Uncle Joe

A unique sense of humor, an intimidating softie, and one of the most caring guys I know. These are just a few traits that make my uncle Joe different from all the rest. When it comes to his sense of humor, I think of the ledge and the bear outside our car. When it comes to his appearance, you never see anyone else who looks like him; when you see him once, you never forget what he looks like. When it comes to his appearance, you would never think of his personality to be so caring. He is one of the greatest guys on the world and if you got to know him like I know him you would think the same thing. When it comes to Uncle Joe’s sense of humor, there is nothing that can match it. When he does something funny, he will always put a little smirk on his face and try not to smile and act like he is the cleverest guy in the world. When I was little, he would always take me to ‘the ledge’. This was a ledge over the dam in Sauk Prairie where he used to live. When he took me to this ledge he would sit me down and have my feet dangle over the edge. He would always act like he couldn’t hold on to me and I thought I was going to fall of the ledge. I would cry my eyes out and he would think it was just the funniest thing ever. Another torturous act my uncle Joe did to me when I was little was the bear outside the car. We would be driving along in the woods and he would drive real slow and ask me if I saw the bear outside. At the time I was scared of bears so my eyes would get all watery and I would scream and tell him to drive. One time when we were driving he grabbed a branch off a tree and threw it in the back window where I was sitting. He said the bear threw it in the car and again, I would cry my eyes out. He thought it was the funniest thing ever even though he scarred my childhood with those two acts. These are just two examples of how my uncle Joe has a unique sense of humor that sets him away from the rest. When one looks at uncle Joe, they may be intimidated by his 6’5” 240 pound stature. If not intimidated by that, one may be intimidated by his left hand which lacks 3 fingers. He likes to work with wood and he has cut three of his fingers off working with a table saw. He may be intimidating, but once you get to know him, he is the biggest softie in the world. He loves animals and loves to feed birds by putting bird feeders in his yard. He would never hurt a fly and he is nice to everyone. If you ever see my uncle Joe, don’t be intimidated, he is the biggest softie ever put on this earth and that makes him unique from everyone else. Not only is my uncle Joe funny or soft, he is also the most caring guy in the world. I have never seen anyone work as hard as this guy works to please one person or to spend a moment of happiness with his family; he wouldn’t even think about procrastinating for a second. Once you get to know uncle Joe, it is truly amazing how much this guy cares about his family and friends. He is a very amicable person. He would go out of his way for anyone at anytime to make someone happy. He is a great dad, a great uncle, and most importantly, a great friend. This trait really separates uncle Joe from all the other good people in the world. He is just an amazing person. I would trade nothing in the world for uncle Joe. When it comes to his sense of humor, his intimidation factor, how soft he really is, or just how much he cares for everyone, you will not find anyone close to my uncle. He is unique in so many ways and that is why I love him. He means the world to me and I love him to death. There is truly no one better than my uncle Joe and I am fortuitous to have him in my life.

...sitting around the picnic table doing what they do, and in the center of it all was a table and at the center of that table was me and my uncles; Rene, Joel, Henrique. We were just talking, in Spanish, about how full we were with the food and like an anonymous wind blew him in out of nowhere, a man stood in the middle of the party like a statue short on one side, tipsy, and one half of his shirt tucked in and bottle in hand, with glazed eyes he glared at us almost in a panorama. Looking like he was about to keel over he opened his, what I know now as a gaping hole of a mouth, the second he spoke nothing but hate flew from his mouth racial slurs came out targeted at everyone at the party even my youngest cousin got cursed at by this vulgar man. At the end of his tantrum he collapsed on the grass, at that moment I rushed to see who my racial attacker was and before me lying unconscious reeking of booze and other fluids was a white male with a beard, which looked like he never heard of a razor before. Clawing his way through the crowd of relatives my uncle Rene picked up the man on two his shoulder to a lone picnic table and set him down, he told us to get a cool bottle of water for the man, but of course we all refused, why would we want to help a man that so bluntly insulted our elders and our children for being something that they didn’t choose. My uncle insisted so I helped with the water and after a few minutes the man came to, almost vomiting on the...

