“Two Ways Of Looking At Smoking”

The word “cigarette” is a very hard word for those who don’t smoke. They think this act is useless and there are no benefits. Some people think it is a social thing, they only smoke when they’re at parties or drinking wherever they are; they can’t drink without smoking. Others say it’s not bad that it does in fact make you a more relaxed person and makes the skin looks better. There are many stories about smoking, I smoke and what it means to me is not any of the previous reasons, and I’m not saying it is good to do it, but I have my own opinion about it. I started to smoke when I turned 18 years old, because in Mexico there are too many people who do that, and it doesn’t mean I had to, but you become more easily attached to this product when everybody does it. I’ve always been surrounded by people like this, so I thought “what can I lose?” and started the process. You begin to smoke when you think there’s nothing wrong with doing it. You tell yourself “Ok, if she does it, I don’t think it would be bad for me to try it”, so you start generally with your friends. They tell you that if you don’t like it, you can just stop doing it. The first time I tried it I coughed, which is the most common reaction in the first three or four times you do it. I was watching my friend Natalia do it and I could not believe what she did. She made it look so easy to do, but I saw how that stick was burning down and like magic it came out in a ghost shape; it was too much for me. When you try it once you may not like it because it’s not a nice taste. It’s a unknown thing you have never experienced and you’ll say “Ew, I won’t try this again” but the thing is that teenagers are so manipulative and if you don’t do it again they may say to you “Okay, you’re gay” or laugh at you, because they want you to do what they do that is wrong, and they know it,

Betty And Betty: A Literary Analysis

...pattern and indentation and yet very similar to the others. If you narrow your focus you’ll see two sets of prints. One set belongs to Betty, a woman in an old care facility with a lifetime of experiences. The other set belongs to Raquel, a middle-aged woman with lots of experiences behind her and with much more ahead. These footprints are the life stories these two women have, and after looking at each set of prints we can compare and contrast them to get a glimpse of what is important in life and some of the meaning life has. Looking at Raquel’s and Betty’s footprints – their past – we can see, at least to them, the people...

Laptops

...How good is the battery life? Is this a high-definition display? If I need a bigger hard drive, which brands carry that capacity? Is a keyboard enough, or should I splurge for the touchpad/keyboard combo? Do you have any that aren’t this heavy? These are all question I heard from consumers who were looking to buy a new laptop. Laptops have become a necessity to many these days. With a technological world that is rapidly expanding, desktops have become out-of-date, and consumers are demanding laptops with grand capabilities fit into a small package. The vast amount of options out there give consumers a variety of options to choose from. Consumers demand different qualities from their laptop whether it is processing, durability, battery life, display, and a variety of other options. This paper will discuss the present displays being used in stores to promote the products, what consumers voice in terms of what they want in a laptop, and primarily what brands can do to further help their sales. For this specific paper, I will be looking at Dell as the targeted brand. Dell was once the dominant presence is the computer industry, but their market share is diminishing constantly. My goal in this research is to determine what Dell is doing wrong if anything, and what they can do with their brand and products to regain their lost market share. The first store I stopped out to see their laptop display was Best Buy. Best Buy is one of the leading electronic stores in the nation, and is...

...black men to wear during this time period. “LULA What’ve you got that jacket and tie on in all this heat for? And why’re wearing a jacket and tie like that? Did your people ever burn witches or start revolution over the price of tea? Boy, those narrow-shoulder clothes come from a tradition you ought to feel oppressed by. A three-button suit. What right do you have to be wearing a three-button suit and striped tie? Your grandfather was a slave, he didn’t go to Harvard.” (The Dutchman) Clay’s suit is a representation of how he is trying to assimilate into white society. By wearing a fancy suit he believes he will fit into the white society. Clay is playing a part and only acting this way because society wants him to, which represents double consciousness. Clay is not looking at himself a negro, he is looking at himself as a black man who must assimilate into the white society. He is trying to create the image that he believes society wants him to...

This course has a lot to do with my future not only does this relate directly to what I'm looking to do with the rest of my life but this also has helped me understand entirely how and what ways I should speak to people. For example this came in big help just today when at work I had a situation with an employee who was taking medication that was prescribed to him now when taking this medication it altered his being he was a different person in the way he reacted was different in which I did not care for. Now when looking back on this course and thinking about things that were presented to us throughout all the readings that we have done I realize that I needed to sit back and think about what I was going to say before I set it so that everything that had come out of my mouth was entirely professional and legal before I had said anything. Through the Readings This is not only the way that this course has helped me this is also help me it drastically with my public speaking when speaking two groups of people larger than one or two this is help me understand exactly how I should present it and what type of materials I should be presenting to these people as well. Difference Between Servers and Workstations

...show you these differences. While looking into these comparisons, I have realized there are not too many similarities of the two. So the following is the information that I have found while looking the information up about servers, and workstations. Let’s start with the definition of the two. The server is a type of application and/or device that will provide a service for the connected clients as part of the client server architecture. A server is designed particularly for networking. While, a workstation is a computer that is being used to power applications such as graphic art, video editing, or other CPU/RAM software. These are two completely different definitions. Moving onto the functions and operating systems of these two categories the only similarity you will see in both is Linux. Besides that they are different. The server has the functions of Internet, Office, Education, and Home networks. The workstation has functions of, business, Design, Engineering, and Multi-Media Production. With the Operating systems the server side has Free BSD, Solaris, Linux, and Windows server. On the other side with the Workstation it is Unix, Linux, and Windows workstation. Looking at the information provided, does show that there are definite differences between the two. They should not be comparable on to many levels at all. Out of everything provided there was only one similarity. That leaves me with, after looking at the information, that both are devices...

