To Think About

1) In UPS's package tracking system, the input consists of customers' package label date and UPS' computer centers process the label date to create the most efficient delivery route for each driver. The output includes the shipping instructions, customer's satisfaction of the service. 2) UPS company use computer hardware technology for input, processing and output activities in their tracking system, and computer centers of UPS use networking and telecommunication technology to record the date base of every package through the scannable bar-coded label. Both customers and computer centers use Internet and the World Wide Web check the status of their package. 3)UPS company designed the scannable bar-code label in order to check the packages’' status, and computer centers are able to make the most efficient delivery route for each driver according to this label, thereby saving 28 million miles and 3 million fuel each year by using information system. Imagine that if these system were not existed, UPS company would spend a large amount of more money just on the fuel each year, and in this case, the price of the UPS service would increase, eventually customers may consider to choose some other company's services instead of using UPS because of the high expense.

1)UPS Web site provides a lot of convenient services for individuals, small business, and large business. For example, people can make the shipment on-line and pay the invoice through Internet which is called paperless invoice; they can also track the status of their package through UPS Web site, and people even can use their new technology called Mobile Solutions, which means that you can check your package at anywhere at any time.
