Properties and typical application of a solid electrical conductor

Copper

Introduction: There are many good solid electrical conductors. Namely one main good solid electrical conductor is copper. As a technician (referring to the scenario given) I advise the use of copper as a solid electrical conductor and the reason will be explained below.

What resistivity tells you is how resistive a material is. The symbol that is used to represent resistivity is p and the units that are in ohm meters. Copper has a very low resistivity the value of the resistivity of is. It is slightly this is because there is nothing next to copper in the resistance of the cubic meter, so the lower the resistance the higher the conductivity of electricity of the material will be. So overall since the resistivity of copper is very low it means it is a very good conductor.
Tensile strength of copper: Tensile strength ‘is the maximum pressure or stress a material can take when stretched or pulled before it breaks or falls’. The tensile strength of copper is pretty high it stands at 128 GPA (gig pascals). 128Gpa is very high and it means copper stands in the upper end range of tensile strength and by copper having a high tensile strength it also means its ductile meaning you can shape it and pull it in many ways and it will not …show more content…
When it comes to stiffness copper is very stiff. The rigidity or stiffness of copper is 45 Gpa which high meaning you cannot easily break.
Water

Conductivity: water is also a conductor of electricity. However it doesn’t always conduct, because there a only some ions present however it will not be enough to conduct electricity. In order for water to conduct electricity the current must be high, for water to conduct electricity water must have electrolyte present so the ions can allow current to flow. Salt and sodium chloride are good electrolytes that make water a better conductor. Water that we have in our taps have some ions however it will only conduct a very slight amount of electricity. Therefore we have to look at using electrolytes.

Resistivity
Resistivity of water is 18.2 MΩ•cm. Waters resistivity is decided by the amount of salt dissolved in water. If the amount of salt dissolved in water is high then the resistivity will be low. Resistivity is a ‘measure of the ability of water to resist an electrical