...organizations by getting them drunk to get information out of them. The second ethical issue is that when Marry lost her job Albert lost a lot of money in high risk markets with his father’s friend’s portfolios. These men were old and that was most likely their retirement fund. Another HUGE ethical and I believe legal issue would be that Albert used his uncle to gain access to law offices and gather information of certain clients and businesses. Mary also used information from her father to help another company take over the one he worked for. Using this insider information is an issue. Legal issues that they face are the emails that marry forwarded with obscene messages and images that caused her to lose her job. As well as Al dealing with blackmail from Barry to give him the IPO information, or else he’ll report him for spinning. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each decision that albert could make or has made- Although Alberts and Mary’s use of insider trading made them a substantial amount of money and enhanced their portfolios; it was still illegal and they could both lose their jobs. The same goes for the use of his uncles keys to gain access to certain law offices. A disadvantage from marry forwarding emails would be that she lost her job. The disadvantage of Albert giving into Barry’s blackmail is that the boss could find out and they both lose their jobs. Although the disadvantage of not giving into the demands would be that he possibly loses his job as well. If...

Personal Narrative: Coyotes

...Now we're going to talk about calling coyotes in with an electric caller. The first thing that needs to happen is going out and buying a pretty expensive caller to use the cheaper ones do not work as well. Then we need to find a good spot to call them in at, the best luck I’ve had is sitting by some hay bails about 200 yards from a creek and staying very still. After we have found all of these hunting materials we need to get a gun. I use a 243 savage about any type of gun will work. I have put a little extra on my gun just to make it better. I have put a Bipod on it so when I’m sitting on the ground there is some way to balance it without it going everywhere. I have also put a scope on it just so I can see farther and get a better look at...

Plight of the Chicken

...Cynthia Howard ENC1101 Essay #2 - Narrative Essay Due Date: February 18, 2011 Username: CHoward4 The plight of the chicken Every time I see a white chicken, fond memories resonate through my mind about the special bond and relationship that I had as a five-year-old girl with my pet chicken. On that day, a lesson was learned about family values and pride. There are many events that have occurred throughout my life that have impacted me as an adult, and this event was one of those events. I can still remember the events that played out during that day, and I believe that I can hear the sounds of the chicken echoing through the woods when I go home for a visit. I was raised on a farm in Kings Mountain, North Carolina with my father, two brothers, and one sister. Although I had siblings to frolic in the woods with, and do fun activities like swim in the creek, or build tree houses, I still felt a need to have a pet for companionship. I spoke to my father about the possibility of getting a pet of my own, specifically a kitten, and he decided that I was too young to tend to the needs of a kitten. He did allow me to pick a chicken from his large coop located in the woods above the house as my pet. If I could prove to my father that I was able to keep up with the responsibilities of caring for the chicken, I may be allowed to get a kitten. This was a ritual that my father had with my older siblings with respect to their desire to have a pet. I remember spending an ample amount...

...the office and he challenged his co-worker. I can relate to this so much because I have a family full of athletes and we have been challenging each other for years in every category of sports. I want to say first off running a 5.77 is extremely slow at any age. But I can just imagine my family members (which are all guys) challenging me to a foot race and actually going outside and doing it. He said guys will take small challenges and that is extremely true. I and my family will argue about who is the best at video games because that just what guys do. But on the other hand I have a few uncles who would never waste their time to sit down and play a video game. Because that isn’t something that men usually do. He also mention that men are more serious than guys which is very true my uncle usually doesn’t talk but when he does he means business I would categorize my uncle as a man. But when he said that guys cheat I would have to disagree with him on that simply because I feel like I do all the things that he would consider a guys does but at the same time I have never cheated on my girlfriend. Another thing that he said that I would disagree with would probably be when he said guys like neat stuff I think that this could very easily fall into the men category as well. I do however think that he is correct when he says that guys don’t have a rigid moral code because I know some guys who I could trust my live with and on the other hand I know some guys who...

