Type of Friends

...raised me to recognize and appreciate various kinds of friends. There are three different kinds of friends in this life. I classify them according to how well I know them and how well they know me. We encounter each of them everyday, whether in school, home, or at the gym. However, we rarely spend much time actually thinking about and classifying these people. First, there are the "pest friends" general acquaintances. Next, there are "guest friends" social partners. Lastly, we have "best friends" our true friends. The first type of friend is simply an acquaintance. This means that you basically only know their name. You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. Usually, you meet these types of friends in school, at work, on the bus, in the gym, or anywhere else you might be. You normally would not mind having a cup of coffee with them, but if anything else came up, you usually would have no problem parting company. You normally don't miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friends who give you the most amount of aggravation. Since most of the time you are placed in a position where you have to act friendly, such as school or work, you would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something aggravating, such as tapping the fingers on a table or chewing gum loudly. This is why I call them "pest friends." The second kind of friend is "guest friends", this is typically the people you call if......

Different Types of Friends Essay

..."Life without a friend is like death without a witness." -Spanish Proverb. We all have friends, different people have different tastes and temperaments and hence make different types of friends. They tend to bond with some and stay away from some. With time and growing trust, some people get really close to each other and remain true friends. They stand up for each other in times of need and provide full support when you lose confidence in yourself. However, every friend is not the same type. One might have more close friends than acquiantenaces, while others might have more acquaintenaces than close friends, but either way, majority of people that develop great friendships either fall into one of the categories, or even each of the three categories: best friends, close friends, and acquaintences. Every person has a best friend, if not more. They are your absolute closest friends in ife, and you wouldn't give them up for anyone else. This kind of friend is your nonromantic soulmate. You do everything together and can talk about ingrown hairs without getting grossed out. These are the people that you will grow old with. Friends in this category are usually very few, ranging from 1 to 5, depending on your popularity. Furthermore, a best friend will be there to support us during our struggles and obstacles in life. You can talk to eachother about anything and everything, without feeling embarassed. Whether they are very opposite or similar, generally they never run out...

6 Types of Toxic Friends

...1. The Promise Breaker This friend constantly disappoints you or breaks promises, most likely because she herself was constantly disappointed during her formative years. Your friend is unable to stop herself from repeating that pattern. It is an annoying but comfortable pattern for your friend, and without psychological help, it may be hard for her or him to alter this pattern. You could abandon the friend and the friendship, or you could find a way to detach yourself by lowering your expectations for this friendship. If she promises to do something for you, even to meet you for a cup of coffee, you can say, "Sure," but protect yourself by knowing, in the back of your mind, that this friend "nine times out of 10" is going to cancel on you. Although your friend may always have been this way, she may have also recently acquired this trait because of something she is going through right now. If a friend who has always been there for you, through thick and thin, has only recently become less reliable, you might want to cut her some slack. You have to decide if this is a lifelong trait that will be hard or impossible to change, a temporary condition that will be short-lived, or something, if it does continue indefinitely, that you are willing to accept and handle. One way to try to change the Promise Breaker is to help her to understand the consequences of your ignored pledges. Perhaps you have been keeping your disappointments about this to yourself. Try telling her how it...

Interpersonal Communications

...life, it is essential that each relationship type gets the full attention that it deserves. One of the types of relationships that is most common in the United States is known as “friends with benefits.” This “friends with benefits” type of relationship is a complex relationship that is typically grouped with another type that is known as casual hook ups, but this grouping is done erroneously because they are two very different types of relationships. Friends with benefits is a type of relationship that is defined as an understanding between two people that are friends and choose to engage in sexual behaviors while holding no emotional ties or feeling obligated to be committed to one another. This definition allows us to see that a friends with benefits relationship is more complex than a casual hook up. The reason that most people tend to confuse the two is because they both disassociate sexual actions from romance and feelings, but that is where the similarities end. A casual hook up is also known as a one night stand. Most casual hook ups involve sleeping with different people, many times an acquaintance or even a stranger, and usually occurs as a spur of the moment. It would just be for that night and after that you would go your separate ways. Studies show that when participating in one of these hook ups the two people will not engage in intimate activities such as kissing, oral sex, hugging, talking etc. Where as a friend with benefits relationship is an......

Friend Essay

...Animal species of friends Friends are a group of people in your life that you choose to surround yourself with. Here are some of the types of friends that I have classified: outgoing, spontaneous, shy, and ruthless. I have had all different kinds of friends in the past couple years so I have become introduced to the stereotypes there are. There have been times I have gotten myself into trouble with befriending the bad ones and had some of the best memories with the good ones. There are many types of friends but the best ones are outgoing and spontaneous. The slow sloth: This friend is shy and quiet. Can be seen lying on the couch lounging around a lot. Like a sloth this friend lives a slow life with little adventure. They can be boring, unsocial, and lazy. The slow sloth will make excuses when asked out. They will say “I am tired” or “I’m not feeling well” to escape from going out and socializing with other people. This sloth might just put a damper in your lifestyle. As an introvert friend I’m sure there is definite jealousy over the “Courageous lion”. The courageous lion: An outgoing and joyous person who adapts to any situation. This friend always has your attention and is constantly surrounded by people. You will almost never find this friend at home on the weekends for they love to go out and socialize. Like a lion this friend comes in packs because everyone loves to be around them. Although an outgoing friend is like a spontaneous friend there are some......

