The NMC code of conduct is an initiative that was set out so that all members of staff knew what their expectancies were within the health service. The Code contains the professional standards that registered nurses and midwives are expected to uphold throughout their career. UK nurses and midwives must always act in line with the Code, whether they are providing direct care to individuals, groups or communities or bringing their professional knowledge to light on nursing and midwifery practice in other roles, like education, leadership or research. While the values and principles set out in the Code can be interpreted in a range of different practice settings, they are not negotiable or discretionary.
Within many of the sections, the codes of practice, link in well within equality and diversity within health and social care.
Section 1, 1.1 working in person centred ways and using this as the basis for social care and support, this is positive as it is focusing on how health and social care workers should do to ensure that the service user is being provided the right support for their situation.
Section 2, 2.1 being honest and trustworthy, this is a major positive in equality and diversity as it means care staff are able to make every individual trust them and not just try and earn the trust of certain people discriminating against others by not caring whether or not their patient trusts them or not. Being honest with your service users is vital and a very positive attribute to have.
Section 3, 3.7 using relevant processes and procedures to challenge and report dangerous, abusive, discriminatory and exploitative behaviour and practice, this is a very positive part of the code as it is saying that when discrimination is happening then the care workers should be educated enough to be able to see when a service user isn’t being treated equally and recognises that

...Unit 2 Task 2 P4: National initiative promotes and supports activities that are in the country. National initiatives have responsibilities, such as being able to represent the needs of the health and social care systems. These are important because it makes sure each individual is treated equally no matter what their race, gender, age, culture and any other statues there may be. The Human Right Act 1998 The human rights act came in to place in the UK in 2000. This act covers all of the human rights. It also makes sure that all individuals can take legal action against another individual that has been disrespectful against their human rights. Some of the human rights are: * Right to life * Right to freedom * Right to fair trail * Right to marry and start a family * Right to education The human rights act promotes anti-discriminatory practice by an individual to use their human rights against another individual. For example, an individual can take another individual to court that individual could be a doctor because they may have broken doctor- patient confidentiality and this is disrespecting an individual’s human rights. Mental Health Act 1983 The mental health act was put in place in the UK in 1983. This helps to secure the care of a mentally disordered individual.
