This incident has impacted me personally, in a negative fashion. Prior to this incident I did not even know that UNLV has an office of student conduct. I would have been happy to graduate not knowing that this office existed. This incident has impacted the instructor, chairman of the journalism department, dean of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs, as well as my family. This is a situation that they all had to deal with. Now in hindsight, I could of made a different decision and cited the Three Square website for the information regarding Brian Burton and his biography. The decision to make sure everything is cited, including PR material in the future will ensure that I do not have another similar violation of the Student Conduct

Casino Gambling however have impacted negatively on the society. Casino Gambling is considered to very addictive and some even argues that it destroys the social fabrics in a society (Kae and De, 2012). According to Ng (2011), casino gambling since the inception of two resort centers has taken shape in Singapore. Gambling is a legal activity that has economic value and pumps money through taxes into the economy (Tse, Hong and Ng, 2013; Case, 2011). Casinos also offer employment to many people making it even more beneficial in an economy. The government is blinded by everything for the simple reason that more addiction among gamblers drives more profits in terms of taxes for the government. It is the responsibility of businesses to be socially responsible and has activities that in anyway can degrade the moral values, beliefs and behaviors of people. Access to casino gambling as much as it is beneficial, has several risks in the society. The most notable of all the effects is destruction of relationships. The society is made of bonds that bound people together and make them work together. Gambling however is a threat to these bonds in that 2 addicts tend to avoid people...

Ceo Compensation

...reform tend to support those who believe it is unfair. We have evaluated the current standards of CEO compensation and examined why both sides think they should prevail. There are some advantages that strongly support CEO’s huge salaries, including the following: * Provides incentives and motivates the CEO to obtain or surpass corporate objectives * Retains key-value leaders for the long-term, resulting in consistent corporate success * Creates a strong CEO confidence for him/her to reinvest in the corporation (bonds) Our overall research indicates that CEO compensation does not reflect actual performance in most cases. Many CEO’s are grossly over compensated (including stock options, bonuses, hedge funds, and other benefits). The “Golden Parachute” guarantee adds insult to injury. Based on our research, conducted from the UNLV Library periodicals database and online sources, we recommend the following: * Require corporations to adhere to sections 951, 953, 955 and 956 of the Dodd-Frank Bill * Maintain a collective (“Esprit de corps”) work force environment for all employees * Consult third party professional payroll agencies that evaluate and determine appropriate salaries The goal of our research is to reveal the best solutions to optimize corporate payroll risk management that will promote steady growth for corporations, their leaders and work force. Why Do Chinese Gamblers Addicted to Gambling?

...Clinical Psychology Review 28 (2008) 1152–1166 Contents lists available at ScienceDirect Clinical Psychology Review Gambling among the Chinese: A comprehensive review Jasmine M.Y. Thus, this paper attempts to fill this theoretical gap. A literature search of social sciences databases (from 1840 to now) yielded 25 articles with a total sample of 12,848 Chinese community participants and 3397 clinical participants. The major findings were: (1) Social gambling is widespread among Chinese communities as it is a preferred form of entertainment. (2) Prevalence estimates for PG have increased over the years and currently ranged from 2.5% to 4.0%. (3) Chinese problem gamblers consistently have difficulty admitting their issue and seeking professional help for fear of losing respect. (4) Theories, assessments, and interventions developed in the West are currently used to explain and treat PG among the Chinese. There is an urgent need for theory-based interventions specifically tailored for Chinese problem gamblers. (5) Cultural differences exist in patterns of gambling when compared...

Impact of Past Crises on Current Crisis Communication

...Coombs / SITUATIONAL COMMUNICATION JOURNAL OF BUSINESSCRISIS COMMUNICATION THEORY 10.1177/0021943604265607 IMPACT OF PAST CRISES ON CURRENT CRISIS COMMUNICATION Insights From Situational Crisis Communication Theory W. Timothy Coombs Eastern Illinois University Previous research based on Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) suggests that an organization’s past crises history affects the reputational threat posed by a current crisis when that crisis results from intentional acts by the organization. The study reported on in this article provides a wider test of crisis history to better assess its role in crisis communication. Results from the present investigation showed that a history of similar crises intensified the reputational threat of a current crisis even when the crisis arose from the victimization of the organization or from an accident, rather than from the organization’s intentional acts. The threat to reputation was primarily direct, rather than indirect, through perceived responsibility for the crisis. There was little difference in the perceptions of organizations identified as having had no history of past similar crises versus those for whom no information about past crises was provided. Perception of an organization’s responsibility was negatively correlated with the perceived impact on reputation. Implications for the practice of crisis communication and further development of SCCT are discussed. Keywords: crisis; communication; management;...

The origins and evolution of research on event tourism are pinpointed through both chronological and thematic literature reviews. A conceptual model of the core phenomenon and key themes in event tourism studies is provided as a framework for spurring theoretical advancement, identifying research gaps, and assisting professional practice. Conclusions are in two parts: a discussion of implications for the practice of event management and tourism, and implications are drawn for advancing theory in event tourism. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Introduction Events are an important motivator of tourism, and figure prominently in the development and marketing plans of most destinations. The roles and impacts of planned events within tourism have been well documented, and are of increasing importance for destination competitiveness.