Oppression Of People Of Color Analysis

...this way or is going to be racist. This is a statement that the majority feel that black individuals are more of a threat. This leads to the idea that the police department is controlling the foundation of their work. This is the same way that other populations are oppressed. Group think is that once a group of individuals are placed within a group they begin to think and act in the same ways. In regard to police officers, this is thinking that black individuals are more of a threat. This leads to fatal shootings instead of trying other means of taking a suspect down. This is also why the impression given by the media is so important because when looking at the articles of some of the shootings, it is said ve in a matter of a fact kind of way that it was a black...

Sent of a Women

... Advertisers must use a variety of tactics to sell women’s perfume in order to appeal to the different types and personalities of today’s women. Many perfume ad campaigns nowadays use simple women doing simple things but clearly enjoying it. The ad campaign for Clinique’s perfume lines is a very good example of this. In the May issue of Teen People, the ad for Clinique’s perfume, “Happy,” shows a woman wearing a sleeveless turtleneck sweater. Although not clearly shown, the girl seems to have a huge smile on her face but is hidden behind her turtleneck. The caption of the ad says “Clinique happy.” Although it is a simple ad, it deems as effective toward women. Featured in a magazine targeted to teens, the girl in the ad is young looking, which would relate to teens. As for older women, it would appeal to them as well so they too can feel young and fresh again. Another ad for a Clinique perfume is for “Simply,” found in Cosmopolitan magazine. The name of the perfume alone, says it all. The ad shows a bottle of the “Simply” perfume set on top of a table with a woman’s fingertips lingering on top of the bottle. This ad doesn’t even use a woman’s face, which is a different approach from many other perfume ads. The entire ad looks to be of one shade, like a golden skin tone color, which shows a...

Cranes by Peter Meinke

...she referring to? Slowly, more details are given when he “picked up an object wrapped in a plaid towel” and gives the toast “here’s looking at you kid.” Although not directly stated, the implication is that they drank something. Again indirectly, but toward the end we see the symbolic cranes “stepping delicately away from the commotion,” mirroring the couple’s separation from their life. After they kiss, their eyes close, and the cranes fly away into the sun. The implication, though never direct, is that our couple decided to end their lives together Aha! A gun makes so much more sense! I think I just found it hard to accept that method for suicide given the tone of the article. Thanks. 1. I agree. I thought he was going to use a gun because of the hints about the shower curtain and something for your ears. I believe it was a gun and the shower curtain is there at the woman's request. She states, "I'm just a lot of trouble to everyone." I believe this statement also points to the man shooting her first This is an extremely sad, yet very romantic story about two people in love. They are in a parked car along the shore looking at birds. She is fascinated with the big white birds that are flying by, and they start reminiscing about the past. It is easy to tell how much they still love each other after all the years that have passed, by the way they have a playful banter with each other. The story is about an older couple who drives out to a marshy shoreline to kill themselves...

...Changes That Need To Be Made To Our School Menus The state school board has decided that we need to look into redoing the breakfast and lunch menus we prepare for our students at our schools. We want to start adding more healthier food choices, but still include food that every student will enjoy. The state school board believes that the changes we are looking to implement will vastly improve the menu in ways that will only aid in several different issues that have been brought to our attention. Things such as the cost and the ability to cater to individuals who may have special diets. We are only looking out for the health and well-being of the current and future generations of students. This is our number one concern and certain steps are being taken to insure that the students in our schools get the best possible options. Today 15% of students ages 6-19 are overweight (sustainabletable.org, childhood obesity, n.d.). One out of three kids will get type two diabetes (foodsecurity,n.d.). The process will start by removing most of the current kitchen equipment and replacing it with ovens, stoves, and ample counter space. Which will enable us to prepare and cook the new healthier meals for our students. The change will require more time and effort from our kitchen staff thus creating more job openings and job security. While the initial costs may at first be quite extensive, we are very confident that the overall costs will even out within a short time frame. The meals eventually...

Mgt 426 Week 2

...hiring new management, they will do this one of two ways. These two methods refer to the type of change a company can use, continuous or discontinuous change. But first we need to look at what these types of changes are and how they can relate to Nationwide Life Insurance's possible new approach to hiring new management. Continuous change by definition are changes that are expected and understood by the company. When looking at the Nationwide example, continuous changes are the ones that they have been doing for years. These are the hiring of the same types of managers like they have in years past. But since it's been proposed to hire a different breed of managers this kind of change is not the appropriate one for this example. Discontinuous change is a sudden change that goes outside of the traditional norm of the company's direction. These types of changes threaten traditional authority or power structure because it drastically alters the way things are currently done or have been done for years. Looking at Nationwide's proposed change of hiring managers who know the technical side of the job, this is the kind of change they should be using. Any recent hiring of managers at Nationwide Life Insurance has been ones that have no background of life insurance. These types managers can be good leaders but with no knowledge of the kind of work a company knows can cause disruption within the workplace. When looking at the two types of change, continuous and discontinuous...
