Unit 5 Assignment

There are 2 parts to this Assignment:

PART 1: Comparing Growth Rates

First, prepare yourself for the Assignment by reading the following three articles or webpages:

Professor Dave Alber’s Lecture can be found in the Doc Sharing area of the course.

Abler, D. (n.d.) Notes for a Lecture on Economic conditions in developing countries. Copyright permission granted September 25, 2010.
Khan’s (2001) article by going to the International Monetary Fund Website (see the Webliography).

Khan, M. H. (2001). Rural poverty in developing countries: Implications for public policy. Economic Issues NO. 26. International Monetary Fund. Retrieved July 6, 2012.
You can find the most up-to-date report on the World Bank website. (See Webliography).

The World Bank Group. (2012). Prospects for the Global Economy. Washington D.C.

After you have read the items listed above, access the “Data & Research” tab in the World Bank Website and compare growth rates between two countries of your choice. Specifically, select one developed country (such as U.S., England, Canada, Germany, etc.), and select one developing country (such as Angola, Bangladesh, Chad, Nigeria, etc.).
Find and transfer their 2007–2011 GDP growth (annual %) data into your Assignment. Identify and explain possible factors that may be adding to the differences between their GDP growth rates.

countries | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | United states | 2% | 0% | -3% | 2% | 2% | 2% | Sudan | 12% | 3% | 3% | 3% | -3% | -12% | The two countries that I have chosen are the United States and Sudan. From the year 2007 to 2011 the United States has had more of a steady incline in regards to annual percentage growth for the GDP.
This happens because of the quality of life that we have. Our people are more educated the standard of living is higher. We have better technology and better ways to produce more goods efficiently. On the other hand a developing country such as Sudan you will see the GDP fluctuate instead of being steady. The graph shows as much as a 12% increase in one year and a 12% decrease 6 years later. Not having the means to produce cost countries like this because they do not have the proper education for the children, they have less income for their families, and they do not also have enough technology to create a better life.

PART 2: Loanable Funds Market

Answer questions 1a and 1b:

1. Analyze each of the following changes in the market for loanable funds. Explain what happens to private savings, private investment spending, and the rate of interest if the following events occur. Assume the economy is closed (no transactions are made with foreign countries).

a. The government reduces the size of its deficit to zero.

Spend will go up if this happens because the interest rates go down and the available funds are in abundance.

b. At any given interest rate, consumers decide to save more. Assume the budget balance is zero. If this happens then the it would be less spending.

...Unit 5 Discussions Assignment Comparison between an article and short news story After reading both texts the first aspect that struck me about the story was the difference in viewpoint. While the news story focused on the initial event and implications the news story went into more detail regarding the moment. This is certainly an important aspect of the story. The article, which it is significant to highlight is from a sports perspective, looked at a wider context. This instead, discussed other events of a similar nature such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and how that also made an impact at the time. I found the shorter story instead to focus on the point of view of one person and how the events of 9/11...

Unit 5 Assignment

...What questions do you have about the overarching Unit 5 assignment? Although not due until the end of the class, it is important that you begin planning for this project early in the course. What are your initial thoughts about how you will approach this assignment? Explain. Clarification of the term “CEO’s and presidents”, would any leaders be covered under this term or just corporate leaders? Must the “CEO’s or presidents” all be from present time or could they be from the past-example Steve Jobs, John F Kennedy and Henry Ford as long as the requirements are met? My approach to this assignment is to figure out which 3 “CEO or president” I would enjoy writing about and spend time researching one leader each week so that I would have enough information to fulfill the expectation of the paper. If all goes as planned, by the 5th week I would have the research done and just need to put all the information together making sure I have all the required topic covered for each leader. By doing the research weekly I can ask questions as they arise instead of waiting until the last week and finding out I’m unclear about something. How do cross-cultural differences affect the use of or response to power in organizations?...

...Current Events-Unit 5 Assignment Amelia Smith MT340-01 Conflict Resolution and Team Dynamics Kaplan University May 22, 2012 After doing some research on the internet I came across an article from the Los Angeles Times Business section, regarding a sexual harassment suit. In 2007 the EEOC filed suit against ABM Industries, Inc. alleging conduct that was in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibiting sexual harassment and gender discrimination within the workplace (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2010, para. 3). The conduct that reportedly took place was one employee being raped by a supervisor, indecent exposure, groping, asking for sex and trading sex for promotions. Sexual harassment is not about sexual gratification but about power. The definition of power is defined as the ability to influence the behavior of others with or without resistance. When speaking of power a lot of people will confuse it with leadership. Even though the two are closely related they are not the same. Power does not have the same goal compatibility that being a leader does and leadership is concerned with the influence it has on its followers and power is not. In the case of sexual harassment within ABM, supervisors with power abused their positions over subordinates. Supervisors have formal power over employees; they are responsible for giving them their assignments, reviewing their performance, promotions, salary adjustments, and even...

