Unit 1. Assignment 1. Home Computer Analysis

...Fortunately my home computer is already running Windows 7 ultimate x64 edition so there isn’t anything for me to upgrade to yet, unless windows 8 gets released soon but even then I won’t probably upgrade. My computer is home built and has an Intel E8400 3.0 Gig Dual Core processor with 4 gigs of DDR3 and 2 Terabytes of hard drive space. I’m also running an NVidia GTX 560 TI overclocked video card and hooked up to a 50 Mbps cable modem. I built this computer a few years ago and I built it for gaming so it’s not top of the line anymore but more than supports any operating system you can throw at it. Let’s suppose I had windows 7 Home Premium and wished to upgrade. Luckily my computer can easily support any version of windows 7 so all I would have to do is run the Windows Anytime Upgrade and upgrade to which version I wished. Since each version is a superset of the higher version you can easily upgrade to higher versions. Also since windows 7 places the entire OS on the hard disk it isn’t an upgrade in the traditional since, it’s just a matter of activating features that are already there. If I had a 32 bit version and wished to go to a 64 bit version I wouldn’t however be able to do an anytime upgrade. When your going from different bit versions you need to do a clean install to install the whole 32 or 64 bit version. This is the only time I would need to do a clean install, if I wanted to go back to x32 for some strange reason. Doing this of course would limit the amount of......

An author wouldn’t need very much in the way of power or storage. A cheap all-in-one computer or basic laptop would be fine for their needs. When it comes to video game developers, they need computers with lots of space and lots of power along with a high end video card. They will most likely have ordered a custom built computer with terabytes of space and the newest high end processor. CAD operators also need lots of space and power for the work they do. A computer with a terabyte of space and a high end processor along with six to eight gigabytes of RAM should be fine. References Newegg.com. Retrieved......

If he uses a computer that is short on the needed speed than he could miss out on a good trading price for oil, electricity, or nuclear fuels. For this job 4 GB of RAM and at least 1 GB of hard drive will suffice just fine. But for up to the second price change you will most likely want a processor speed of 3 Ghz. So for this job you want the Ghz of the Erazer but only need the hard drive and RAM of the Slimline. So I would go with a model type that would have those specifications. Which isn't in the above table. Graphic designer: Graphic design integrates computers in virtually every step of the design process from conception to production and in a range of media including print, video, and web. For graphic design 8 GB or more of RAM is preferred and 750 GB of hard drive capacity. Processor speed is not as important as it...

Computer | Hard Drive | Processor Speed | RAM | Price | Lenovo - 15.6" Laptop | 500 GB | 2 GHz | 6 GB | $329.99 | Panasonic - Toughbook 53 | 500 GB | 2.7 GHz | 4 GB | $1,582.99 | Asus – Desktop Model: G20AJ-B09 | 2 TB | 3.6 GHz | 16 GB | $1,299.99 | Acer - Aspire TC Series Desktop | 1 TB | 3.1 GHz | 8 GB | $593.99 | (www.bestbuy.com) With the computers selected the 3 professions that I think could use these computers are Cable Technician, Accountant, and a Graphics Designer. For the Cable Technician the computer I chose for that profession would be the Panasonic Toughbook 53. This computer is tough enough to be put in the field. With having to take it into customer’s homes if it were to be dropped it could withstand the impact. With the size of hard drive, RAM, and speed it could run programs to access customer info and company records. For the Accountant I chose the Acer Aspire TC Series. With RAM, and speed of this computer an accountant could run programs to calculate figures for his or her clients. The hard drive is sufficient to be able to store a lot of spreadsheets and graphs. For the Graphic Designer I chose the Asus G20AJ-B09. With the amount of information, size of programs, and the data used for this profession this computer has......

A recommendation for a student going to college based on the above table would be the ASUS notebook. I would recommend this based on a number of things. The first and foremost being the low price point for a notebook. I recommend a notebook over a desktop for a student because of its mobility. A student could take it to the library, to class, to study partners’ homes, coffee shops, etc. For the price a student would get all the necessary functionality out of it. The storage space is on the lower side. However 500GB is plenty of space to store Microsoft Office documents, including PowerPoint presentations, through the lifetime of his or her college career.
