Unit 5. Assignment 1: Cabling Factors and Tools Discussion

Three factors that need to be considered is being fire protected, water proof, and shock protection. Being fire protected, just in case a fire occurs, the wiring would be protected by a casing around the actual wires which in cause wouldn’t melt the casing and destroy the wires. Since the data room is usually in the basement of companies, if a flood occurs, there are wires that are protected by a casing that would not let water intrude into the casing. For shock protection, there is always a chance for a shortage to happen. Wiring and a lot of electricity used. For example, if there is a storm going on and lightning hits a generator and shorts everything out, it would not fry the wiring if they are protected from the shock. The two most important considerations to take into account when either pre-wiring a house or wiring after the house is complete, are the routing of the cable and the quality of the wire used. These two points are often overlooked and the decision to wire the house at all often comes as an afterthought, when most if not all of the interior of the structure has been completed. Some tools that would be useful to use are cable cutters, hole cutting tools, wire strippers, punch down tools, RJ45 connector crimp kits, pliers and cutters, label makers and electrical tape. The makeshift tool that we would use is a staple gun.

Unit 5 Assignment 1 Cabling Factors and Tolls Discussion

...Unit 5 Assignment 1 Cabling Factors and Tolls Discussion Flexibility What type of install is the cable going into? Is everything in a fixed position? If you have an install where items are moved around without being disconnected, using highly flexible cable is necessary. Cables in these scenarios need to be flexible to meet those demands of mobility, and also for the life of the wire so that it does not crack, break, fray or short. We had a job at a university where we moved flat panels on a track system to create different screen sizes, and for that we had to make sure the cable would meet the demand. Capacitance Cat 6 is not always better than Cat 5. If a video extender is made for Cat 5e, using Cat 6 may cause you a problem. The electrical properties are different, and the circuitry inside may not be able to reconcile the increased capacitance. You should confirm with the manufacturer before making a substitute in a Category cable. Jacket What type of jacket does your cable need? You have plenum, riser, PVC/non-plenum and direct burial. Plenum cable is often required in commercial work, especially in buildings where there are open-air returns; it is essential to meeting code. Integrators will often use riser grade at the riser, and then transfer to plenum in the plenum space. This saves some cost, but I recommend you second-guess saving that few cents per foot in most cases. The chances of mixing up a box of cable and pulling riser in the plenum space may increase...

Structured Cabling Homework 1

...Structured Cabling Unit 1 Homework Exercise 1.1 Master it 1. What industry standards body and standards series numbers do you need to reference for Ethernet applications and cabling? A: The IEEE is used as the standard for Ethernet applications and cabling. It is part of the 802.3 series of standards and includes applications such as 1000Base-T, 1000Base-SX, 10GBase-T, and 10GBase-SR. 2. What are the different types of category 6 cables and what should be recommended for this network? A: There are two types of category 6 cables, Cat-6 and Cat-6a I would recommend a Cat-6a for this network since its intended use is for 10 Gigabit Ethernet with a 500MHz bandwidth support. 3. What cable would you recommend to offer the best shielding performance? A: I would recommend a Cat-6a (STP Cable) for this project. My recommendation is based on this cables capability to protect the network from EMI and to operate at 10Base-T. 4. What type of cable would you use for the horizontal spaces and vertical links? A: As for the horizontal spaces, riser-rated cabling is more durable. However, for this project I would recommend a plenum cabling system to prevent toxic fumes if caught on fire. The client is planning to route the cable thought the same space used for air circulation and HVAC. For the Vertical links, I would recommend implementing a rise-related cabling to avoid fore to be spread between floors. “Plenum rated cables can be used in the riser, BUT riser cables cannot be...

Will the current horizontal cabling suffice for the new network? If it will not, what type of cable should be used for the horizontal cabling? Provide detailed specifications for this cable. (10 points) No, this is CM rated cable, which may not be installed in the plenum space. CMP rated cable is needed. The new cable should be solid copper, 24 AWG, 100 balanced twisted-pair (UTP) Category 5e cables with four individually twisted-pairs, which meet or exceed the mechanical and transmission performance specifications in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-C.2 up to 100 MHz for installation in a plenum space; or solid copper, 22 AWG to 24 AWG, 100 balanced twisted-pair (UTP) Category 6 cables with four individually twisted-pairs, which meet or exceed the mechanical and transmission performance specifications in ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-C.2 up to 250 MHz for installation in a plenum space. 3. Cableing Factors

...Three factors needing to be considered for performing a cable installation are nature of material, voltage level and current carrying capacity. Also fire protection. The support system for cabling and equipment is a vital component of a properly designed data-communications system. The acceptance and use of the eia/tia-569 Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunications Pathways and Spaces by architects and engineers has proven the importance of a carefully designed and maintained cable-support system. There are six major types of cable supports: cable runway, center-rail systems, cable tray, wire basket, bridle rings or cable hooks, and wireway. Each is designed for specific purposes. One of the most important yet overlooked aspects of a network designer`s job is the specification of a cable-support system. Specifying the requirements of the design can be a difficult process. It may be helpful to consider six key areas when specifying a cable-support system: •load capacity •grounding requirements •materials •amount of mechanical protection required •finishes •plenum requirements Load capacity The maximum cable load allowed on the system is called the load capacity. Span (the distance between supports) and load (the maximum cable weight) dictate the load capacity of a cable-support system. Different standards may use different terms when referring to load capacity but it all boils down to span and cable weight. Although load capacity can be measured in various ways,...

This document will detail the business case for the implementation of a wireless network in each one of United Bank’s 500 branches in order to meet the business requirement above Background United Bank has a footprint of 500 branches spread across all provinces in South Africa. The branches are connected via a MPLS network to a central head office data center in Johannesburg which hosts the banks core banking applications. The banking applications are used by branch personnel to perform various banking service to clients. Clients have to queue at tellers in order to be services and queues are often lengthy resulting in unhappy clients and poor service response times. In order to alleviate this problem and provide an improved customer service the bank has developed an application call iHelp...

Research Management

...Tech.(Power Systems),Gurgaon, India E-mail: pkgoyal1983@gmail.com Abstract In the electrical power distribution and transmission system for urban and rural area, overhead lines are usually in major practice. Underground system was not favourable in developing and under developed countries. The main reason behind it was the much higher capital investment of underground cabling with respect to overhead bare conductors. But with the advancement in technology and market competition its cost is manageable for urban areas. This system requires more skills and planning for installation, jointing and termination rather than overhead lines. The presented paper is applied on power distribution system up to 33 KV. Keywords: LT/HT power cables, Installation, Jointing, Termination, Testing. 1. Introduction The fist step for the cabling system is selection of cable sizes. Voltage drop is the considerable factor for the selection of LT cables but in case of HT cable selection depend on short circuit current and current carrying capacity. After selection of cable there will be an inspection visit at manufacturing unit before dispatch. There will be numerous testing on cables to ensues the acceptibity as per electrical standards and site requirements. Essential testes are listed as below:Tensile test ( for Aluminium conductor) Wrapping test ( for aluminium conductor) Annealing test ( for copper conductor) Thickness of insulation and sheath High voltage testing Insulation resistance...