...nasopharyngeal sample was tested for Influenza using PCR. According to the diary cards, targeted N95 group had the highest rate of self-reported adherence to intervention as 82% said they wore an N95 respirator while performing high-risk procedures. The group that wore N95 continuously had the lowest compliance as only 57% kept the respirator on at all shift. The surgical mask group self-reported compliance rate was in the middle with 66% adhering to wearing a surgical mask the entire shift. Primary endpoints were analyzed by intention to treat. Cluster-adjusted Chi square tests were appropriately used to compare the event rate for the primary outcomes in each arm. Sample-size calculation was done prior to the study. To obtain 80% power at two–sided 5% significant level for detecting a significant difference of attack rate between the three intervention arms. The attack rate was assumed to be 3.9% in the N95 arm and 9.2% in the continuous medical mask arm. A sample size of 559 participants per arm (23 clusters) was needed, however the number of each arm was smaller. CRI rate was highest in the medical mask arm (98 of 572; 17%), followed by the targeted N95 arm (61 of 516; 11.8%), and the full-time N95 arm (42 of 581; 7.2%) (P < 0.05). The rates of confirmed viral infections were all below 4% and didn't differ significantly between study arms. After adjusting for confounders, only continuous use of N95 remained significant against CRI and bacterial colonization, and for just CRI...

...4.3.1. Statistical Result of Scenario One: The iPhone is misplaced and needs to be located This was the scenario where the user had misplaced the device at home location and hence the iPhone was needed to be located. The conditions were that the iPhone was at home location but was misplaced and needed to be located. There are now two conditions in the scenario: the iPhone is online and the iPhone is offline. The success rate of the results for this scenario is computed in the following table of statistical result: The iPhone in the offline mode did not seem to respond efficiently when the network was completely available. Out of ten test attempts, five test attempts were a failure. The preceding table explains the same. The iPhone is not efficiently responding when the mobile data connection is not stable in availability. The offline requests made were not successful in reaching the device. Some tests failed by delay in time while some requests din not reach the iPhone at all. 4.3.2. Statistical Result of Scenario Two: The iPhone is lost and needs to be located (not tracking) This was the scenario where the user had lost the device (assumed) at some location, say X, and the user needed to locate the iPhone. Unit 5 Assignment 2

...An issue in today’s world is the environment. There is dispute over what we should do about it. One issue in the environment is global warming. Global warming has become a problem around the world; it is caused by CO2 emissions and other gases in the atmosphere that cause the sun’s thermal energy to be absorbed, otherwise known as the greenhouse effect. Studies have shown that at least 20% of ice on Earth has melted since 1979. Although it may not sound so bad, every year we deplete the natural ice on Earth by using CO2-emitting machines such as vehicles, factories, and other heavy machinery. The depleting may accelerate until all naturally-made ice caps and glaciers are gone. Ocean levels will rise sky-high from the melted ice. Global warming is also causing change in both wind and ocean currents. The ocean currents have changed so dramatically scientists believe anymore change may cause catastrophic waves, not to mention the change in the flow of things. The wind’s change in direction may cause high-speed winds, and horrendous tornadoes. A mixture of the two would cause weather worse than Hurricane Katrina. Despite disagreements on this subject, studies have shown that this could possibly happen if we keep going the way we are. Of course, in 1972, scientists were afraid another ice age would happen because the temperature was going down half a degree between 1945 and 1968. Then, the temperature started rising. This shows that it may or may not happen. But from...

...I was a member of Adam Team during the Unit Five assignment. The communication among the team members were very limited, we had one conference call throughout this assignment (Miller & More, 2011). The two important factors that define a group are interaction and influence (Miller & More, 2011). Carla volunteered to lead the Adam Team, but as a leader Carla did not create an action plan for the group; therefore, it is my opinion that our group was not effective (Miller & More, 2011). In reading Chapter 6 of the text the author stated that the leader must be actively involved with the group in order for the group to be effective and successful (Miller & More, 2011). There should have been collaboration on ideas for a community policing program, a clear understanding of which slides each member will be responsible for, and a plan of action for how the members will interact from the very beginning. Carla asked the group which will be better to assign roles or we can volunteer, unfortunately only two responded me and Stacy. It took me sending out an e-mail to all members requesting those who were sitting back to step up and choose a section to complete or get voted out, in order to get the ball rolling....

The “for” Loops This type of loop lets the programmer to execute a certain part of code a certain number of times. The number of times the loop is to be executed is always specified inside the loop.