Movie Critique

...Movie Critic Hum/150 6/6/2016 The film I chose to critique this week is the classic family comedy Home Alone (1990) directed by Chris Columbus. Leading actors in this film is eight year old Kevin McCallister played by Macaulay Culkin, along with Peter McCallister, the father, played by John Heard, Mrs. McCallister played by Catherine O’Hara, Marv, who is the first burglar, played by Daniel Stern, and Harry, the other burglar played by Joe Pesci. Other characters in this film are Buzz the brother, mean Uncle Frank, and creepy old man Marley. The title of the film hints to the audience that someone is home alone, but the viewer does not know what happens in the story until watching the film, which makes it more interesting. This film is about a large family who gets together for a Christmas trip to Paris, but the night before they leave there is a wind storm, which knocks out all of the power, which means their alarm clock does not go off, and they sleep in. This puts them in a mad rush to get to the airport, in turn leaving Kevin behind, and the rest continue on to a fun family adventure. One part of a filmmaker’s goal among others is to create the right mood through a believable mise-en-scene; different settings that took place in Home Alone were McCallister’s home, the airport, inside the airplane, church, a grocery store, the tree house, and Santa exhibit. The two filming locations used in this film were in Chicago, Illinois, and in Paris, France...

First Eagle by Hillerman

...discussions of this novel could be to examine the ways in which Hillerman ignores, acknowledges, utilizes, or highlights particular elements of the cultural and economic contexts in the service of his plot, characterization, and themes. Characters Hillerman populates the novel with a rich cast of characters whom he reveals through their speech, their actions, and their thoughts. He also describes their physical appearance so that readers form specific and distinguishing images of them. Jim Chee is portrayed as a "traditional" Navajo who has studied to become a hatathali, a traditional singer who can conduct traditional curing rituals; he is also a universityeducated (University of Arizona) lawman as is his former supervisor, now retired, Joe Leaphorn (Arizona State University). The relationship between the two is complicated and thus interesting. Chee has worked with "the Legendary Lieutenant" in the past and respects him highly, but he is not yet completely comfortable with Leaphorn. However, in light of Leaphorn's new status as a private investigator, "just Mr. Leaphorn now" and Chee's as Acting Lieutenant in charge of the Tuba City office, they work on a more equal footing,...

Translate Poems Into 21st Century English

...FOLKTALES Assignment: Translate the poems into 21st century English In All God’s Chillen had Wings all the slaves had power if they simply just believed that they could fly. They didn’t understand that if all of them pulled together and had faith in the Old man that they could escape the Master, and the driver and all the beatings. I took from this faith and believing was important. In Big Talk it sounded more like what goes around comes around. I took it as both slaves were picking with each other and you should watch what you listen to and not be so gullible. In How to Write a Letter I interpreted this as no matter how educated you are don’t forget where you come from. In this story the daughter was able to go off to school and receive an education and when she came back home it seemed like she maybe forgot the little things that actually mattered in her upbringing like her father’s sounds that he wanted her to write I took it as don’t take anything for granted. Ah’ll Beatcher Makin Money in this story it just showed the greed in the master, how he was willing to sacrifice anything and everything to make money and greed placed him in a place where he didn’t want to be which was dead. Talk Too Much, Anyhow in this story the slave should've known better but the lesson in this story was that some things are just better left unsaid and don’t play with fire. The slave should have thought a little bit more about the consequences in case the frog didn’t speak in which he didn’t...

