He walked out of room and walked over to the potty chair. Curling both hands into a fist around his waistband Max bent over pulled down his underwear then plopped down on toilet seat. Max rocked back and forth humming to himself and looked around the room. Next, without wiping, he got up, bent over grasping his underwear with both hands, scrunched both hands into fist to pull up his underwear. He wiggled his hips until underwear was on straight and ran into the kitchen and told his mother, “I used potty.” Max then headed to his playroom in the den, grabbed a book “What is the color?” He placed the book on the floor turned the pages with right hand, pointed with his right index finger naming red, blue, yellow, and green. Next, Max got up, started running around the room and singing parts of the alphabet until his mother called him for lunch. He told his mother “I am hungry,” until his plate of half a grilled cheese and cheetos was placed in front of him.

Communication Theory

...Melodie A. Ellis HCS/320 - HEALTH CARE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES Instructor: POLLY HANSON March 12, 2012 Communication Theory Communication is one way we all communicate with each other. In my house hold we have a 2 year old, disabled military vet who is 22, 54 year old with cancer, another military vet who is 25 and I. I live in West Virginia and yet I have a different culture than the people who live in my house. I am originally from upstate New York. I have never worked in the health care field but I do know what it is like to have to have good communication with people who are not only a different gender but come from different cultures as well. When it comes to gender there is always a different way of communicating. Men and women communicated very differently. When you add in culture differences into the gender aspect you can have some communication bumps that might come up along the way. I think our age and life experiences also play a part in the way we communicate with others. For example, in my house the 22 disabled vet has a more aggressive way of communicating. I am not sure if it is his age, gender or life experiences. Maybe a combination of all of them put together. My 2 year old son has a speech delay of 25% and is hard to understand a lot of the time. The 54 year old with cancer has a more introverted way of communicating with people. He often comes off as very calm, soft spoken and gentle. I myself have a more brutal honest approach when I communicate...

Buying Motives

...Memorandum To: National Toy Manufacturer From: Marketing, Inc. Date: September 3, 2012 ------------------------------------------------- Subject: New line of Educational Toys for kids aged 7-9 Introduction Marketing, Inc. has been hired to create a new line of educational toys for kids aged 7-10 years old. Marketing, Inc. will help National Toy Manufacturer (NTM) develop a marketing communication plan for the new educational toys. For Marketing, Inc. and NTM to be successful, Marketing, Inc. will focus on two key areas, demographics and psychographics of the target population. It is often stated that while demographics determine consumers’ needs for products (e.g., males and females need and buy different products) and the ability to buy them (e.g., income), psychographics explain buyers’ purchase decisions and the choices they make within the buying options available to them (Schiffman & Kanuk, 2010). Marketing, Inc. will use age and income as its two demographics and buying motives and values as its two psychographics for this marketing communication plan. Demographics Demographics offer four reasons why they are the core to almost all segmentations; (1) demographics are easy to classify people and can be measured more precisely than other segmentation basis; (2) cost effective way to locate and reach specific segments because most of the secondary data compiled about any population is based on demographics; (3) demographics enable marketers to identify business...

...For the purpose of this essay, I interviewed eight informants, both close friends and family members, at length about recent ailments or illnesses they have suffered from. I received much detail about symptoms, treatments, and continuing processes they do to prevent the ailment from reoccurring. After a thorough investigation, I was able to compare the informant’s ailments and remedies against each other and also to Marsha Quilan’s research in her ethnography From the Bush: The Front Line of Health Care in a Caribbean Village. Informant 1, an 18 year old male, recently suffered from an ear infection. This informant has suffered from ear infections most of his toddler life. As a young child, at the age of 19 months, this informant got PE tubes inserted into bilateral ears, yet the ear infections kept reoccurring. That is when his mother began to use natural garlic oil to treat his ear infections. After the first time using it, this informant claims he never had to go to the doctor again for treatment, and his ear infections occurred less frequently and eventually subsided. The most recent infection this informant battled with was pretty typical for him. He got his usual symptoms of a mild earache accompanied with some purulent discharge from his left ear canal. This informant told me that he did not want to use antibiotics to remedy his ear infections. He deferred to his mother’s treatment of using a couple drops of garlic oil. This informant administered a couple drops of natural...

My wife's culture background is of Italian heritage, while my family is composed of Irish heritage. My wife's family consists of her father, step-mother an one sibling who is younger than my wife. Her parents divorced when she was 12 years old. She is full blooded italian. My family consists of my two sisters and my niece. My sisters and I are separated by three years difference, me being the middle child. My niece is my older sisters daughter. My parents divorced when I five years old and my father never played a role in our lives after the divorce. Our mother passed away from cancer in June 2008. When looking at the two families there are many similarities that we share. First is that we are all very hard working people. This I believe is a very common trait amongst the two cultures. My wife's parents continue to work well past their retirement years. She and her brother both have successful careers. My wife's family is a very proud family who look out for one another. They are always there for each other in a time of need. My family is also very successful in the careers they have chooses and are also a very proud family who are always there for each other. Another similarity between the two families is that we both have a common religious bond in that we are Roman Catholic. Growing up my wife's family as well as mine went to church...

Both his father and his mother had multiple jobs to try and put food on the table, when he was 12 years old he got his own job to help pay the mortgage on the house. He later went to a seminary school to become a priest. It was during that time that he met my grandmother, Lisa, fell in love and eventually married her. They have been married for 40 years and have two daughters. Battson answered every question completely, his answers were concise and straight to the point. When asked about touchy or emotional subjects the answers became clipped and short. It was obvious that they did not want to be talked about and it was very clear that if pressed he would stop the interview all together.
