategic impulsiveness and their clear focus on the mission, slowly but surely led the allies to victory and the ultimate elimination of Hitler and his army. America’s leader during World War II was a result driven individual, capable of making difficult decisions and taking necessary measures to protect his country even if meant losing the support of his constituents. Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) was elected as a 32nd President of the United States in 1932.("FDR Biography," n.d.) He came into office in the aftermath of World War I and the middle of the Great Depression. Using his experience as New York State Senator, Assistant...