Media Advantage and Disadvantage

...Uncle Vanya Grown-up literature is kind of strange and sad, don't you think? Most characters within children's literature, from Tom Sawyer to Harry Potter, struggle against adversity, and ultimately find a sense of meaning and satisfaction in their lives. Most characters in "grown up" books and plays struggle against adversity, which is usually rooted in some psychologically complex inner conflict, and ultimately find that life has no meaning and no guarantee of satisfaction. At least, this seems to be the case with the stories and dramas in my big, thick Literature textbook. And it certainly seems to be the case when that Literature (with a capital L) is penned by a Russian. Such is the case with Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov. The play is filled with downtrodden fools, some ignorant, some self-aware; all are miserable because they have pursued the wrong goals. The Setting: Uncle Vanya takes place in a large estate tucked away in the Russian countryside. Possibly, the location was inspired by Chekhov's country home at the time the play was written. In the 1890s, hoping to improve his health and his connections with his fellow man, Chekhov moved his family to a small rural settlement called Melikhovo, located about forty miles south of Moscow. Much of the play finds its characters in conflict with their surroundings. The characters from the city find country life to be unbearably unsatisfying. The country-bred characters find that their city-bred counterparts are infectiously...

...the color of the skin they were automatically put in the lowest of the low. Authors Maya Angelou and Alice Walker claim that people in power oppress African Americans. Back then not many African Americans had power and were known to be oppressed by the superior kind. Firstly, Joel Chandler Harris takes away the slaves' Identity when he creates Uncle Remus. Joel Chandler states, " “He (Uncle Remus) was not an invention, of my own, but hymen syndicate, I might say, of three or four old darkies whom I know. I just walloped them together into one person and called him ‘Uncle Remus’”(27). Joel Chandler Harris treated the slaves like if they were prisoners in his jailhouse. The government gives a prisoner a new identity which is a number that they must go by while in jail so that it would be easier to keep track of them. Joel Chandler Harris simply gave them new names, names that he would remember because of the persons trait or how dark their skin was. From the moment he gave them the name, that was their new identity as long as they were under his ownership. That is why Chandler Harris takes away the slaves' Identity when he creates Uncle Remus. Conflict Managemebt

...Must Read: The Underlying Principle behind the Proposal and Presentation A proposal serves the purpose of selling an audience on something. It attempts to sway a group of people to your way of thinking. A proposal is not a term paper or a study strict. It’s supported by studies but isn’t a study in itself. It has to be structured in such a way that the reader can easily read and quickly process the information. Oftentimes the proposal is accompanied with a presentation. So, the reader will have to do double-time when it comes to information processing. Let me share with you a recent presentation horror story: A company salesperson came to my organization trying to persuade us to buy the product they were pitching. The product was a fairly good product but the pitch was horrible. The proposal was written like a study. The font was much too small and the line spacing was much too close. Additionally, the slide presentation had no pictures to set the mood and the presenter read from the slides… boring! This happens much too often. The "A" Paper example is a good proposal structure that has been used in business by me and other instructors that are business veterans. Please print out the example and follow its basic format. If you have problems creating text boxes or proper alignments please get assistance from the library staff or a friend. Changes here and there are OK. The presentation should contain between 8 to 12 slides and to be accompanied by a one-page executive briefing...

Analysis of Serebryakov in Uncle Vanya

...Professor is selfish because he has become extremely dependent on others due to his old age. He requires a lot from those around him and gives nothing back. Simply he is a burden as demonstrated in his own words to Elena “You are quite right, of course. I am not an idiot; I can understand you. You are young and healthy and beautiful, and longing for life, and I am an old dotard, almost a dead man already. Don't I know it? Of course I see that it is foolish for me to live so long, but wait! I shall soon set you all free. My life cannot drag on much longer. (Chekhov)” This does not only apply to Elena but also to Sonya and Vanya. Throughout the years, they looked after the Estate and contributed to the wellbeing of the Professor for nothing. Uncle Vayna said it perfectly “For twenty-five years I have managed this place, and have sent you the returns from it like the most honest of servants, and you have never given me one single word of thanks for my work, not one--neither in my youth nor...