Nichomachean Ethics

...Date Nicomachean ethics This is a book by Aristotle and is often regarded as the best work on ethics. In this book, Aristotle focuses on the different types of friendship, how the friendships form, and how long they last depending on the reasons for the friendship. This paper will focus on the types of friendship as advanced by Aristotle, illustrate what he meant by saying friendship based on virtue and my views towards this subject. Aristotle differentiates between three types of friendship. First, he singles out mutual, recognized love among people with respect for one another. Their friendship is for mutual benefit. They love each other for the good they get from each other. These kinds of friends wish each other well in respect of the love they have for one another. The second class of friends according to Aristotle is those who love for pleasure. They do not get into friendship because they admire each other’s character but because they derive pleasure from one another. In this type of friendship, one looks at the pleasure that is derivable from the friend. The friendship continues as long as there is pleasure derived. For this reason, this type of friendship is only incidental. The friendship dissolves away easily in case one friend ceases to get the pleasure previously derived or if one of the friends changes in character. If one party ceases to be pleasant and useful, the other party withdraws from the friendship. Aristotle argues that the old follow......

Aristotle

...Tiffany Zelaya Word Count (1000) Aristotle: The Three Types of Friendship If there is one thing that can be used to describe human beings aside from intelligence and the power of destruction it would be that we are entirely social beings. No person is to live a life without being social. It merely would be impossible and for those who do find themselves in the state of rejecting society and a social lifestyle, it would be those who have psychological disorders. With us being social it leads to the search of companionship. The reality is that we all want friendships. According to the great Greek philosopher Aristotle, we are complete social beings and seek friendship. Aristotle argues that there are three main kinds of friendship. The first kind of friendship is that one based on Utility. What is a friendship based on usefulness? I would describe a friendship based on utility as being for one that gets something in return for another’s actions. For example, if there is someone at school that always gets great grades on exams and for that reason I befriend that person in return to get help on my exams and the other person accepts if I drive them home from school, it builds as a friendship based on convenience. This friendship only exists because the individuals involved have a reason to do something for each other. Aristotle believes this friendship doesn't work and won't last. I highly agree for the reason that once the favors and usefulness of the other person......

Friendship

...Friendship is the most wonderful relationship that anyone can have. Ideally a friend is a person who offers love and respect and will never leave or betray us. Friends can tell harsh truths when they must be told. There are four different types of friends: True friends, Convenient friends, Special interest friends, and historical friends. To have friendship is to have comfort. In times of crisis and depression, a friend is there to calm us and to help lift up our spirits. There are many illustrations that show why a friend can be a great comforter. For example, if a student is going through a hard time at school, a friend can offer guidance, encouragement and support. A true friend is also someone who loves and respects us. A boyfriend and a girlfriend desire to be with each other. They love each other so much that they just want to be with each other as much as possible. This bond is also present in a good friendship because it has genuine love. Also, as friends they respect each other. They try to avoid causing conflicts. They don’t make fun of each other, but treat each other with respect. As friends, we all make sacrifices for each other. Some friends risk their lives for a friend. An example of this true friendship can be found in the movie, American Pie. Todd had a championship football game, but on the same day there was an All-State choir going on. Todd and his girlfriend were both into choir. He couldn’t be in two places at once, so he gave up his......

When Harry met Sally is a 1989 film in relation to the creation of a relationship; it is a romantic comedy. The two main characters are friends for a period of twelve years before becoming lovers. What Is Friendship

...Means to Be a Friend By Cherie Burbach When it comes to finding friends, perhaps the first step is understanding what exactly friendship is. Does it mean you have each other in your Facebook list? Or that you see each other every Tuesday when you play racquetball? Not really. A relationship needs to have some key elements in order to be labeled as friendship. A Personal Relationship That Is Reciprocated It's not enough to see a person at, say, book group each week and enjoy their company. In order for a friend to truly be considered a friend, he or she has to also believe you are their friend also. This can get tricky, because most people have a different idea of what friendship really means. Some people are instantly trusting of new people, and accept them into their heart without question. For these types of folks, they assume someone is their friend until they find out otherwise. The Difference Between Being Friends and Acting Friendly Other people, however, might act "friendly" with someone but not consider them a friend for quite a while. Perhaps these types of people need to get know someone better before they even consider labeling them as a friend. Or perhaps they already have a lot of friends and therefore wouldn't consider someone they occasionally at social events a friend. It's a not perfect world, but in terms of friendship, someone who is genuinely a friend usually: • Has told you that you are a friend or has introduced you as their friend. • Has......
